I was a marksman in my conscript time in Slovakia with standard SVDN-1. Couple of experiences: 1. recoil hurts, you better press it to the shoulder 2 sniper bullets were expensive so we used Warsaw treaty machine gun bullets 7,62x54, ok for up to 400m - could pierce scaffolding iron pipe on that distance 3.Original optic was good and one could use iron sights without removing the optics 4 it had bayonett so the use was more marksman than sniper 5 trigger group spring could get bent when one pulled the bolt back while on safety - IMO design flaw - happened to me. 6 And yes I was the coolest looking guy on every picture :-)
SVD recoil doesn't hurt, the Tigr does.

@@fuery. Fella you have never shot a gun and you're telling a real man what hits and what doesn't
And we're still using LPS ammo for SVD....
What a cool story! Thank you so much!
There's a funny anecdote about the bayonets on SVDs. During sniper training, if the recruit didn't hit the target with his first shot, he had to affix the bayonet, crawl to the target and stab it.
Military has really genial solutions to different problems. There's a running joke in my country among men that had compulsory military training that if you had a cough they would cure it with laxatives - you'd be afraid to cough lol, solved.
Did you hit the target first shot?
lmaoooooo
This is not an anecdote. As you know, he who served in the (Russian) army does not laugh at the circus.
I’ve never heard of “affix” bayonets, I always just heard “fix” but affix makes more sense.
Beautiful just like the SVD

" Its my obsession to make the perfect weapon "
Scott what are you doing here hahaha. "Me looking at my RealSword SVD" nevermind Scott I know why
and unlike the A&K one this one works
The Soviets did in fact manufacture various types of 7.62x54R ammo with special uses in mind. There were variants meant for accurate shooting and armour piercing, unlike the majority of ammo that was for general purpose use in PKMs etc.
There is good ammo for it, yes. And they even removed the bayonet lugs on some later models of it because frankly you don't need it. It doesn't really improve the accuracy *that* much. Noticably, yes. But even the Soviets were under no illusions as to the limits of its ability. the SVD, despite translating literally as sniper... is not one.
@@selonianth IIRC there are other Soviet/Russian precision rifles chambered in the round that perform better than the SVD.
@@Waldemarvonanhalt Correct. Because the SVD is not a sniper rifle. It's a Marksman's rifle.
SNB is that ammo
Its the Russians. Countries like Ukraine, Romania, Latvia or Bulgaria had nothing to do with the weapon. Give credit where credit is due.

China even copied Flanker. However, not all of it. The great Chinese Xerox stumbled on AL-31F engines.
Glad some one else caught that lol
Bayonet is for practice reasons. Marksman, when missed his target, should crawl to it, hit it with the bayonet, then crawl back.
It can use iron sights without removing the optics since it is on the side rail and elevated a bit to the side.
Dunno if that’s true, but it sounds really damn likely. We had the same thing in boot but only at 100m range max (regular infantry)

Looks a lot like the Chinese type 81, but in 7.62x54 instead of 7.62x39. It's also a short stroke gas system like the SKS, with an AK style rotating bolt and a last round hold open. AK mags can be modified to work in them, but the bolt will no longer stay open after the last round. Oddly enough, here in Canada AK's have been prohibited for decades, but we can get some other cool stuff, at least for now.

I think an SVT-40 video would be great. I happen to have one that I purchased in 1994 at a gun show for $300. I know a lot of people out there don't even know this rifle exists and a lot only have seen it in video games. When I bought mine there were several on the table. I chose the one with a different muzzle break. Many years later I did some research on it and found that it was originally an AVT-40 select fire. The AVT's were built to ease a machine gun shortage but they couldn't take the sustained automatic fire, so when they broke they were rebuilt and put into SVT-40 configuration. I read that only 3500 were imported, so that makes them pretty rare.
Holy hell, you make me jealous. I would love to have an SVT-40

When you said that they are chambered in a few different rounds and mentioned the 7.62 NATO/.308 my heart sank. Then you said you were an actual man and got the 7.62-54r, I actually giggled. A very manly giggle, but it brought back some forgotten memories of mine, but someone decided they needed it more than I did and I miss her soo much.
The bayonet charge was reminiscent of the Mosin Nagant M91 with fitted bayonet, and how ungodly unwieldy and absolutely muzzle heavy it suddenly became, with just the addition of her standard 1.5 foot long hole punch.
This is my favorite sniper rifle of all time. I love sniper rifles in general. As a hunter in general they are the best weapons for hunting. But from video games to real life use to general accuracy, this is one of my favorite firearms of all time. And my #1 favorite sniper rifle ever.
Person: "Isn't that rifle a bit too long for a DMR role? Seems like navigating to a firing position would be difficult."
Russian: "Nyet. Use grenade to make hallways and alleys bigger. Problem solved."
"What grenades comrade? Explosive rounds! When enemy behind cover, you shoot, and no enemy and no cover. Very Effective!"
I read that Russian response w a Russian accent in my head lol
You guys would probably get a heart attack if you saw Mosin then. Not to mention apparently you have no idea that military uses either SVDS(collapsible stock) or SVU(bullpup version) since the same time when purpose build DMRs became a thing in NATO(hello there, SR-25).
However apparently someone believes that mounting scope onto M14 made it a DMR when M21 was half assed into existence:D
P.S.: and that is primarily because US didn't realize that snipers are "kind of needed" even in modern war until the late half of Vietnam War. Meanwhile soviets had thousands of renowned snipers during WWII and just decided that continuing to use what worked was a good idea. _Surprising, right?!_

