How colonialism objectified and otherised the hijab

  • On April 4, 2021, France banned the headscarf for anyone under the age of 18. But the western conception of the ‘veil’ goes back to the European colonisation of the Middle East, and even further before that.

The votes do NOT mean that the ban will become law yet. *Most likely the law will never be passed.* only in French public schools wearing of ALL religious symbols are banned since 2004. This already bans Islamic (hijabs, niqabs), Christian (veil, cross jewelry), Sikh (turban, patka), Jewish (kippah) and other religious signs.

These people make me sick to my stomach. Funny how it’s all men who started this trend of hijab as oppression for women. The sad part is many of our sisters fell into this belief and were colonized in their minds to believe that hijab was/is a form of oppression. Alhamdulilah I’m proud to wear my hijab, following in the footsteps of the most pious women that lived on this earth. May Allah keep me steadfast. I pray all our sisters find strength and gain knowledge in wearing the correct hijab. Freedom and liberty is not through removing your hijab or making it more appealing to on lookers.

It's easy living in a comfortable, _free_ western society, where you get to play dress-up cause it makes you feel _interesting and special,_ and a whole other thing to actually experience the entire culture from where these habits came from and how it feels to live your life as a second-class human being. 🙄
It's utterly ironic, that while you promote such bs, as though it's harmless, you also celebrate all the social movements for women empowerment, that advocate for things completely incompatible with traditional *uslim views, symbolised by the complete covering of women.

Her mother Mary was a holy woman and we believe that too. Your Bible forbids drinking alcohol, but you do. But we don't drink. Your Bible tells women to behave modestly, if you look at the fact that in most Christian countries women do not behave modestly, whereas our Muslim women wear beautiful hijabs and burqas to cover them. And you say you guys are christian? How? Your God-given Bible has been distorted. So we cannot call it the book of God. But no one has been able to distort what the Qur'an has given to God. This is why we follow the Qur'an, and all these things will be found in the Qur'an. You will find solutions all the problems in your life in the Qur'an. There was a request to read it once. In Islam, there is no ethnic and caste importance, it's doesn't matter that, what's you region and what is your caste, race, and skin colour. Islam gets together the followers of same religion whatever Islam discouraged region and ethnic and caste system and stand the humanity equal once and this ideology followed by all muslims empires not only ottoman empire but also Delhi sultanates and Mughal empire and Seljuk's empire and mumlok empire, fatmid empire and many others till 1900, that's was the reason that every ottoman's sultan called Khalif's because as according to Islamics ideology region haven't importance over religion so they ruled over their holy cities and they ruled out almost 90% Muslims population and protect them some butcher Europeans and when they were destroyed then most of Muslims world gone colonization of some extremists Europeans.

Secondly, they were no 'equality' in the empires you mentioned, each one of them committed atrocities as horrifying as that done by the Europeans
The Delhi Sultanate and Mogul India committed atrocities against the Hindus and the Brahamns, they destroyed thousands of Hindu temples and then committed massacres of millions of Indians
There are many examples, here are a few:
      - the Delhi Sultanate killed 100,000 Hindu rajputs in south Delhi in 1265
      - Alauddin Khaliji ordered the massacre of 30,000 people in Chittor in 1303
      - 12,000 Hindu ascetics were butchered in 1323 after the city of Sriranagm was sacked
      - when Bengal repelled in 1353, Firuz Shah Tushlaq murdered 180,000 hindus in retaliation
      - in 1365, half a million Hidus were massacred by the Bahmani Sultanate, one of the biggest mass killings in Indian history
      - all the torture and massacres of the early sikhs by the Moguls is remembered in their holy books
So much peace for the non-Muslims
But what about the Muslim converts? They were not equal to the Muslim elites either, the caste system continued.
You don't have to defend them, they were not a good example of Islamic rulers anyways as they committed adultery and were heavy drinkers
I don't need now to show you that the Ottoman empire and the Fatmid Caliphate committed atrocities too

Because the Quran states that muslims cannot be slaves, the ottomans would get their slaves from christian Europe, some of these slave women were put in harams where they were banned from speaking of their previous life. This was the case for Hurem Sultan who unexpectedly went on to be Suleiman the Magnificent's wife. The women were also guarded by black eunuchs so that if they ever some how slept together, the baby would be identifiable as not the sultan's child. My point is that harams actually weren't so great

The answer to your question is in your question itself @5:24, you said muslim women, then by women you mean adult female... right? and you became adult ( independent) at the age of 18, right? So they banned hijab for female children below 18 yrs (although i think the age should be till 16 for banning ),then hijab is not banned for women right! .Still i think it's more about culture and place, and also you hypocrite people won't like to understand this, when there are several Muslim countries where there are harsh punishment, beating women for not following burqha or hijab (in your iran, iraq, Saudi Arabia, yemen, sudan, oman and other muslim majority countries), at least they are just banning that for children but you guys did for lifetime for women. Stop asking for freedom when you can't give that to your own people !!!!

Its time for Turkey to invest more in Indonesia considering the historical ties in the past between Aceh and Ottoman or between Mataram and Ottoman and until now the Indonesian people have always remembered the greatness of Ottoman in this time.

Harem is NOT a muslim invention at all. I hate it when ignorants link harem to islam. Harem type of thing is strictly prohibited in islam anyway. They are a cultural thing which goes back thousands of years. Ancient Persians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Chinese all had harems and this long before the advent of islam

    It's not first time.
The same policies were used against Jews. When modestly dress was part of Christianity and still is.
The nuns wear modest clothing. The royalty in European middle ages used viel for higher class aristocratic females. That's why the queen used to cover her head till this day.

To the creator of the video, at 4:28: you explicitly mentioned that they were veiled and had pictures of them unveiled taken. why would you post the pictures of them UNVEILED??? horrendous. please know that if a woman is veiled, under NO CIRCUMSTANCE, can any person that is not directly related to her can see her. don’t be ignorant and disrespectful
