This song is dedicated to my sister. I remember she wanted to listen to this song on repeat when it came on about 20 years ago. How time flies. I miss you
Richard's wife once asked him what he was writing and he told her that it was probably the worst thing he'd written and he would dispose of it. She asked him to sing it for her. When Richard had finished, his wife offered her opinion which was that it could be the best he's written so far. Thanks to Richards wife for saving this wonderful classic. It's not only one of the best songs I've heard in my 68 years on this earth but it's a story of human behaviour that we must never excuse but sadly have to accept as being among us until the end of time.

This song and Phil Collins, In the Air Tonight (I hate that song and refuse to listen to it in the car because whilst taking Drivers Ed that song, Danger Zone and I’ve Had The Time of My Life were the soundtrack to the State Police accident video they showed).
yes -i agree !!its also sad that he split with cynthia rhodes-- she was so pretty and talented --she's the one from dirty dancing (the dance instructor)
They are still being written, and still being sung. But they are no longer being marketed. Autotune is what sells now and it’s sad and soulless. But great songwriters still exist and are still perfecting their craft, they are just not so widely distributed by the profit oriented music industry anymore.
This song has been in my head for nearly 20 years. Yet i only heard it once as a kid. I forgot the lyrics but kept the haunting melody. I just happened to click on Richard Marx Right here Waiting for you and saw this song as a suggestion. Clicked it and nearly started crying. Hauntingly beautiful song that intend to listen to over and over again!!!
I cant believe you wrote this! This is creapy.. This was played in my birthday when I was turning one.. And I'm 21 years old now and have been going around for 20 years remembering only the melody and not a single lyric. So this morning I just woke up with the melody in my head, first time it occurred to me to use sound hound.. And now I found it! :D
gunner gallian Obviously I didn't remember it on my own, growing up I was shown videos of this party but it was when all this technology wasn't available and the tape was in VHS so I haven't watched it in years! But I always remembered the melody
Xheliz i was just talking to a person before you about feeling and remembering pain as an infant and he was deluded. He said he remembers things from when he was one. So i came to this video and saw your comment and thought ooo not again. But yeh it makes sense with you but that guy was a nut
Love this song. I don't think Marx ever got the recognition he deserved. He had a lot of hits in the 90's but he's rarely mentioned among the greats of that era. I wore out the cassette I had with this song on it. He also collaborated with some great artists too. Loved Joe Walsh's guitar work on "it don't mean nothin'".
And to think, the great producer, David Foster, told him early on that he wasn’t going to make it, because he didn’t have the star factor. It just spurred Marx on, thank goodness.
I am 40 years old, and I had somehow gone my whole life without hearing this song, until my fiancé introduced me to it the other night! I absolutely love this song!!! What a treasure!!
Absolutely one of the saddest and most haunting songs I have ever come across in my 45 years of life. For some reason, I am drawn to sad, haunting stories and Melodies like this. In my opinion, this is the best song he ever wrote. I remember listening to this when I was back in high school, and feeling like it applied to my life in some respects. I have lived with a disability for virtually my whole life, and I have always felt like an outsider and an outcast, even among the people who should be most accepting and understanding. And so this song has always had a special place in my heart.
@@Rusty-mv1nc and yet, that isolation and separation from the group at-large has benefited my life immensely over the years. I don't rely on others to validate my on feelings of self-worth and value to the world. I have learned to rely on my own good sense and judgment and wisdom, along with accomplishing things to give me that sense of value on purpose. I see others around me who dedicate their lives, so it seems, to molding themselves into what they think everyone around them wants them to be or thinks they should be. It has given me a certain Inner Strength that I have depended on heavily over the course of my life. Friends are a great gift but good friends have been few and far between. I don't need people. I like having them around if they are genuine and good people. But I know that I can also live and be happy without them.
@@kylienagy8381 if you only knew! If you could comprehend how incredibly difficult and frustrating it is to try to socialize with people and make friends when you are living with poor vision your entire life. If you could only see the indifference, and how people feel they cannot relate to me, or believe that I am really so different from them. Even among my own family, there are those with whom I have no relationship because of conflict over what they believe I can or can't do, or what they think I should or shouldn't be doing. Or, imagine been trying to get a job in that field, only to have the person who is interviewing you tell you outright that they can't imagine how I can do the job because I don't see as well as they do. They imagine that if they had the same loss of vision, they wouldn't be able to function. And so they assume that I can't either. And I never get a chance to prove them wrong. That's the kind of Outkast I'm talking about. But it's not all bad for me. I have an amazing wife who likewise grew up with her own disability, and can relate too much of what I have experienced. I learned, many many years ago, through many difficulties, never to spend my life trying to measure up to someone else's expectations or beliefs of me. The result of such freedom is loneliness. That's what I'm talkin about. But I am grateful for such difficulties in my life, it has forged a certain strength of character that serves me well. And my two little girls, and boy to come, will grow up knowing and learning for themselves the differences are to be celebrated, not avoided or shunned.
I miss the days when music like this one had a special message behind it, where the lyrics of the song painted a picture for the listener and told a story unlike todays music.
We still have some good songs. Not in the same abundance than we used to have though. This is a very clever song. What's sad is that the metaphors are lost on most people.

