This popular rat run cuts across from the Bath Road to the Wells Road via Keynsham, avoiding at least 3 major bottlenecks. The route suggested by Google includes a single-track road and has resulted in major chaos. However, the contractors got the work completed two weeks ahead of schedule 👍

They did a good job, by the looks of it... 'The road has resurfaced'
Quite a few off shoot roads along there, wonder what they did for residential access.

To quote the road closure notice "Access for residents within the road closures will be maintained whenever possible as site operations allow, with access controlled by on-site traffic marshals." All those roads that look like they might be alternatives are single track roads, so when you got the work time rush they just jammed solid. The "official" alternative route was basically back on the major roads that people would be trying to avoid because they are major bottlenecks. Worst case scenario would be somebody living on the new estate (part of the cause of the traffic problem) having to turn right instead of left as they exit their road, and drive a 7 mile diversion through the worst traffic commuter route, compared to their normal 1.5 mile country road avoiding all the traffic.

@@GrandadsOtherChannel Our road into the local town is fairly similar, for distance, winding with 2 lanes, bush lined. Only about 10 cars per hour though! If it was closed for work people would probably drive their 4x4 trucks across the fields lol
