If they have a chance, refugees go west, not east. This is hostage taking.

No one is forcing them to stay there. To be honest what would the Russians do? If they stayed in Ukraine many of them would get killed. Considering I'm from Yugoslavia we had similar corridors from Bosnia to Serbia and Croatia. Many went there even though they wanted to go somewhere else. And many wanted to go there. Of course that is now shown in this Documentary.
It's not like you can pick and choose during a war. If there are proof that they are held there by force, than it is a problem. We can think what we want about the war and Russias role in it. But be honest, it's not like these people are in a prison hungry?

Hostage taking? Are there guns pointed at their heads? Are there any guards assigned to watch for them? Are their hands or feet cuffed?

What a moron you are, talking about things you don't know. Majority of people from Eastern Ukraine go to Russia. Should I tell you why? Or I guess you will just say it's all russian misinformation lol

@Gary Cooper • The people in Mariupol weren't given a choice. There have been interviews with other Ukrainians from Mariupol who have made it out of Russia. Not only weren't the Ukrainians given a choice between evacuating to Russia or to unoccupied Ukraine, when they were sent to Russia, they were given no choice where. Some were sent to Siberia. Some Ukrainians were sent all the way to Vladivostok.
This is not the first report on Russian volunteers helping Ukrainians although it is the most in-depth one that I've seen.

Russia and Russians will suffer long after this atrocity they call a special operation is over. This couple have my upmost sympathy for what they have been through. If Russia continues I see more ex soldiers such as myself finding no other way, but to join the Ukrainian military.
