This is just one reference there are on many occasions Chennai crowds have given standing ovation whoever performs be it Indian or any other team players. Chennai crowd is known to knowledgeable crowd.

1997 Saeed Anwar hit a mammoth 196 vs India at Chennai - Chennai crowd stood up and appreciated clapping the Pakistan team.
1999 Pakistan team pulled an insane comeback test win at Chennai - Chennai crowd again stood up and appreciated the team.. Wasim Akram mentioned how shocked he was to see Indian crowd appreciating a Pakistani performance..

They should have won this as MI had a mental edge over CSK over all these years. CSK would have almost started to believe they can't beat MI in a final. If they had won this match, that would have changed things for CSK.
That is Chennai. It has a big heart and city of true cricket fans. We went in applause for Pakistan team when they went on a victory lap after beating India at Chepauk. I was there in that crowd applauding the effort of Pakistan team. It was a tight game and they won by a few runs (think 13 or 14 runs separated the teams at the end of the match.

Big part of the credit should go to Chennai fans! We fans love the sport and appreciate good performances even if it comes from the rival. Otherwise how would you explain Chennai crowd applauding a hard-fought Pak victory in Jan'99?
The reasons why CSK has been very successful over the years is 1. The CSK management who provided the overall atmosphere 2. The Coaches and the support staff 3. MSD - the captain cool and his ability to finish critical matches 4. the quality of the players. Many people have acknowledged that CSK is not a team but a family. I think this is the most important reason why CSK were able to be this successful.
Honestly speaking csk were not the favorites for this IPL they were not strong on paper but still they managed reaching the finals and were in a position of winning it. Also mentioning we were missing lungi ngidi who was a great wicket taking option . But we fans will keep supporting you till our last breath.
