  • Our quick guide to how we look for Zircons in Mud Tank. Which is located off the Plenty Highway a short drive from Gemtree Caravan Park. The minimum you will need are a scraper, lots of water & a large bucket to wash them in, a dry bucket, 2 sieves (one cheap plastic & one metal) - we use a Willoughby, but you can still do this without one. You are looking for see through stones that are slightly brown like raw sugar lumps. You will also find apatite gems which are green/yellow and are also a cuttable gem (but very soft) - happy Zircon hunting :-). The fossicking protocol is when you leave for the day, but want to keep working a hole, you leave a bucket with a big stone on the top. If you don’t work a hole for 4 days, someone can take your hole.
