- they will always be the weapon that made me love splatoon though.
oh my god it is here! (kinda) i feel like this was the best way for me to move on from dapples, because more and more I've seen how non-viable/outclassed they've become and i wanted to share my thoughts. there will always be better players and people can disagree, like i said it is fine! just my opinion on the matter. as for what's next...i don't know :/ but I'll try and get these out more if people enjoy them.

Both dapple kits have niches, but it’s so sad that both are outclassed by a weapon that can just do it better(zap and tetras)
I never like judging a *Main* Weapon by its kit, but I understand how they can perform better with the right tools. I'm sure every weapon would be "viable" in Comp if it got Splat/Fizzy and Wail/Trizooka, but not every weapon will get that fortune. Even if the Dapples did get that fortune, I'd assume the Main would still get outclassed by other weapons in similar ways it does now
Although giving it that kit would help, that is true. If the vanilla dualies got a kit on par with the (hypothetically) better third kit, they would still be outclassed as there is no way to close distance.
I don’t agree with this. I think the main weapon of dapples is fine. All it needs on a kit is a damaging bomb and a special that isn’t awful. That’s not a big ask. If you gave any other short range weapon the kits that dapples gets across 2 and 3 than they would be stuck being unviable as well.
Sploosh-o-matic is a weapon that is even more extreme than dapple dualies, but it saw quite a bit of top level play in splatoon 2 as a rainmaker weapon with sploosh 7. The kit wasn’t a dream kit, but it allowed the weapon to show off it’s benefits that were too often suffocated by bad kits that held it back. Carbon has also been able to be a top level weapon in multiple games despite also being very extreme like dapples. If you gave the kits dapples received to any other weapon they would also suffer heavily.
@@bhizzle64Bro, dark tetras literally has a worse dapples kit and is a top 10 weapon rn, and it's a pretty extreme weapon itself.
I'd also hardly call sploosh viable if it's only used in one game mode in one game, and carbon was only really widely used in splatoon 1, in the other games it just has occasionally successful use and I wouldn't really consider that viable either.
I think dapples, as a main weapon, is pretty weak, and even with a good kit it's only going to see extremely niche usage simply because there are just better main weapons that probably have similar kits. For example, if you gave dapples splat bomb killer wail, which is a kit mentioned before, it would still not see usage because vanilla inkbrush is just better. Splat bomb trizooka? If splattershot can't really make suction bomb trizooka work I promise you dapples can't make that work.

It's more than obvious that the dapples don't work, bottom 10 usage across 3 games speaks for itself.
It's watever man, 10 Mos late but ur not alone. I keep saying they're going to have to change functionally how this weapon works to fix it. Faster swim, more range, or longer rolls.
The baffling part is why they seemingly haven't done anything to them. Especially considering that A LOT of weapons are just functionally bad, and splat devs make no changes.
I just so happen to like a lot of the ones that sxck ig so I feel it more than others.
My dream kit for the dapples since in a dappels dulies main, (i have 3 mains) it would be zipcaster and burst bomb but Nintendo wont put burst bomb on it and we already have a zipcaster dulies now (light tetra's) so i think maybe a more realistic sub would be suction bomb and a mote realistic special kraken
My 3 mains are dulies squelchers dapple dulies and dynamo roller
For me they should also buff the main weapon, like since the dodgerolls of the dapples are really short, why not just giving it 3 instead of 2? Also it would be good in they slightly increase the range of the it so it could fight a bit better.
It's sad how this weapon was treated like shit for 6 years now and it deserves at least a time to shine.

