Getting a roomette is a very smart move, as I've traveled from Tampa to NYC in coach along with Tampa to Ft Lauderdale many times. It is more private in a roomette and you don't have to deal with people coughing and sneezing and small children screaming all the time ! I had a child behind me in coach and they kept kicking the seatback and after about 5 minutes I stood up and asked the parent if they could control the child. All in all Amtrak is a wonderful way to travel and I would only have a roomette or bedroom in the future as it makes the trip much more relaxing and quiet. Plus you have your meals free and a bed if you want to rest, as the coach seats are ok but its very hard to sleep in one or get any real rest. Great you had a nice trip !!

Very pleasant video. I think the roomette would be fine for two people even on a long trip as one always has the option of getting up to walk around or simply lie down when tired. One important point... driving is not as cheap as gas cost to and fro. One needs to consider depreciation on the vehicle for the milage plus servicing costs as driving will bring one closer to a dreaded major servicing. Also... there is the possibility of the expense in fines and insurance cost if one might get caught speeding not to mention the risk and cost of accident, theft or break in.

I went with roomettes when I was young. Now that I'm older, and I've had more time to save money, I like the bedroom. When I was in grad school I made one 24 hour (or so) trip in coach because I was on a tight budget. Thanks for the good video and the positive attitude. If you ever go on a trip with Traditional Dining, the food is a lot better.

Also tickets are usually cheaper if you order them ahead of time, and tickets are cheaper in some seasons (usually winter) than others. I'm not sure how the seasonal pricing works in Florida.

I booked the same car, but room #1 from New York City to DeLand, Florida in October. I have ridden in Amtrak roomettes before, and they are okay. Nice video, thanks!

Thank you for doing this. This helps me decide on roomette vs coach on the first section of my trip from ATL to DC. First train ride.

What was your favorite meal on the train. Also if I may ask how many hours of sleep did you get on the train?

This was very nice, I have the selection of the same train type/route (silver meteor 97) from Newark to Orlando, I will be taking my car and this is also supposed to accommodate that, I originally wanted to drive the 14-15 hours myself but was factoring in the cost of a hotel+food+gas+labor+wear and tear on the vehicle and for $820 which is the price offered it is not a bad deal at all. I don't think I can justify their most expensive selection which is the full room (curious to see how that looks) but it is around $1800. thanks again man!
