This is a special video in tribute to miss Grace Jones. I've always been interested in Grace Jones' presence. She is a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. She's bold. She's avant-garde. She's a visionary. Everything your faves have done, Grace Jones probably did it first. (I exaggerated that, but that's just to show how ahead-of-her-time Grace Jones is). And I just enjoy what she has contributed to the scene of music.
With her famed androgynous style, she really happens to have a voice that complements it. She has a well developed lower register. It's weighty and remains solid until the very deep of her range. She utilizes this range frequently and the voice matures in favor for the lower register. She definitely knows how to mix and that shows in some unexpected high belting moments.
Unfortunately, her belting voice has taken on a drier, coarser quality in later years. Some of the factors might due to her not being only into singing. Beside singing, she acts, she models, she takes part in different art ventures. So singing and preserving the voice might not be the first priority for her, I assume. Regardless, she possesses a unique voice and knows how to use it in her favor, and through that, making her one of the most recognizable figures in the music industry.
This video can only highlight one aspect in Grace Jones' iconic career. But she has so many more other things going on with her, what make her one of the most influential artists, and help inspire so many artists after her: Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, Rihanna, Janelle Monáe... And the list goes on.
