Happy new year, Helen. I’m glad you’ve had a good holiday & LOVE the little picture of the boats, all those cheerful yellows. Enjoy your art exploration in 2024!
Thanks so much for all of your lovely comments and support last year! Happy New Year!
"so many styles that I like...its hard to know what to focus on next..." Yes, yes yes, absolutely!!! I guess its better to be inspired by many different techniques and sources though. 😀 Happy New Year Helen!
I like your positive attitude!! Thank you - Happy New Year!
I enjoyed this relaxing video. All the best for 2024🎉

gorgeous work, happy new year 😊😊
Hello!! Thanks so much, and Happy New Year!
Welcome back! I love, love, love the top one of the two Neocolor II paintings in your yellow book. Nice Christmas gift haul. ❤🎉
Hi Panda! Thank you! I wasn't supposed to get back this early, but change of plan and ended up coming back with the boys! Hope you've had a decent time!
Happy New Year Helen and thank you for all your relaxing and inspiring art videos!
Thank you! I really appreciate you watching them! Happy New Year!
Thank you Helen for your very quick response on the filter app. A very happiest New Year wish for you
Thanks so much!! Happy New Year!
I recently moved house and have been slowly unpacking between some illnesses and I'm hoping I'm finally ready to make some art.
That's a lot to deal with! I really hope you get to that point very soon and thoroughly enjoy yourself!!
Love the judgy fish 🤪
Cool aren't they?!
That was fun! Was interested in the soft pastels because I’ve started adding them in to my watercolor work - after it’s dry, of course. I love the results but question myself as to whether I’m combining them to play with mixed mediums or am I trying hide my errors under pastels. The inner critic is shaking its finger at me screaming “cheating”. But I like the result. Enough about it. Thank you Helen for showing us your new toys!
That's the kind of thing I do with oil pastels and coloured pencils, and I also felt like it's cheating, but now I just don't care as much - my art is allowed to be whatever I want it to be!!!
Art is what you make of it, forget about rules!
@@Replicanna-rl6zg
I love that!! But of course! I think I’ll put a sign of those sentences where I can see it as a reminder. Thanks!
Thank you Helen. Nice - I am glad you had a good Christmas. I love your splodge 'technique' - I love the way you pull your landscapes together.
Thanks ever so much! Happy New Year!
I have a huge of Rembrandts from the days I worked in an art supply store. They are drawing with velvet… are used up very quickly but are gorgeous.
I think I'd have a huge amount of everything, if I'd worked in an art shop!!!
@@helencryer oh I did - I was there for some 2-3 years . I had it all. But there are some new things these days. I had a complete set of Rotring pens. Remember those?
😂 Yep, lots of lovely things! I didn't have Rotting pens, no - I had a few art supplies as a girl, and have only really got into art again in the past couple of years.
Lovely little video, something for everyone. I especially love your quick splodges; theres a beauty in its simplicity that's just perfect. The fish stickers, very cute lol
Thanks ever so much! Happy New Year!
Flame orange is one of my favourite colour inks, tho I’m not sure if you would have a lot of call for it. I’ve been away and have a lot of catching up to do!
I did think it looked nice though! Hope you've had a good time!
Glad you enjoyed Christmas. Happy New Year. Look forward to all your New Year videos, art equipment & book suggestions. Having cleared my dining room for Christmas no room to paint, hope to do some soon again.
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments and encouragement this year! Happy New Year, and I hope you get your art space back soon!
So beautiful work , your Note and new things arrived ❤🖼️🖍️
Thank you!!
Happy new year to you Helen lovely haul look forward to seeing you use the unison pastels and lovely books enjoy
Thank you! Happy New Year!
I love all your videos, but art hauls depress me because I'm jealous😅
You really utilize your sketch books well. It's inspiring to see how much even a small piece of art can inspire.
There will definitely be fewer this year (but I'm not promising none!!) Thank you!
@helencryer I live near a Dick Blick store. I go in there, and I get giddy. There is so much, and the smell of all those art supplies and the colors get in trouble! Lol!!
I'll be watching even though I get jealous. It's fun to see what others purchase.
It's a very good job I don't live near an art shop!!