I was six or seven when I first heard this song on the radio, and I think it's the first song I really had a genuine "adult" emotional reaction to. Even as a tiny l'il first grader I recognized something hauntingly beautiful about this song.

I am so in love with this song and the way he sings it. His voice has an ethereal quality, its raspy when he projects and this song has it all....... pain, a sad haunting quality, and a desperation that is both provocative and passionate. I LOVE the melody and the emotional quality of this song and the way he sings it. Its pure perfection.
This song reminds me of 1992 summer when I was 13, and it was grey outside in a town 23 miles north of Seattle. It reminds me of my dad taking me and my brother camping and looking out the window and having so much to look forward to. I miss being a kid soooooo bad.
I'd forgotten this song until I heard it in a store just last week. My ears perked up and it was instant "Oh, yeah!" What a great song. Lyrical, haunting, amazing.
My father recently told me that I loved this song when I was around three years old. Apparently I liked most of the music he listened to and kept on dancing, but this song must have been my favorite, he said. I'm 33 now and happy that he got me to “rediscover“ this beautiful song. Thanks, Papa! :-)
Same mate even though the tragic side is fictional I relate to a lot of the lyrics? Its a song of reflection and it is brilliant so I am happy people don't mind hearing it. Thankyou to everyone who has been giving wonderful comments about the songs that I have been playing. Bless you all 🙏
When Marx sings the line "I think about my life gone by, how it done me wrong...there's no escape for me this time..all of my rescues are gone"..its sound like he is breaking down and weeping. The rest of the song is him trying to keep his cool. A truly sad song indeed
I know exactly how you feel (although about 20 years earlier). I grew up with early 70s catchy pop ditties and then heard "Vincent" by Don McClean. It was like listening to poetry put to music.
My mother came to Hazard when I was just seven Even then the folks in town said with predjudiced eyes That boy's not right Three years ago when I came to know Mary First time that someone looked beyond the rumors and the lies And saw the man inside We used to walk down by the river She loved to watch the sun go down We used to walk along the river And dream our way out of this town No one understood what I felt for Mary No one cared until the night she went out walking alone And never came home Man with a badge came knocking next morning Here was I surrounded by a thousand fingers suddenly Pointed right at me I swear I left her by the river I swear I left her safe and sound I need to make it to the river And leave this old Nebraska town I think about my life gone by And how it's done me wrong There's no escape for me this time All of my rescues are gone, long gone I swear I left her by the river I swear I left her safe and sound I need to make it to the river And leave this old Nebraska town
Thank you for taking the time to write out the words. It tells story but one that I still don't think after all these years is clear to a lot of people. Beautiful to listen to anyway.
- "Answer the question!" - "I didn't date her." - "You didn't date her? She made you jealous, didn't she?" - "Alright, sheriff, what's the point?" - "THIS is the point. Do you recognize this? How did you tie this 'round Miss Mary's neck?"

i wonder why it was NOT a hit, this song needs to be revisited on music channels, maybe the gen y gen z trend it
@@gordongekko3174 what you saying about these gens? That you think they'll promote it? I'm surprised you think that. Like on some dumb TikTok videos to ruin it?
@@sowhat... See these days we have to adapt to the current gen and the trends they do, a lot of songs voluntarily or involuntarily are coming back because the z y gens are using it in some stupid video, I am looking at the positive side atleast that highlights awesome songs like these which otherwise people won't know.
@@gordongekko3174 they say there's no such thing as bad promotion. They're wrong. Maybe you're too positive. Who cares if people don't find out anyway? Especially if it's not in a good way. One of the most underrated and underplayed songs of the 90s. Such a great song
This song is dedicated to my sister. I remember she wanted to listen to this song on repeat when it came on about 20 years ago. How time flies. I miss you
❤
Cant believe it has been 28 years since this song was released. Love it still in 2023.
28? I think 32 years ago, 1991...
Absolutely amazing, first time viewing the video in 2023
Nee too❤

I want to go back so bad
Richard's wife once asked him what he was writing and he told her that it was probably the worst thing he'd written and he would dispose of it. She asked him to sing it for her. When Richard had finished, his wife offered her opinion which was that it could be the best he's written so far. Thanks to Richards wife for saving this wonderful classic. It's not only one of the best songs I've heard in my 68 years on this earth but it's a story of human behaviour that we must never excuse but sadly have to accept as being among us until the end of time.

