wow! that last color you were able to achieve was absolutely beautiful! im doing this. i thought you had to use a torch, i didnt feel comfortable , looked so sketchy watching another channel showing how to anodize. all he used was a torch. seems like a power supply will be much more controlled and i probably wont get burned as bad. thank you so much for posting this content...
Awesome vid for those getting into modding or the person at home who just wants to do a few pieces. You guys totally rock and the skills are definately real. Thanks for a great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
A very nice tutorial. I always enjoy learning from someone who know their craft from experience it makes the tips and tricks that much better. Looking forward to the future videos. Great video 👍
Came across this channel looking for information on anodizing blades and this is very informative and down to earth, love it, liked, saved and downloaded for future reference . Thanks massively Knife Modders, you rock.
This video is looking good. Really like the intro and the the camera looks great, top notch professional quality. Obvisously the comunity is digging the content so I think this is a big success in the making. You guys are awesome. Also breaking it up in parts is genious to keep it under 30 mins.
Haha oooh yyeahh, luvin that blurple 💯💯going to have to try this on my Chavez. I would send it and get it done but I can’t bring myself to put it in the mail😂🤙thanks for the instructional this was real informative and very cool guys. This is f'ing awesome. I love stuff like this; how-to videos on woodworking, metal smithing, frickin' gardening, whatever, you know? Stuff I know a little about and can do myself after having it explained. Now, mind you, I'm not about to rip apart my McBee just yet, but some gears are turning (I just wonder when the next one of these comes out - ha, I guess I'm *s'posed* to wonder that... well played, Knife Modders). I dyed some raw (jade) g10 940 scales a couple few weeks ago with a way (IMO) underutilized color, and it turned out great. Don't have much more available raw g10 right now, but I do have a couple titanium knives... hmmm... Thanks, y'all!
hahah it will be coming soon, the next one will be uploaded this weekend! You should give anodizing a try, it's fun to do! That's awesome, what color did you dye your scales?
Thinking about do this on smaller titanium pieces that are shiny and will be rubbing against each other (kinda like marbles).. how durable is the anodizing? Thanks for your helpful video.
I know two ways. So, what is the difference between the colors by voltage which we don't always have the choice of the color we would like and colors by dye?
Having trouble locating this, but anodizing aluminum I know is a much more involved process. What should I expect to pay, to have a set of existing anodized aluminum handles stripped, and re-anodized, assuming surface of aluminum doesn't need blasted or anything?
What is different of low voltage colours like purple blue and upper voltage colours? In purple we have at low voltage 21 and upper voltage 67 what is exact difference between these colours?
Good afternoon, your power supply link is a 3ov unit. You stated that you were running 77v for the blurple color. Is there a link to the unit you are using?
I’m trying to use a paint brush to brush on the electrolyte on a large titanium sheet but it’s not working. It works for a smaller plate- do I not have enough voltage?
You mentioned that you are cold etching. The multi-etch video suggests mixing it double strength (less water) and then heating it once for room temp etching. Is this the method you use, or do you find that unnecessary? Thanks in advance, and thank you so much for what you do for the hobby!
i anadized a fountain pan and it turned blue when i turned up the watts the color came off and it never anadized again. i even tried a little whink to wash off the muck, but no luck. is that because it is low grade titianium or mixed with other metals or ?
Does anyone know if there is a company that you can send some metal parts to for them to anodize them? Like I guess I could do this on my own, but I would like to send them to a company.
@Knifemodders I have a rather serious question for you two, what do you use to mask the titanium if you do a pattern. I have used plumbers tape, electric tape, and different colors of painters tape. All have done okay but no crisp lines, basically you can see that the edges have popped up a bit. I have this new carbonfiber tape I'm about to try which seems like I will work well but the stuff ain't exactly cheap.
Awesome video!! I’m looking to do this on a Ti bike and have seen people attach the positive to the bike and the negative to a small piece of sponge to anodize specific parts of the frame. Any tips to make that work?
Hi Great video! I'm very new to anodizing and wondering if there are some cheap options for the titanium knifes that you use. Or that are easy to disassemble/few piece. Thank You!
Asher Knives has some good Titanium knives at a very good price, also check out Twosun Knives on Ebay, they're a Chinese company and they ship from overseas, they're build quality is amazing for the price!
have you tried using that titanium scrap to make any kind of cutlery with - your own personal forks, spoons & butter knives? or is it mostly for decorative crafts?
Yeah we have used the scrap Ti in the past to make pocket clips for some knives in our personal collection. But other than that, we typically just use them for experimental purposes
Does this work on other metals or just titanium? Where the piece is being hung by (Eg inside the hole where the wire hook is suspending it) is there a gap in the anodizing? Eg if I anodized a clip would I want to make sure it’s suspended from some non visible part?
This process is only for titanium, however steel can be heat anodized but it's not nearly as vibrant as titanium and there are fewer colors. The piece comes out fully anodized, where the wire touches the titanium piece or clip won't prevent it from anodizing.
Yes, the elctrolyte (baking soda) solution stays the same for both high voltage and low voltage. Put the titanium in etchent for desired amount of time, then remove and place in electrolyte solution
You can anodize high voltages without etchent if you want to, but it won't be anodized evenly. From what I've read, it's to remove the oxide layer that forms on contact with oxygen. The etchent allows for an oxide free surface finish, that's why you have to put it into the bath immediately after etching to keep the piece from oxidizing.
@@KnifeModders damn, is there any way to get it without paying $60 plus shipping? My new DC Power Supply was less than that. I am hoping there's a source that sells a smaller amount.

