Sid Phillips said he was one of the most celebrated “nobodies” of WW2, which, considering the scope and scale of WW2 may be true, but we owe our freedom to him and millions of brave, heroic “nobodies” just like him. It’s a shame they can’t all be as recognized and celebrated as he was, because they definitely deserve to be. They truly were The Greatest Generation! RIP Mr. Phillips.
Thankfully some of them wrote down what happened. I’ll never forget hearing the time grandpa told me about the Japanese flag he had stashed away. Never talked about it outside of our conversation according to my dad. RIP
Southerners are incredible with the written word, which is why we know his story. That and the fact that he and his buddy, Eugene Sledge, were willing to share their stories. Most never talked about it.
I remember when he said "I have had a great life, I married a woman more beautiful than I should have, I have great kids and grandkids...I have just had a wonderful life"...so much respect for he and his comrades...RIP and God Bless you and yours
I have just discovered Sid Phillips and I’m am grateful to him and the men like him for what they did for me , I was born in 1950 and they made my years peaceful years, , and I am blessed that I did not have to go through what these men had to, RIP Dr Sid Phillips from me Chris J.
A great and humble man who lived through hell put to rest. My religious beliefs may be different, but such a thing should not get in the way of respecting people who deserve it.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. As a Marine Veteran I was truly inspired by the stories of his service to our country and to the Marines he fought next to.
I wish that I had the oppertunity to meet these great men that come only once in a lifetime.... You will never see these men again real men. I've always'd wanted to meet Sidney Phillips, Eugene Sledge, Robert Leckie, Dick Winters, Bill Gaurneer, Shiftey Powers, Babe Hefron, etc all these men even though there are 2 separate division and military branch I just named out of here. But if I had the oppertunity to meet them I would talk to them for hours and shake their hand and give them a tight grip of a handshake.... the only difference is that their handshake is a lot stronger then I myself will ever be. I respect all these men including my great grandfather that served his time in WWII. All those men inspire me to become not only a Marine but to follow their footsteps even though our paths are different. God bless all of these men they are guarding the streets of heaven.
RIP Sydney. When i saw u in the Pacific series being interviewed and portrayed in the series . You struck me as a very positive and amazing person and making the most out of your life despite being to hell and back . Hope u are reunited with your loved ones who have left the mortal coil before you .
What a man. God rest his soul. I hope that our generation can live up to his, and perhaps do as he wished...to turn this land, godless since the 1960s, back to God.
I love these three individuals. Dr. Sidney Phillips, Kathaine Phillip;, Eugene B. Sledge. They are all dead now. Eugene Sledge was the first to dewpart this life.Dr. Phillips died in 2015, and Katharine Phillips Singer diesd at 96 years old. Everyone of them a very fine example od how to live. Sledge died in 2001.
You're obviously not a veteran and you sure as hell don't have any honor about yourself you just a typical internet f*** who wants to get on an insult somebody of Honor because you're too busy living in your parents basement and being an a****** to ever be any kind of a man at all
Look if that's all you can do, disrespecting honorable men like Dr Phillips, you need to watch dumbo the elephant or something similar. My father was in the 1st marine division, he also joined in the great city of Mobile Alabama. He was working at the shipyard with the Boilermakers local in Mobile. When you insult one Marine you insult all. So grow up.
do not weep for him. He is back with his friends.

Good nite.......
May I ask why the hell there are 4 thumb down here?
Communist
People may be giving it a thumbs down that he died. Its kind of odd when you think about it to give a thumbs up when you are told someone has died.
Horrendous presentation by a rube tv station...no photos of him in uniform???? Duh, news producers...
Made in America.
Rest in our lords arm's! Thank you and your generation for your service and protection in those terrible days! 🙏🏽🇺🇸
He did us a great service in Toy Story.
Not cool man not cool.
