- 31 March 2021. James Low teaching on the dzogchen introduction for the students of Oxford Internal Arts.
Organisation: Gio Maschio
00:00 Dzogchen is about the process of constantly manifesting out of an ungraspable openness
- Dzogchen is not about a special entity or divine being, but pointing to the mysterious process of manifestation
- The view in Dzogchen is that our mind is pure and uncontaminated from the beginning, but we construct a false sense of self-identity through selective attention and editing
04:30 Our base is ungraspable openness
- When we fixate on stuff and build pictures of who we are, we become busy
- Karma is the belief that things are real and important, leading to investment in our projects
08:28 Our mind is like the sky infinite open and bright
- We perceive our complex world through rarification and self-identification
- The ego self is an agent that aims for a purpose
12:24 Dzogchen is a pure awareness free from intention or subject-object perception
- Dzogchen practice involves relaxing and allowing whatever arises without attachment
- In meditation, we experience attachments and biased attention shaping our perception
16:29 The ego self holds itself apart from the field of experience
- Allowing ourselves to do nothing in meditation can bring up anxiety of annihilation
- Dissolving the ego leads to realizing our belonging in the world in non-duality
20:22 Our mind is like a mirror, empty of self but always showing radiant display
- The mirror reflects different patterns and the reflections of self and others arise together.
- World patterns vary for different beings based on their nature and perception.
23:53 Release yourself from the mental tunnel of recollection and plans, and be present moment by moment.
- Embody the openness of the mind and participate in the fresh co-emergence of the body and others.
- Put down cultural fixations and egoic fixations to see the naked fresh potential of the world.
28:03 Overinvestment in limited projects leads to violence and conflict due to identifying others as enemies
- Overinvestment in limited projects diminishes true value and meaning
- Identification of others as enemies leads to war and violence
31:56 Recognize and be part of the space
- Practice relaxation and openness with eyes open
- Release the energy and let go of identification with thoughts and concepts

Still have 10 min left to watch but my heart is already overflowing with joy and wonder. This man casually and so fluently sums up 20 years of trying to understand what can't be understood but only be revealed through grace. Every word confirms and matches my hearts content. It's so simple and so beautiful. Thank you so much.
🥰🤗
I love this person's delivery .. he truly understands this material and expresses it very well. Thank you so much. I have come to many of the same conclusions without studying this material - it just feels essentially TRUE.
as an English speaker, Low's words help illuminate the priceless wisdom of Dzogchen. I have listened to many translations of Tibetan masters and Low is excellent in his elaborations. Thanks so much

I recognize this connection you have with your consciousness. It feels amazing to close your eyes while channeling our inner knowing. Thank you for following your heart and your knowledge. I didn't know this is what I've taught myself, a name for the action. How beautiful 😍

Thank you big man.
I love James and Dzogchen. But recently ive come across the message of Tony Parsons, Jim Newman, Andreas Muller, Emerson... they're shating the message of Radical Nonduality. I'm finding it very interesting.
How does Dzogchen differ? Any comments are very much appreciated.

Hi James. Thank you for the introduction. I have a question on Tibetan Buddhist in General. I noticed different schools of Buddhism and different schools of thought like Hinduism have different personality expressions. For instance I don't know if this is accurate but I have noticed that Tibetan Buddhist love to laugh and I noticed its completely effortless, compared to a Zen monk who can be serious or an Advaitan who can be very stoic. Just an observation but I was wondering if you could shed light on this. I have always been curious why this is. Thank you.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yet we do need to attend, sense, feel, decide and act selectively in order to survive and support others?
I guess one can do that without "me".
Nice 🙂
Great...thank you

I thought Dzogchen translated as The Great Perfection.
It is. Great Perfection. Great Completion. As James says.
Sir,
Mere Thoughtlessness is not a dzogchen, if it is so, pigeons always stay like that probably must be doing dzogchen...
How do you know Pigeons don't think? 🙂 But he is not saying you should be without thought: that is not the Dzogchen teaching. You can have thought, but not be the slave of thoughts!
One doesn't become thought free but rather free of thoughts.
The thoughts i was clinging to, I've freed myself of them.
I disagree when he says "it's about conversation, communication not becoming a yogi in a cave".
That is a shallow view of what communication is in my view. There is a good reason many great mystics loved silence and did not speak very much because you have to be aware of "who"is speaking and most people are not. They love the sound of their own voice but is a narcissistic pleasure.
But it is a complex matter..
Thank you
