- After trying - and failing - to kill him via lethal injection, Alabama is planning to execute death row inmate Kenneth Smith next week using an untested method - nitrogen suffocation. But why are they resorting to this? And could he get a last minute reprieve?

Did the victim have the chance to appeal the method of her death?
Exactly
Right? Not to mention her death was certainly not humane.
I don't feel sorry for him or the people who feel sorry for him.
The victim gets no appeal. I have zero sympathy for this monster.
Why are you talking as if this man is a victim?
What he did was cruel and unusual punishment.🤷🏻
Because it says more about the punishers than the person being punished. Nobody cares about him.
So 2 wrongs make a right?

Nitrogen induced hypoxia has actually killed a lot of people. It’s especially dangerous for aviators, as it’s painless, which is why it’s so dangerous. You don’t even know you’re not getting enough oxygen with this inert gas. What they were talking about with shelter animals and such is mistaken for CO2, which is an irritant gas, and that would be painful.
Co2 is not painful. They goto sleep. It is the only humane way to euthanize certain animals like Rats, mice, small birds and other small animals
@@Nakiesrussphynxcattery CO makes a person feel lethargic and drowsy, often with a horrific headache, before succumbing to anoxia. CO2 is not the same experience!
@@lonnarheajexactly.
We really don’t know if it’s painless, unless we do it ourselves
Actually seen a close call, happened when somebody went to replace a beam line component (EO switch) in a mirror array room for a giant laser. The chamber was supposed to be purged with clean air and the tech was supposed to be wearing a scuba system. Well he wore a regular mask and forgot to purge it and dropped within about a minute. The security operator noticed and we fished him out. He said he felt woozy and everything went white, then woke up to EMTs. Now they use the buddy system and a belt clipped O2 alarm when working anywhere near these areas.😮
He stabbed and then used every implement in a fireplace set to beat his victim to death. At one point he noted that "she just wouldn't die" or something similar. Her defensive wounds were extreme, showing she fought as long, and as hard as she could to survive, but he kept beating her.
Thank you for the info
AND I HEARD THAT HE WAS THERE, BUT THE OTHER MAN DID THE KILLING!!! THIS HORROR SHOW IS NOT ABOUT HIS GUILT OR INNOCENCE NOW, IT'S ABOUT THE DEATH PENALTY BEING ADMINISTERED, IF EVEN AT ALL!!! THIS BEING A 2ND TIME AFTER 35 YEARS IS TORTURE!!! UNACCEPTABLE IN AMERICA!!!

That is a good question. I don't understand why. See my post above.
Please could someone tell me why is it that once people get incarcerated, all of a sudden they seem to find religion? Where was religion when they had freedom and were cout committing crimes?.
I think it is misleading to call this method "suffocation" - which implies considerable suffering. With inert gases, you don't feel a thing.
Is that what they tell you? Are you sure?

Doesn’t oxygen starvation ‘make you giddy’ then ‘pass out’? Sounds rather humane…. I may be missing a massive point of science here, please enlighten? Entonox is Nitrogen based and we give that to pregnant women?
It does that. Iv'e flown my plane at altitudes where hypoxia began to set in. I can say with certainty It makes one feel quite jovial. While I doubt that he would go out laughing, the descriptions I have heard of passengers and crew who perished due to failure of the pressurization system probably never realized it was happening . However as one who survived a pulmonary embolism I can say that a sudden interruption of oxygen supply is quite distressing . If you interpolate between those two data points you could conclude that a gradual reduction of oxygen wouldn't induce any additional distress
You are partially correct with what you say but Entonox is Nitrous Oxide so has sufficient Oxygen not to cause total suffocation which pure Nitrogen most certainly will.
All the stuff I've ever seen written about Nitrogen suffocation says it does not cause the body to register any distressed reactions like gases such as Carbon Dioxide would.
@@kwatt-engineer796and there's nitrogen narcosis experienced by scuba divers in depths from 30 meters. I've experience that. Makes you feel dopey and impairs cognitive and dexterity function. The deep depths compresses the nitrogen bubbles in the body that causes the narcosis. The nitrogen is in the air the diver breathes from the air cylinder. Air consists of around 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen from memory. I think it's called Boyle's law, that is, the effect of gas under pressure on the human body.
This is basic theory you learn in scuba diving coarse.
Curious...was your pulmonary embolism a diving injury?🤔

I have come across the same findings. I don’t know where nitrogen suffocation causing distress is coming from. It might in people with COPD, but that’s a small minority of the US population.
@@anjou6497 Wow. Do you think that the people who are murdered feel less distress as they're being shot or stabbed or beaten to death, than someone having a mask put over their face? Give me a break! Also, it's much different from being choked to death. The body does crazy things when the airway is restricted, and it's battling to draw a breath. This method allows someone to keep breathing until their brain shuts down and stops telling the lungs to breathe. First you lose consciousness, then the brain shuts down from lack of oxygen, and the lungs and heart follow immediately after. It really is quite humane if carried out properly, not that these people deserve to be treated any more humanely than their victims, but yeah.

If the nurse has a problem she will get an experienced phlebotomist or a doctor to do the necessary . But these executioner buffoons cant to that. Hence the occasional horror story
This is not going to happen!
Revolting. Absolutely barbaric
Not really, there is no suffering and calling it “suffocation” is totally misleading. There are some people whose crimes are so grievous or they are such a danger to society they have lost the right to live amongst us.
I do believe they should be allowed to choose their method. 80% of all executions in America take place in Texas where I live and we only have 2 scheduled for this year, the most executed in a year was in 2000 when 40 were executed. There are no last meals in Texas and it takes in average 18 years and 4 months to execute someone after being sentenced and I believe that’s wrong because by then you are not executing the same person. If the condemned deny all appeals it takes about 2 years but that doesn’t happen often. Solitary confinement on Death Row is inhumane, they used to be in general population where they worked and had access to education until 4 of them escaped in 1999 so now they are isolated and spend 23 hours a day in a cell by themselves. That’s inhuman, not execution, and some go completely insane after a few years on death row.
