    Hey Pal, I know this is a late comment to an old video, but first off, sorry to hear about your difficulty that caused you to have to sell your guns. I trust that that time has passed.
    Next, way back in 2004, I purchased a Kahr P9 Covert, a model they only made for about two years. It featured the short grip frame of the PM9, and the slide of the full-size P9. I found this to be a great combination, because I could pocket carry it with the flush fit 6 round magazine, or pop in an extended 7 rounder and have a full sized grip for holster carry. I found the gun to be extremely accurate, and as an old-time revolver competitor, loved the Kahr trigger. So, I carried my Glock 19 on-duty, backed up by a Glock 26 on my anke, and my Kahr off-duty. I was happy.
    Fast forward to 2015-16 when the Glock 43 came out. At that time I owned a shooting school, so I bought one because so many students asked about it. I tested it relentlessly, and found no real flaws in it for what it was intended to be. I did find it too light and snappy for my new students, but too be fair, so was my little Kahr. There was nothing wrong with the Glock 43, I just found that if offered no real advantages over the Kahr, which I had already amassed quite a few magazines and holsters for. So, for personal carry, I just stayed with what I had. Also, I had also purchased a Shield, and found that new people did much better with it than either the slightly smaller Glock or the Kahr.
    To this day, I just never found anything that worked materially better for me, enough so that I wanted to switch. I stuck with my larger Glocks for duty use, and the Kahr for anything else. But when I was still working as a police officer, I qualified twice a year using the Kahr as well, on the duty gun course out to 25 yards, and never shot below Expert with it. It was a bit harder to do that with than with my duty Glock, but it was useful to me to know that I could.
    Having researched thousands of shootings by civilians, I don't much care about the increased capacity of the newer micro-9's, as long as I carry a spare magazine for the Kahr. Now that I am retired, that same Kahr P9 I bought in 2004 still rides on my hip in 2022. To this day, I have never had a malfunction with it of any kind, but I only feed it top quality ammunition. It goes everywhere with me.
    I have nothing against the other choices, and even own quite a few of them for students to shoot in the classes I still sometimes teach, but for my own use, I am a firm believer that "if it ain't broke, don'f fix it." Cheers!

    Tell you a neat little upgrade for the CM or CW pistols. Buy the PM9 black slide release lever and install it on your CM9. The PM lever is hardened steel machined I believe. The C series is metal injection molding. Nothing wrong really with MIM but the machined lever looks great and is tougher by nature. And the black lever really adds to the looks of this model.

Kahr suggests a 200 round break-in period. But I won't carry any gun until I've put 1000 rounds through it. I consider that my familiarization period.

      I did have my butterflies in the stomach at first with my CW9. I never owned a gun that needed to be broken in until Kahr and boy was my CW9 a jamomatic!! First 50 rounds had several fails to feed with just standard ball. Around the 100 round mark had several fails to feed again and was loosing confidence. After about 250 to 300 rounds and me raking it and dry firing it at home after my disapointing break in range day. The next time I went out which had several hundred racks of the slide thereafter. I have not had any issues with my CW9. Even me racking the slide without sling shoting its still feeds the rounds. I am happy and want the 40 and 45 to plink around with.

    • @jeffhreid
      @jeffhreid Před 3 lety

      I think this is a bit of an urban legend that keyboard commandos like to spread around. It is always a good idea to practice with a carry piece. A break in period is so the shooter becomes familiar with the gun . Kahr is not sending out guns from the factory that are unreliable, this make no business sense

    • @CheifDegenerate
      @CheifDegenerate Před 3 lety

      @@jeffhreid Kahr pistols are notorious for being extremely still from the factory.
      Yes the "break-in period" is mostly for people to become familiar with their firearms. But with Kahr pistols you can expect about half a dozen failures (to extract or feed) in the first half of the 300 round break-in period.
      It's not that the pistol is "unreliable", it's that the recoil springs used by Kahr are extremely stiff. Big name companies like Glock have a machine that fires 200-400 rounds through the guns before being sent to a distributor or they use lighter weight springs. Kahr doesn't have that. And they make it in a way that is supposed to give it as much longevity as possible without having to replace parts for anything other than user error.

    CM9 has been my EDC for 3 years. I have over 3200 rounds through, with the following experience. At 170 rounds, had a fail to feed. 675 a fail to feed. Around 1300 the end of the recoil spring came off at a range session. Kahr sent a new recoil spring, they had improved the bevel on the end. 1900 rounds since, not a single malfunction. The only way this could be more reliable would be if it were a revolver. Yes, when new it is very tight to disassemble. I would use a chopstick to hold the breech back to line up and push the pin through. Now it is very easy. Don't try and run the slide on this gun. Kahr says to load from open breech locked back. It's a conceal gun, if you don't want to run with one in the chamber this is not your gun. The only time I have ever had to rack it was on a malfunction, which very rarely, if ever happens. The trigger pull reminds me of my Smith & Wesson Model 19 in double action. Sweet. Easily concealed 19 oz loaded. Deadly from 10 yds in rapid fire, less recoil than a Taurus TCP .380 I owned.

The kahr also tore my hand up even with talon rubberized grip tape. The gun is a pain in the ass to disassemble and reassemble. If kahr can't resolve the issues I'm going to trade it in for a shield. Kahr expects you to clean the gun before breaking it in. They package new guns with anti-rust compounds which will seize up the action if not removed first. SURPRISE. That is why all the initial failures are happening. If you do the 200 round break-in required for a tightly machined pistol, you will get through this . . . My PM9 locked up at 100 rounds and I just took it home and cleaned it . . . there was some nasty reddish stuff blowing out of it . . . the rust inhibitors in original packing. This has given Kahr a bad rep in the biz . . . but that's all it is. It is a hard gun to handle, being so light weight . . . takes a firm hand . . . and I've shot both the PM9 and the K9. The polymers are going to kick.
