Many thanks for explaining using setting circles. This video is just what I was looking for. You explained it good enough for his old coot to get it the first time and I learn slow. lol Good job.

I found your video just in time - I bought a 1979 C8 2 days ago and it has the original instruction book. I have been trying to work it out from that. Your vid really simplified it. Great communication skills!😊👍

Thank you so much! Just got my first Meade 8” SCT (it’s from the late 80’s) and I was advised to learn how to use setting circles because it would be a valuable skill. Thanks for creating this video, it’s appreciated :-)

Thanks for taking the time to pass on your knowledge, I'm from Manchester (England) myself and have had a C8 for 20 odd years and never taken the time to learn how to use it properly, thanks again.

I have the same Celestar C8 with the fork mount and drive...went out a few nights ago to try after watching your video but no success with tracking via RA. Watched your video again and I think i realized my mistake...i set the RA time on my 1st known brite star on the drive's zero hash mark and not the fork zero hash mark...going to try again on first clear night but just to say again how helpful this video really is for us newbies! I've searched for tutorials and this is the best one for these older style scopes.

I found some of your videos and I wanted to say that you are such a wonderful dad. I hope that I can be as good of a father as you are. You are a good man and my family and I wish you and your family all the best and success life has to offer. When I was a kid, music was my only outlet and my parents would not have anything to do with my music. To see you so involved with your kids and giving them the gift of music is a lifelong gift that they will never ever forget.
God bless you and your family

Wow, thank you for that. Just made my night. I try to give my kids the things I didn't have as a child myself. Including a father of my own. It's not always easy. Especially when it comes to discipline. But, sometimes you have to balance being their parent, and being their friend. Really appreciate the kind words. Thank you.

Thanks for the video. I've done polar alignment on my c8 but something was always off. Thanks for the pointers, and actually seeing someone do it helps tremendously. You have shown me what I was missing. Thank you.

Thank you, I picked up an early 80’s C8 in a Fork Mount. Then got a SE HD Tripod Wedge base. My Wedge Mount doesn’t have any markings for Latitude. Do you know how I can figure that out? Can I use a protractor?
In the very first step what are you pointing north, the apex tripod leg or using the top bolt slot on the Wedge should that align with Polaris as seen from behind the mount?
How are you turning your drive off and on, by a switch, or by engaging the clutch?
You did a great job, I just need some clarification from the perspective I saw it.
BTW, my tripod legs extend but 2/3 don’t lock enough to keep from sliding down. How did you make yours adjustable. Mine uses an eccentric lever that pushes on rubber or leather. That material seems to have worn down, so it no longer holds. Thanks much, Dave in Central PA.

The latitude part, 41 degree; it is pretty confusing. The angular settings on the tilt plate arc reads 0 at top and 90 as parallel to ground.
I also found you do Polaris alignment. Eitherway, it appears consistent for Polar alignment, but take an extreme example like latitude 25 degree, would the scope titled more pointing Zenith or Horizon? Thank you. I also agree with the older scope and graduations, I do not want too many electronics to the extent that there is no thinking behind the physics.
I would like to know if declination motor is necessary if I get everything Polar aligned and start off using RA motor.
I have exactly the same model and I love this telescope (C8).

Can you explain how to created your fine tuning adapter with the all thread and brackets? The polar aligning is my biggest challenge with my old Celestron 8 SCT.

@@tsyamaha4 Great video and only people who have never done videos would make a comment about uhhhs.. davy needs to try turning a camera on him and see how difficult and intimidating it actually is to do a live video with no uhhhs and see how great he would be - especially on the first one. You do not suck at all; great informative video. I have made 300+ videos on my channel and I am embarrassed to even look back at some of my first ones. Keep up the good work and thanks so much for the information.
