- One thing that we’ve discovered while be in Malaysia is that Malaysians are an extremely diverse group of people. Besides the ethnic Malay, Indian, and indigenous Dayak groups, Chinese immigrants have had a huge impact on the country.
So as we ride our KTM 250 Adventure motorcycle across East Malaysia, we discover the extent of the Chinese influence in Sarawak. And as a stunning and fascinating back drop to our explorations, we visit one of the largest Chinese Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia.

Mukah is the cultural heartland of Melanau ethnic group and were formally Animists (some elders still are 😅). they still have spooky remnants of the Totem/burial poles etc.
small suggestion tho, perhaps you can also show more interactions with the locals eg ordering meals, asking for directions or just some random conversations 😁

Chinese arrived in "nanyang" 600 years ago. Chinese junk reached terengganu in 14xx. There was no malaysia then. China called this part of the world "nanyang". They then set sail reaching the famous port of melaka. Therefore straits of melaka was used for the name of the straits.

The temple has never been described as "Buddhist", has only a token representation of indigenous "Buddhism", is predominantly "Taoist". Then again, it has never been used for mass worship of either Buddhism or Taoism. You can't even get anyone to teach you anything about the rituals for the worship of either. There's hardly anyone who visits the place. The person who collected the funds for the building (one of several in Sarawak) is a local fortune-teller with his own cult. He is called the "Sun Deity"... Praise be, Alhamdulilah, and Amen! Oh! Beam me up too..!
There are many religions that all live together happily in this part of the world. We respect that a lot as that is not the case in so many different parts of the globe.