I went from Dapples to Wiper, too, the range trade-off just made sense to me - but I also miss playing dapples So Much
Conveniently tho, a VWiper gearset works for Nouveau Dapples, and same for Wiper Deco & V Dapples!!
Ngl, Currently. I've been trying to get the golden badge for dapples dualies and, I completely stopped playing them cuz from how boring it got.
Don't get me wrong its an awesome weapon but, I dont find dapples to be fun anymore although I like fast paced weapons. Really hope Clear Dapples gets a better kit.
I know that im probably not more experienced than you when it comes to dapples, but as a mid level comp player, I think youre seriously underating the vdapples. True, wiper deco and 85 have beakons and cooler respectivley, but neither have both. Yes, missles are incredibly strong, but that dosent make cooler nececarrily any weaker. True, the dapples have short range, but the combination of its kit and its dodge rolls let it get out of a lot of situations that wiper might not.
Running vdapples lets you completley focus on support, freeing the rest of your team to run a hyper-aggro comp, which can offset the bad range. And either way, I really dont think the main weapon is so bad that it gets held back that far. And if it is heald back that far, I doubt it having a bomb would change it.
Seriously, I dont mean to be rude or anything, but kits dont need bombs to be good. This kit gives the dapples a really fun niche that can be genuinley effective. If the vdapples had the krak-on or kensa kit you made, yeah, itd be effective. But it would lose its identity and just turn turn into zooka bomb slayer #5. I think its more important for the weapon ti have its own identity, rather than conform to what the meta says works 100% of the time.
Yeah no as time passed I grew to believe that as well. Unfortunately I don’t play them anymore, but don’t get me wrong, there are still some things that are completely unavoidable but at the time I was just really upset after playing for so long with no substantial buffs or the sort. I’ve had a lot of time to sit and think about this video and genuinely thought of deleting/hiding it, cause I don’t like having something this negative on my channel without any real pros to why the weapon was so engaging in the first place.
Great video, I would show more gameplay of dapple or whichever weapon you discuss next, but otherwise fantastic hope it blows up!

they both have similar subs and the same special, but the tetras just outclass it bc of its main
it would have been amazing if we could have gotten another special on the nouveau dapples like inkjet or trizooka

Dapples themselves have a hard time fitting into the meta I feel. The lack of range means that it really needs a good kit to work. Like you said though, it kinda just gets outclassed by other weapons with similar kits most of the time. It's unfortunate, but it's the hand that was dealt. Hopefully the 3rd kit is better (when it comes out in 2025).
Thank you so much! I will work hard to improve. And yes, I completely agree, if the third kit releases then the main issue there would be if it’s even playable at that point. Dapples isn’t just getting a third kit I’d hope, it would be competing with every weapon and their third kits as well.
Naps(aka Dapple Dualie Nouveau) is my second favorite Dualies after Spaba(VDualies). I don't really like it has Refslider, but I like that it has Torp. VDaps I only use in Rainmaker. I wish Dapples had better kits.
Love the new video type! I wish dapples were better. Dualies are one of the most fun classes and dapples are one of the most fun in the class. My highest kill game is even with dapples.
I’ve been feeling a bit of the same way with my H3, I love the weapon, and it can do fine at top level. The more I used both H3 kits, I’ve been preferring the vanilla kit over the H3D one. This then makes me look at other weapons that can fill more of an aggressive role if my team needed me to. So I’ve been wanting to use both Splattershots and the Splattershot Pro then use H3 for other reasons.
It’s a shame we might not get a third kit for this weapon, great video!
Thank you for making this video! I always love videos like this that talk about what positions weapons are in. I do have a question: considering Dapples got mist as a sub in Splatoon 2, what is your opinion on mist returning for clear dapples in S3, such as a mist/Tristrike kit?
I wouldn’t mind it but I would be incredibly disappointed tbh. Mist is very situational and fine since draining ink and slowing down people is good for dapples as they can capitalize of it really well, the problem is that it would be another returning sub where I want to see something new on the weapons entirely. Tristrike does sound very interesting, the problem with it though is that you have to back up when you get it, get into position and throw them out which can take time. Dapples are frontliners more than neo-splash and ttek so using them is essentially opening yourself up cause you have no access to your main weapon which would be hurting it. I would much prefer to see mist and wail, wail would allow semi-displacement while also giving it an entry tool
Even if their not the best I prefer them for the speed and beacons it makes it easy to hide in enemy base or for teammates to get to an area quicker and more safely because you can put them in obscure areas instead of them jumping to you in battle and getting killed

I agree with rhis the dapple dullies need better,being someone that has used all wepones in slpatoon 2 and 3 the dapples were done bad with kits. Im glad to know there are others that main the wepon. Sorry if this is a handfull to read.

That’s true, they’re the reason I picked up dapples in the first place. With enough time and practice it is possible to reach that same level on solo queue. I was talking about playing them competitively and my own thoughts on their state in that position. Solo queue anything goes still of course since a lot less coordination is a given but in comp, you need to work coordinately in order to win and dapples get outclassed against weapons like vsplash,ballpoint and blasters in the meta, making them really difficult to play in the comp scene.