Seriously this meme is stupid, overused and no longer funny. Whoever came up with it never saw an AK.
@@honzabalak3462 nah mate you just spend too much time on internet this meme is barely ever use even on brandon sub reddit.
Also even the ak guy himself thought it funny.
@@honzabalak3462 to be fair they share most of the ergonomics and can sometimes use ak furniture.
Looks like an AK? Walks like an AK? Talks like an AK?
It’s an AK
@@sovietrussia3632 however they have an entirely different receiver, dust cover, chambering, bolt carrier and operating mechanism, and it wasn’t even designed by the same guy
I still love the svd tho
I’m just glad Brandon can share the fruits of his crippling Gun Broker addiction with the rest of us ✊🏻
Definitely one of the most beautiful rifles ever. Especially with just the ironsights, which most games don't let you use for some reason
Beautiful gun, great job and you’re hilarious.
Fun fact: some people might mistake the Dragunov for an upscaled AK when it’s really not. The PSL however is an upscaled AK
That's literally what he said in the beginning 🗿
Deadass, I'd love to have a PSL. I'd be way too timid to have fun with an SVD.
@L E S D A 💥 De que coño hablas? Joder, aprende a escribir...
@@ihurricane7 I didn’t watch that part then
I admired this work of art while serving in the army. to my great regret, my eyesight did not allow me to become a sniper and I ran with an AK-74 Kalashnikov assault rifle.
The external similarity of the SVD and AK is explained by the Soviet Arms School, where all the designers studied and naturally borrowed the best ideas from each other.
Cool!
A case of "if its working why change it"
I'm over in Canada, local gun shop has not one but two of them for sale. Sadly they had to be swapped into 7.62x39 for import
I never realized how similar the SVD and the Type 81 rifle are internally and functionally.
the type 81 is basically a mish mash of the Draganov an SKS and an AK
Russian engineering philosophy.
Enemy is here: AK
Enemy is over there: Large AK
Enemy is too close: AK but shoot shotgun shells
Lot of enemy: belt fed AK
This logic checks out
it just works
Logical philosophy.. easy traning and manofacture
Out of ammo? Put bayonet on all AK
You are correct Sir on everything
The sound when u hit the steel at the beginning goes on forever when hit with the draganov😊
Hey Brandon, could we ever see a video on how stormy Daniels is doing now? I havent seen her in ages and we all loved the old dirt test videos
She blew up after we shot it from a cannon…twice 😂
Sick PSL bro
I hate you.
Also I love you.
@@BrandonHerrera Probably a dumb question . . . but why do you hate them?
@@BrandonHerrera hey man Black Rifle Coffee Co is run by Crooks. They don’t support private firearm ownership and denounce Kyle rittenhouse. They Alsso aren’t fond of trump supporters or actual right wingers. They’re grifters
@@rachelbear9558 I assume because the svd belonged to him and he charged him appropriate money to purchase it
Badass SVD…would love to have one.
When I was growing up in the 80s, the first time I saw one of these is when I was playing with GI Joe action figures and the Cobra trooper had a Dragonov
“Your favorite call of duty back when…call of duty was good” won me over. This man remembers MW2
I to remember Mechwarrior 2, and still have the program disks.
MW2 was full of hackers and people who would abuse the host functionality.
Can't say there are many guns I'd consider "pretty", but the SVD is one of them. They're gorgeous.
Long leggy girl
An absolutely beautiful rifle. 😊
Thanks man
The battery for PSO-1 scope (and most of it's copies) is AG-13/LR44, it uses 2 of those for cross backlight. It is still in production. On Amazon they cost about 5$ for pack of 6
@Nathan Brown dude check on Amazon
MAN I love the Dragunov. Such a sleek and timeless design. Surprisingly sleek for such a spicy round.
Right, it is a lot thinner than I imagined
I can see him hugging it while he sleeps
I have LITERALLY no idea but the section of the video from 5:47 - 5:58 like MASSIVELY reminded me of Jordan Howlett (He's a guy that makes shorts) Something about your mannerism for this little section just like... I cant even explain it. Just REALLY reminded me of him and his videos lol.
Well now you just need an Ash-12, GsH-18 and a SR3M to complete a list of Russian unicorns
An-94? Lol
What about the sr2?
what about pp2000
AS-VAL and VSS would be great aswell as the 9x39 ammo
Don’t forget the AK-107
"It's not an imitation, it's not a PSL..."
Feels like you're kicking a certain bearded ginger in the junk with that note. You rock, Brandon. Stay awesome. 🤙🏾
You'll have to be more specific. There are a lot of bearded gingers in our hobby who are deserving of nut kicks.
@@mkultraification I'm assuming MAC
@@wolfgang_h3t it was directed at Baddie
It is Chinese though
I mean its got Norinco slapped on the side so its not a Russian SVD its a Chinese Type 85
