      Brigante7 That's my point, The Crickets version is the classic! Fuller, and The Clash recorded classic takes on it in their own rights! The other versions I've heard just don't stack up imho including this one!

      Never said it was the "definitive" version, many would argue the Clash version is. Me? I like them all in their own way....except Springsteen's version, can't stand his voice, can't stand his music! Have a nice day! :-)

    Bruce McGill sang this on the Miami Vice episode, Out Where the Buses Don't Run, which aired on October 18, 1985. MV was one of my all time favorite shows. It was the first to combine MTV with police action drama.

    all covers are great but Fullers will always be the best West Texas sound ever because it was Cristened by the Crickets then past on to Bobby to make it a massive hit, I gave a Fuller album to the band member of squeeze Glenn Tilbrook, who happens to be a friend of Joe Strummer the rest is history x

      As Joe Strummer got older him and Bruce did begin to look similar. And both had great empathy for the working class and the blue collar workers. And dressed similar too. Odd. Of course Joe and The Clash were 100% better

    If anybody knows his rock n' roll history its Bruce. The Bobby Fuller Four had a hit with this in 1965 and its sound goes back to Buddy Holly. Bobby Fuller even came from Lubbock Texas and it was written by the Crickets. quite a pedigree.

    The song was written in 1958 by Sonny Curtis, and recorded in 1959 when he joined the Crickets, taking the place of the late Buddy Holly on guitar.

    I have a feeling that Bruce got some mileage covering this one while in his early bands in the '60's....this request was spontaneous...Bruce and the EStreeters were a bit rusty, granted, but he made up for it with a real nice chord solo. Viva Springsteen!

    Great from Bruce here, this has got to be 1 of the most funny songs ever.The idea that it was an even contest :-D Same for "breaking the law", by Judas Priest, but for different reasons.After that song, you literally Wanna go out and do some mayhem.it would be really funny, for someone to play those 2 songs back to back, with "I fought the law but the law won" after "breaking the law"

    I am also a massive fan of The Clash and ....wait for it SO IS BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN..he even done a rousing rendition of London Calling in tribute to Joe Strummer. I like all 3 versions all for different reasons.

    @gsavage115 The Clash used to do this as a warm-up song before recording sessions. It was their manager, Bernie Rhodes, who insisted it be included on their (US) debut album.

    I'm a Bruce Springsteen fan and I've enjoyed his music since I was in high school. What did Occupy Wall Street win? I mean really, what changed? People camped out in cities, they were eventually removed from the property, so I'm not aware of what they accomplished. In Portland, Oregon some radicals were found to have explosives, a few people overdosed on heroine.

    @sawmillslim I saw him also on that tour and he did covers way better back then, The night I went he played Rave On by Buddy Holly and he killed it. The E Street Band was at there best (I feel) on the Darkness and River tours no doubt. They just kicked ass every night. No BS just kick ass in your face R&R. I did not care for the Born in the USA tour at all. Not having Little Steven left a big hole in the band.

    @KleWdSide The Boss rules, but this is not his speed. He comes across sounding like a campy gimmick playing this song. People need to stop embarrassing themselves trying to play this song. There's one version of this song that matters: The Clash live. That's it.