Hello,
it is too. Possible to color a titanium racing bike?
What about green? I thought that was one of the higher voltage colors?
With the power supply, do you find it beneficial to adjust the amps along with the voltage?
At what current do you start using the multi-etch before the anodize bath?
this is great. good work guys whats the next thing

Is this a problem? What am i doing wrong?

Modders rock
what did you use? to remove the color?
That was my biggest mistake in the beginning and didn't wait until it zeroed out and would constantly get varying colors.
I have problem buying material so I would like to ask what is the reason of etching?
You have to etch in order to achieve colors above ~50 volts
Awesome 👍👍. Do people send you pieces to anodize ?
Do you use the amperage control at all or do you leave it at zero? I never see anyone mention this in a tutorial..thanks!
Can you do a tutorial on how to do a shipwreck patina on copper scales? Great vid btw.
Yeah we we could definitely do that! Thats a great video idea
How would you ano hardware? Can you do multiple at one time?
Can the titanium wire be used over and over?
Yes

Very cool beans
If I were to ano the back spacer on my MBK Pinscher to a blue color, would I need to etch?
Nope! Only higher voltage colors require etching. Just make sure your backspacer is very clean before anodizing!
So I'm thinking about anodizing a integral I have, do I have to remove the lock bar insert?
Yes, you'll need to remove any steel on the knife; lockbar insert, stop pin
Sorry if I missed it, but if you are using the etchent does the annodizing bath still have the baking soda in it or is it just distilled water?
Yes, the elctrolyte (baking soda) solution stays the same for both high voltage and low voltage. Put the titanium in etchent for desired amount of time, then remove and place in electrolyte solution
@@KnifeModders Got it. Thanks for the quick reply.
What is reason for etching before high voltages? Couldn’t you just anodize without etchant
You can anodize high voltages without etchent if you want to, but it won't be anodized evenly. From what I've read, it's to remove the oxide layer that forms on contact with oxygen. @@raystupka3823 No, only when doing electrolytic!

We etch at 48v and above
Multi-Etch is $60, whereas Whinks is around $10. Is there a big difference?
There is quite a big difference in final finish. I would try whink first though and see how you like it.
