I just ordered the mk2 for an upcoming deco class, haven't received it yet, but for some reason I assumed the mk1 would just have less, but that doesn't appear to be so. Maybe I could have saved a few hundred (I have no interest in air integration). It does look gorgeous though, I can't wait until it arrives.
I would say the only reason you would really want to upgrade is if you value the better HR monitor and the pulse ox sensor other wise its just a bigger MK1
Im just starting to dive i was supposed to start a few months ago but my in paper test has been cancelled because of covid. i have been debating getting a dive watch and i had my eyes on these two watches, would you recommend these to a new diver and how long will they last me?
Aloha Kaden. It really depends on your budget and what you're looking for in a watch. Garmin's Descent watches are great at doing lots of things but they are much pricier than a watch that only does freediving. Give us a call @ (808)464-6584 and we can discuss your options. We are bringing a new TUSA watch in that has many of the features of the higher end watches at a fraction of the price. You can also e-mail us at info@konafreedivers.com
My question is this: what is the life of the battery in a watch like this? I’m asking that as I really like this model. That said, you have to invest a lot of money and I would like to know if you can take it to any place to change it when the time comes.
My MK1 battery lasts about 10 days with no diving and 2 days if I do 6-7 hours of diving a day so this model should do 2x that because the battery is 2x the size. It recharges quite fast and you'll have most of your charge in a hour.
Hi, I have a mk1, the only reason I wanted to upgrade to the mk2i is because iss has a transmitter. I like having everything on my wrist. Feeling I'm super. Hahah. One of best features is the tides chart and dive site discoverable within the area. Perhaps if you can review on those topics and personally tell me if it is worthwhile to upgrade for the mk2i
Aloha leeroy. The dive site discoverability is easy. You can just use the garmin dive app on your phone. The tides is an app you can download from the garmin app store. The transmitter is a great feature but will cost you another $500 dollars and won't be available for another couple of weeks.
17.5cm but if you want a smaller watch garmin now makes the MK2s! shop.konahonudivers.com/shop/Dive-Computers/Wrist-Computers/p/Garmin-Descent-MK2S-x57818336.htm
I went to buy the watch at the local dive shop and the watch is absolutely massive. Bigger than the Fenix 6X or Delta Tactix. Way to big for me, I couldn't pull the trigger.
Aloha Eugene! Absolutely. It works great as a daily wearer. You're going to get the most use out of it when you are not diving because of all of the smart watch functions. It will monitor your exercise and your sleep as well. There's even an app to monitor your liquid consumption!
Aloha Carter. The MK1 and MK2 are smartwatches that do things like monitor your heart rate with a fitness app and tell you how you slept. If you value the functions of a full function smartwatch with GPS capabilities the MK watches are a superior choice. There's nothing else like them.
I have been using an air integrated computer for 20+ years and thousands of dives with no failure, meanwhile before that I had several spa failures. Get with the times!
@@konafreediversreviews1175 until I had a computer that shows the battery life remaining I changed it every 6 months to 1 year depending on how many dives I did in that time. Now my computer lets me know how much life I have left and I always have a spare in my emergency kit. That is probably why I have never had a dead battery, I have had an spg pop the bourdon tube when I turned the air on before, that was before ai computers.

@@konafreediversreviews1175 It will be great to have the oxygen saturation level for each apnea dive! Do you know if it is recorded in the Garmin Dive app?
Lost me at do not recommend AI. You do not have to have an SPG, that said, you should have an SPG and an AI for redundancy. So tired of old school not seeing the future. AI is just as reliable as SPG now. Not to many APPS. This is what people want these days, eye candy. 4 Years ago a Suunto D9i was a $1799 dive computer in the US. It did nothing special. Great video! I have a mk1, and absolutely love the watch.
Right on! Me too! It's hard to justify upgrading because the 1st one is so good!

Aloha Martin. You won't have to charge it as frequently and the screen is bigger so you're definitely getting more in the MKII
That last comment: Would I upgrade from the MK1 to the newer MK2? I dunno, maybe not. That’s why I came here. Thanks!

Would you say with fading eyes the MK2 is much easier to read than the MK1 on dives please?
Yes, the MK2 has a bigger display and increased resolution!
What’s the difference in apnea and apnea hunt in features
Great question. Apnea hunt is for spearfishing and it will vibrate but it turns off the audible alarms so as not to scare the fish. Silent Hunting
I enjoyed your review. I wonder what your wrist size is.

I want to see the brightness underwater VS other computers
Thanks mr car. It's easy to read if there's ambient light. It has a backlight for night time/shade. Pretty easy to see.

Hehe. Yeah, it's chunky. We just had some women buy them though! I would recommend the MK1 if size is an issue. It gets 10 days on a charge!
Have you seen the new MK2s? Smaller and cheaper

That would be sweet!
Is the garmen descent MK1 battery changeable and what is its life span?
Thx 🌹🌺👍
It can be changed by Garmin. Not sure yet, they're only been on the market for 3 years or so.
Which one is better between MK1/2 vs Teric of Sharewater?

Do they have touch screen? Or is it just mk2 is sensitive for tapping to switch screens as you show?
It is only tapping sensitive. The controls are done with 5 buttons and are very easy and intuitive. I love how easy it is to navigate the menus.
I have been using an air integrated computer for 20+ years and thousands of dives with no failure, meanwhile before that I had several spa failures. Get with the times!
Aloha Michael. We regularly have guests on our boats with dead batteries in their transmitter. Meanwhile pressure gauges can't run out of batteries!

It's a good video but it doesn't help when you mix up the names of the models :)
Can I connect a transmitter to MK2 or it is just supported in MK2i?

At 1:28 you mention "MK1i" !? Am confused... I think you meant Mk2i...
You are correct sir! It is confusing! They sound so similar!!
how i use freedive mode on mk2i
Push select (top right button) then scroll to the apnea mode or the spearfishing mode and then push select again and you're set.
I take it that the heart rate monitor won't work if it's worn over a wetsuit or drysuit. Right?
That is correct Oren. It also has a pulse ox sensor but I'm not sure how that works underwater
You can wear a swim hrm from garmin for that information.

Tristan Henry do we have the oxygen saturation function at the MK1 also?
Unfortunately, there is no translation for the video, so I cannot benefit from it even though it seems to be full of useful information
