@apollodonatello3975 sometimes when the referee is too strict, they change the shirt number using medical tape (whatever they have on field) to match the player's number but usually it's not necessary

Absolutely true, but after checking the VAR, the goal was accepted.
The main reason for having the video check is to not stop the action, but the ref has the last decision to accept or cancel any goal, as of my modest understanding.
