Great selections as usual. I'm listening to Bridgette McWilliams now and it's excellent. Her earlier album also sounds worthy of investigation. All the best

I started to watch this last night. But my weekend business got me to the exhausted point. So I made a note on where I left off and here we go. >< I was just listening to the late great Eddie Hazel's 'Games, Dames & Guitar Thangs'. I did not know that he played on that Chairman Of The Board album. >< Have not listened to Ian Dury in years. >< IU did see the 'Cat Under The Stairs' Garcia solo tour in Feb of 1980 at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. The show was very mellow from start to finish. I am sure you remember his backup performer. Her name was Rachel Sweet. A few months later I saw him with The Dead at Boston Garden. Ah yes. Terrapin Station. My all time favorite Dead album. Estimated Prophet. Nothing better. It was written in septuple time. Weir's best vocal on any Dead album. Just fantastic. Outstanding share session guys. Have a super week Mark and John~

Hi Rob. The Orpheum is such a lovely venue! Would love to have seen Jerry there. Sadly he never came to the UK with the JGB and he was never touring when I was in the US. I did however take a diversion from a work trip to see the Dead in 1989 in Philly. I really hoped to get a Terrapin and I got one! Been fun this year to think back on the 1972 Europe tour. I even ended up on an episode of the Deadcast talking about the Lyceum gigs. Hope that you're very well. Must be starting to get cold there.

@@omniversal7 Hi John. It is starting to get colder here. We had a few 30° nights recently. As soon as it starts to go under 32° at night it usually means that the awful snowy stuff is around the corner. I can honestly get through the winter cold. But I am not in any way, shape or form a fan a snow, sleet, ice and whatever else the winter skies dump upon New England. >< You mentioned The Orpheum. Have you ever seen a show there? Better still. Did I ever ask you if you have been to Boston?

@@Paneeks1960 Hi Rob - Yes been to Boston a few times. Great city! Last in 2005 when we saw Nickel Creek at the Orpheum and I think I also before in the 90s (Ani DiFranco I think). I was usually in Boston for work but often stayed longer. Quite a few other New England links. One of my oldest friends comes from Springfield and I had a friend who lived for a while just over the border in Vermont.

John and Mark, thank you for another great dispatch from across the Pond. I love going ''backwards'' with Zappa and the Beatles. I first learned about The Chairmen Of The Board through their vocalist, General Johnson. He had a hit in 1961 with ''It Will Stand'' recorded by his band, The Showmen. I have the Holland- Dozier- Holland box set with the Chairmen covering ''Give Me Just A Little More Time''. Is ''Skin I'm In'' a Sly Stone cover song? Thank you for mentioning Goodrick and Downie! I love all the work Mick did with Gary Burton on ECM, ''Ring'' is excellent but on somedays I might prefer ''Dreams So Real'' featuring the tunes of Carla Bley. Goodrick also adds spice to Haden and Bley's Liberation Orchestra's ''Ballad of the Fallen'' and ''Dream Keeper'' recordings. Goodrick's ECM album '' In Pas(s)ing'' has alluded me but I've heard the track ''Feebles, Fables, Ferns'', it's on a Jack Dejohnette ECM compilation. Tyrone Downie also worked with The Tom Tom Club and so many others. Grace Jones wrote ''My Jamaican Guy'', which is a song about Tyrone Downie. The song ''Passengers'' co-written by Phil Lesh is a nice deep track on ''Terrapin Station'', the live version of ''Passengers'' on the ''Dead Set'' album from the early 1980's is a beauty. John Martyn's ''Piece By Piece'' album is another late-period masterwork.

Hi Michael. Agree that it's a close call between Dreams So Real and Ring. Mick is great with the Liberation Music Orchestra. Sadly he was missing the only time I saw them in France. Also need to track down In Pas(s)ing! Played Dead Set the other day. Good Brokedown Palace, Candyman and Friend of the Devil on there too. Not a popular album but I quite like it!

@@michaelvalentini4869 A Gibbs box set would be very nice! He was the first big band I ever saw and went on to a number of their gigs in the early 70s. My favourite of all the UK big bands I think. Great textures. Probably the closest to Gil Evans? I hadn't realised how much extra material was on the Dead Set deluxe CD! I thought it was just Space that was added.. D'oh ....
