  • Episode 35! This time I went to our Scandinavian neighbors in the east, Finland. When I started researching the more extreme branches of the Metal tree back in the early 2000’s, I discovered the genre Funeral Doom. Skepticism was one of the bands that popped up while reading about the genre in itself. I checked them out and got to hear a small snippet of the track “Sign Of A Storm”. That was an intense experience for me. That deep dwelling of a soundscape, the total slowness and the depressing somberness in the music. It has stuck with me ever since. So when I wrote the title track of the “Katedralen” by Mork, I suddenly got the idea of trying to reach out to the organist of Skepticism. Since the music I was writing kind of reminded me of that genre, Funeral Doom. And with Mork always being a big part of my life and existence, why not try and bring threads from the meager beginnings all the way to the present day. I got in touch with Eero Pöyry, who is just that organist of Skepticism, and he obliged to my invitation. That brought us together and that is also how and why I got to visit him in his native Finland just recently, where we also did this podcast episode. Please enjoy Eero’s story about his journey and how he helped establish the metal sub genre we call Funeral Doom.
