      There are many versions of this ride that operate without the comfort collars. They are not part of the restraint system. This would be a pretty easy lawsuit for SeaWorld to win, as it's not much different then someone taking their seatbelt off during a ride that has another primary restraint. If this news station did any actual reporting, and research they would have realized this is a non-story. For OBVIOUS reasons workers aren’t allowed to spend a lot of time around the pelvic area of guests. You as a parent should technically be more concerned about a belt being secured around your child than a random worker. As a rider you are responsible for checking and double and triple checking that the belt is latched. Your kid didn’t latch it properly, and you didn’t double check. I typically don't showcase that behavior on my Tiktok livestreams while at the park, but CLEARLY I will need to in the future to prevent a flagrant or frivolous claim like this. Thankfully OSHA and the manufacturer of Electric Eel will back SeaWorld, especially with the recent safety upgrades. The comfort harness has a carabiner type clip to latch, which means that this woman's child either intentionally or possibly unintentionally knocked it loose. My guess is she was playing with it. Anyone that has ridden Electric Eel knows it would take an intentional action to open the clasp. As scary as this incident is. The girl was not in danger in the slightest.
    The comfort collars are not the primary restraint on the ride. The lapbar is. The comfort collars are there to act as a secondary restraint in case the main restraint fails (which is a impossible scenario as that would require both hydraulic cylinders to go out on the car. Which, would absolutely be noticed by ride the ride operators). A replica of this ride located at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Northern California without these collars for over 10+ years and has had no accidents.
    That said, I wish there was more clarity between the ride operators and the manager about this whole scenario. If I was a ride operator there, I would've called up to maintenance to have them fix the collar then explain how her daughter wasn't in danger once the girl wasn't as panaked. And by no means should they have been thrown out of the park. That's unacceptable.

    • @DavidEngh
      @DavidEngh Před 25 dny

      The comfort collars are likely to help ensure the lap bar is down far enough to properly hold larger guests. If larger guests are unable to buckle the comfort collars, that means the primary restraint isn't down far enough to secure the guest. It makes it easy on ride operators to tell if a guest fits or not. Most belts on any rollercoaster serve this purpose and newer ride's will also have computerized go / no go restraint heights to ensure the safety of larger riders.

Unfortunately my friends, we are not in Generation Z and before anymore… Back when we were 10 we’d wear unicorn pants and character shirts, things sadly changed. Most young Gen alpha kids dress like this normally. I have a neighbor who’s kid is 10 but dresses like a teenager and has social medias, she is sassy and curses and is harassed by predators (don’t worry me and other neighbors and helping it get it under control bc her parents don’t care). Many of you probably even noticed, all over CZcams there is VERY young children cursing and thinking they’re a teenager when they’re a literal child. Something similar happened to me & our family when I was young at Magic Mountain.
    A lady 2 rows from us, the seat bar that holds people into our seat during roller coaster rides, hers somehow malfunctioned and opened up by itself during our ride. Her husband who was sitting next to her kept his arm around her during the 2 minute ride and she was screaming for dear life.
    A young man sitting behind her also wrapped his arms around her to keep her in her seat when he saw her seat bar opened up.
    As soon as we got back to the station, the lady, her husband, the young man behind her and me and my cousin started complaining to the workers and told them what happened.
    They immediately shut down the ride that second, and dispersed everybody that was in line until they investigate what happened during our ride.
    The lady and her husband were distraught and rightfully so.
    I remember management immediately rushed over to us, called their internal ambulance and gently took the lady and her husband away while consoling them.

    That would be a scary situation if it was my daughter and she was on that ride, but here’s the thing it was a comfort strap. It was not a safety harness. There’s a big difference there and because they refused to close the ride down woman’s making a bigger deal out of it than it should be your daughter was never in any danger, it was a comfort that’s all. Please read up on that so you know exactly what a comfort strap is and I’ll bet you anything she’s going to make this about money. She’s going to file a lawsuit because everything these days is about lawsuits and money no wonder why our country is so bad financially. I understand how scary it was. I can only imagine how I would feel if that had been my daughter, but your daughter was never in any danger so please don’t make this about money so you can get some kind of financial payout they offered you for free tickets. I would’ve taken that.

    hiiii former seaworld ride operator here
    SeaWorld is a terrible company and they deserve shade for it but nobody's safety was endangered in this incident, the "comfort collars" aren't a part of the ride's safety mechanism, they are there solely to make riders feel more comfortable (obviously a bit counterintuitive when a malfunction occurs, but in general operation people tend to prefer the presence of something over their shoulders to make them feel more secure).
    I should also note that despite SeaWorld being awful, they do have rigid safety procedures and (from what I gather from employees at other amusement parks) is a lot more serious about safety than pretty much any other park. I'm fairly certain this is because they want to avoid any new bad publicity like the plague, especially when it comes to their rides, given that they are planning on transitioning to a ride-based strategy. If there's any theme park you won't die at, I'd put my money on SeaWorld. Still you shouldn't go there lol, I'm here to defend my rides not my employer

    I am a roller coaster enthusiast and I can confirm that even though the comfort collar fell off the girl was in no danger the comfort collar does nothing for the actual ride restraint and is more of a psychological trick to make you think that it is more safe/comfortable even if the comfort collar falls off you are safe because it’s not the actual physical restraint and is not serious

    It’s exactly that, a comfort collar. It is there simply to prevent people from feeling uncomfortable forces that can happen when you don’t follow ride rules. This same coaster model runs without them all over the world (and it’s honesty a better ride without them). I’ve been on hundreds of coasters and many times these add ons to restraints just cause unnecessary panic because the average rider thinks it is what keeps you secured. My opinion, if it does not lock or act as a true restraint, it should not be there.