I love my Safari Lamy fountain pen for sketching. Putting a filter on your photographs are a great idea and one to try in 2024. Lovely artwork in your sketchbook. Happy New Year. 🙏💜
Thank you! I'm very excited about the filter idea - you can really simplify photos in interesting ways for inspiration!
Your videos are always so much fun to watch and your paintings inspiring, so thank you and Happy New Year to you!
Thank you so much! And to you!!
. Happy New Year, thanks for all the great vids this year
Thanks ever so much!! Thank you for watching and Happy New Year!
I love the “Judgy Fish” sticker book, very funny 😂. Am going to treat myself to D/R inks, primaries to start with,🤔 they do look fun and also a Lamy pen.
Ooo, lovely! Happy New Year!
Ohhhh, I need to try a filter on some of my photos… what a great idea! Sounds like you had a very busy holiday week, surprised you had any time for art while you were away! Lovely new supplies; the pastels are so tiny and cute 😊.
I really hope I remember to use the filters more - wonderful for when you're learning to extract and simplify details from photos, in my opinion!
Helen I was very interested in your use of a filter on your photograph of boats. Can you please give directions to a novice of how you achieved that filter. Loved your painting of the
boats using the filter.
You would need to download the app called 'Painnt' to your phone - search for it in your device's app store, and follow the instructions within the app. I used the filter called Bart Soul.
Hi Helen, I love you reviews the Quiomei pan set review was the best I seen from many artist. I just recently bought the pan set thanks to your beautiful review. Happy New Year!
Hi, Happy New Year! Thanks so much - that's very gratifying!
Some interesting books and supplies Helen. I’m particularly interested in the phone app. Thanks! 🐨👍
Thanks! I think the app is definitely a great for tool for extracting different information from photos!
great collection of books
I think I'm going to enjoy them!
The Qiaomei brand is said to be artists quality, not so sure about that, but they do look rich. In trying to find them at first I fell across a site and found a book of 20 100% cotton fine grain pages in a block for a total of £7.13. So I bought one, but I don't know whether it's coming from China or Spain. 🤔 Just seemed like a bargain, but we'll see.
Damn it, you do get me buying stuff that I said I no longer would. 🤗
Haha!! I'm keen to hear about your new block! I'll have a proper play with the new Qiaomei set later. Happy New Year!
Really great haul, I got how to be an artist recently but haven’t started it. I’m also interested in multiple medium so I spend a lot of money and time trying to get used to something new. I’d love to try water-mixable oils! :)
Ways of Drawing is a gorgeous book.
I'd be interested to hear what you think of it. I think because I don't really feel like an artist that some of the thoughts and ideas are a bit over my head. Not that I don't understand them, just that I don't relate to them as much. Haha - you sound like me in that regard!!
@@helencryer let’s make a club Helen! Artsy people who love playing with art supplies but still don’t feel like artists.
😂 Deal! I think that's basically the gist of my whole CZcams!
@@helencryer not going to lie I have thought of starting my own art channel just to find community 🥲. I feel lost between artists and non artists.
It's honestly an issue I have been thinking quite a bit about lately, and want to look at in more detail. It kind of depends on what the definition of an artist is. That varies a lot, so I've been thinking about a definition that I'm happy with, then deciding if I fit that, and if not, do I want to work towards that, and do I have the potential for that.
Welcome back , Helen , I've been suffering from HC withdrawal for the past few days there is just so much Mrs Browns Boys that flesh and blood can tolerate . Happy 2024 to you . Mike in Exeter xx
Haha, thanks! I had to Google Mrs Browns Boys (I'm not very up on TV stuff!) and I'm full of sympathy for you! Happy New Year!
Did you say water soluble oil paint? Is that a thing?
Yes! Here's the video I made on my Winsor & Newton ones, plus a few other brands do as well.
czcams.com/video/CiyDubE_osI/video.html
I asked for some unison pastels for my birthday. I’m yet to draw anything with them as they are a little scary….how silly is that!!
I'm always finding different aspects of art scary!!! Have you tried swatching them yet?
@@helencryer yes, I did swatch them and were so lovely.
As usual enjoyed your haul video! Love seeing differwnt comparisons between similar products. I have a couple if Lamt Fountain Pens and quite enjoy them too!
Susan in Az❤️🏜️
Thank you!