I was there too.
He’s playing Dublin in 2023 my mother is a big big fan I’m thinking tickets for his concert would be a great Xmas present??
Saw him live in Sofia, Bulgaria in August. Amazing voice for his age, jokes, he even sang a couple songs he wrote for other artists that I had no idea were his! Definitely worth watching him live.
Just saw Richard Marx live tonight and he sang this song just as beautifully as he did back then ❤️

Perhaps one of the most haunting songs ever made
This one and a country song called The Rose.
Right? What a weird sucky premise
This song and Phil Collins, In the Air Tonight (I hate that song and refuse to listen to it in the car because whilst taking Drivers Ed that song, Danger Zone and I’ve Had The Time of My Life were the soundtrack to the State Police accident video they showed).
Truth.
It's between this one and Ode to Billy Jo.
Richard Marx' darkest and greatest song.
I agree!

Yes, yes, it really is!

yes -i agree !!its also sad that he split with cynthia rhodes-- she was so pretty and talented --she's the one from dirty dancing (the dance instructor)
Same thing I am thinking. It was non-stop during this time in 1992.
The year I graduated high school 1992
Such masterpieces are not written anymore... Love 80's and 90's
Yes they are AND they're written by Richard Marx! ♥️🔥
They are still being written, and still being sung. But they are no longer being marketed. Autotune is what sells now and it’s sad and soulless. But great songwriters still exist and are still perfecting their craft, they are just not so widely distributed by the profit oriented music industry anymore.
Listen to Mac DeMarco… now THAT is an artist. There’s plenty of amazing music now, it just appeals to younger generations!
Haunting
Music like this is really hard to find these days! Those era of music was amazing! We need more this kind of music❤️ welcome to 2024
Sou brasileira tenho 42 anos e amo demais as músicas do Richard Marx...❤
Xheliz mmmm tell me more things you remember from the age of 1.
gunner gallian Obviously I didn't remember it on my own, growing up I was shown videos of this party but it was when all this technology wasn't available and the tape was in VHS so I haven't watched it in years! But I always remembered the melody
Xheliz i was just talking to a person before you about feeling and remembering pain as an infant and he was deluded. He said he remembers things from when he was one. So i came to this video and saw your comment and thought ooo not again. But yeh it makes sense with you but that guy was a nut
gunner gallian Hahah it's okay I understand it sounded a little nutty. But it was a long story short and I could've have expressed myself better.
U r correct. His songs are soothing, soulful & timeless...it seems like it is hard to get recognition for genuine thing in real world...
Maybe because most of his hits were in the 80's🤷🏻♀️
True
And I still have some of his songs recorded on a flash drive in my car
This song never gets old with me - who's is with me to 2024

Absolutely one of the saddest and most haunting songs I have ever come across in my 45 years of life. For some reason, I am drawn to sad, haunting stories and Melodies like this. In my opinion, this is the best song he ever wrote. I remember listening to this when I was back in high school, and feeling like it applied to my life in some respects. I have lived with a disability for virtually my whole life, and I have always felt like an outsider and an outcast, even among the people who should be most accepting and understanding. And so this song has always had a special place in my heart.
I hear you. "Prejudiced eyes" resonates with my own experiences, its hard when you don't fit with the norm.
You are NOT an outcast. You are a human being. Please know that you are desperately needed in this world..

"Hazard"
My mother came to Hazard when I was just seven
Even then the folks in town would say with prejudiced eyes
"That boy's not right"
Three years ago when I came to know Mary
First time that someone looked beyond the rumors and the lies
And saw the man inside
We used to walk down by the river
She loved to watch the sun go down
We used to walk along the river
And dream our way out of this town
No one understood what I felt for Mary
No one cared until the night she went out walking all alone
And never came home
Men with a badge came knocking next morning
Here was I surrounded by a thousand fingers suddenly
Pointed right at me
I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town
I think about my life gone by
And how it's done me wrong
There's no escape for me this time
All of my rescues are gone, long gone
I swear I left her by the river
I swear I left her safe and sound
I need to make it to the river
And leave this old Nebraska town

I am so in love with this song and the way he sings it. His voice has an ethereal quality, its raspy when he projects and this song has it all....... pain, a sad haunting quality, and a desperation that is both provocative and passionate. I LOVE the melody and the emotional quality of this song and the way he sings it. Its pure perfection.
This song reminds me of 1992 summer when I was 13, and it was grey outside in a town 23 miles north of Seattle. It reminds me of my dad taking me and my brother camping and looking out the window and having so much to look forward to. I miss being a kid soooooo bad.

When Marx sings the line "I think about my life gone by, how it done me wrong...there's no escape for me this time..all of my rescues are gone"..its sound like he is breaking down and weeping. The rest of the song is him trying to keep his cool.

- "I didn't date her."
- "You didn't date her? She made you jealous, didn't she?"
- "Alright, sheriff, what's the point?"

Such a haunting perfect worded representation a very important part of my life