Dapples are such a fun main weapon. I really disagree with the notion that the main weapon is the reason it keeps failing. Carbon roller plays extremely similarly to dapples with very short range but is extremely lethal once it gets in and it has been a high-top tier weapon in multiple games. These kinds of weapons just need kits that allow them to work around their weaknesses. I firmly believe that if dapples just got a damaging bomb and a special that wasn't awful, it would easily be able to compete with carbon deco as a close range slayer. but for whatever reason, the devs just keep giving dapples kits that either have no bombs, or specials that get you killed.
Carbon roller is great, but the main difference is that with carbon it’s lethal threat is almost instant popping out of ink, there’s almost zero time to react if they get the drop on you. With dapples, you either have to commit a roll or risk a slower 3-shot. I’m not saying it’s bad. The main weapons are more than capable to deal damage but it’s just the kits not giving it enough options to do exactly that.
@@arzuruspl Yeah it’s not as fast as carbon but I do think they can fill a similar role and it has advantages that carbon doesn’t. Perhaps a better example is sploosh, which is even more extreme as a main weapon with even less range but was still able to see a good amount of top level play in splatoon 2 with it’s sploosh 7 kit.

Also like dapples, sploosh is simply outclassed.
It doesn't matter how good your kit is when you can't reach ppl to adequate distances. A bomb and a special doesn't solve the problem of "walking back" and killing dapple.
Also, be cause sploosh doesn't have to reticle, doesn't need to roll for max dps, and paints better... I think it's you who's underestimating my dear sploosh 👀😬😂
The Dapples are my favorite dualie in both Splatoons 2 and 3. I loved the red ones in Splatoon 2 because of the Suction Bomb Launcher. But that one ended up getting Tacticooler in 3, which doesn't really fit it. Now I like the blue Dapple Dualies-Reefslider is one of my favorite specials. If it was up to me, the red Dapple Dualies would have Squid Beakon and Super Chumps, and the blue Dapple Dualies would have Toxic Mist and Reefslider.
In splatoon 2 i mained dapples nouveau sooo its very sad to see this as a mid tier weapon because its so fun to use but guess nintendo would probably give it another bad kit like in splatoon 2
As a sploosh main I can relate to how bad dapples have been treated in Splatoon 3.
Sploosh also is in a pretty atrocious spot in Splatoon 3's meta (I don't even play competitive btw, I just lack the will or patience) for similar reasons except in a way, slightly worse, because both of the Sploosh-o-matic's kits are outclassed by Splatana Wiper's kits, on top of the fact that both kits are stuck with utility subs (quick rant here, but I have no idea why curling bomb was brought back when fizzy bomb exist).
Hopefully when the Sploosh 7 comes out that It would have it's splat bomb like it always had, but it's a shame that us Sploosh mains will have to wait until next year once again, just for that to happen, but even that is no guarantee, possibly they'll give it point sensor instead even if they give it kraken.
Or they'll nerf splat bomb or whatever sub and special that would soon to end up on sploosh 7 to the ground before the weapon even becomes available. A lot can happen in a year and the same issue could end up happening to clear dapples.
And that's not even taking into account, the design of Splatoon 3's average maps and the lack of flanks which especially make dapples and sploosh more frustrating in this game, Sploosh fairs worse in this regard due to a lack of a bomb at the moment.
THAT IS SO TRUE, maps are another discussion entirely, but the reason these types of weapons were able to thrive was because of alternate routes and pathways that LET you take fights on any angle. In splatoon 3, maps are so linear that you have to basically outskill the opponent in a 1v1 to get through a certain chokepoint just to fight your way through another one.
This video is so real. I love playing Dapples and I used them so much in S2. Mainly VDapples and Napples, but I feel like none of the S2 kits gave Dapples the proper justice and chance it needed. S3 Napples could’ve have been SO good if they just gave it Ink Storm again, but they had to give it the suicide button ._.
If we ever get a third kit we NEED Ink Storm and literally ANY lethal sub

i main vdapples. they feel good for me. i really only use them for rainmaker mostly because of its kit. the squid beacon is amazing for rainmaker, and tacticooler is just good in general. i prefer vdapples compared to the new splatana and n-zap because i dont do good with splatana and i prefer being able to dodge roll.

I think just giving it a longer dodge roll would do wonders. Might be broken but dapples just need a way to approach on these terrible maps

MAYBE? Depends on if in the future line marker gets a slight damage buff. it would be very fun to use regardless and it would give it some range and location which would help it slightly. Overall, I honestly think it could work

a) have a bad kit clothes wise
b) you dont get up in there face enought
c) or you just dont know how to use them

@@KNGDDDE yeah thats the downside you just gotta be extremely aggressive and go for a quick respawn time and high swim speed cause by playing agressive i mean throwing yourself into every fight close to you.
