Lots of hate being thrown on what is essentially an entry-level sampler, which Elektron has been knocked for not having prior. Damned if they do, damned if they dont.
Agreed but I think it's the cost that takes it away from being a genuinely entry level machine. Same as a couple of Volcas and Pocket Operators ... I'm happy with my Digitakt 😎
Some people don't have the imagination to understand the other types of musicians that are looking for a live performance sample player. Not everybody is striving to be a bedroom Four Tet, using the Sample as their main workstation or wanting a device to directly sample while they're on the subway. There are countless drummers and keyboard players out there that want to trigger samples live with their group while playing their main instrument. 6 pads is more than enough, probably overkill in most scenarios. The Sample is almost exactly what they're looking for - something to trigger with a brief finger hit, something your attention doesn't get lost in fiddling around with submenus and an overly complex interface.
The hate is daft. Not wanting a Model Samples because you have an Octatrak etc is like not wanting a racing bike because you've got a beamer parked outside.
I can't wait for mine. I already know how powerful this is going to be. The Volca Sample and Digitakt are dope. The Model Sample is looks to be a happy marriage of those two.
Look at Cenk's face when he says "Octatrack had this, Model:Samples has it... [loudest silence ever]... and uh, yeah." I think there's a fleeting flash of "Should I say more?" in that look. Fingers crossed for some news on that one of these months - maybe after M:S has had a chance to market that feature.
@@AlamoBlend says everything about how elektron have burned the people who actually support them. you can make awesome products but when you intentionally drop features for profits, you can go take a long walk off a short pier.
I think it is very likely that Elektron will add it to other boxes if users ask for it. Lately I've been puzzled about Korg giving microtuning to the Minilogue XD and not (yet) to the Prologue. I'm still hopeful it will come in a firmware update, but I think Elektron is much more likely to please us.
always nice to see this guy in action. this groovebox looks like a solid entry-level piece of gear, I can see lots of people enjoying it. would be a great introduction to Elektron-style sequencing.
Amazing little dude. When it released, I didn‘t even inform myself about it, but I got one a month ago and now I‘m even considering getting a second one. Also, you can power it with a small portable usb battery pack when you get the right cable, which is pretty awesome, since it only pulls 2-4W.
I got mine today. I have no idea how you're doing any of this lol! But I'm excited to learn how. I wanted this machine for my drum programming. It's lighter than the octatrack and their other sampler.
Just a thought, if you own a digitakt you could use midi out to control the Tempest and use conditional trigs which has a %probability condition... that’s if you have a digitakt though. Or digitone!
my dsi tempest is an 8 bars loops , and most of time the “ chance “ fonction is used to reach this 8 bar feel . combining 8 bars loop on 8 patterns , with 8 variations patterns ( 1 with 9 / 2 with 10 and so on ... ) and with the swap function you can use on the fly between bank A and B , I think you don’t need a “ chance “ tool to approach this . Just think DEEPLY about what the tempest can do without , like the exemple I am talking about . stay creative . news features on electronic devices will always happen , we just need to think what we can do with our machines instead of thinking about what we cannot do . at the end of that way of thinking , your wallet will be healthy and you will start to play like this great Cenk :)
@@dekalboy8816 I agree with you about the fact that we have to learn how deep we can go with our instruments. But I've had an Elektron Rytm before the Tempest, I didn't like it, but was found of this trig conditions way of writing rhythms (it reminds me of a eurorack sequencer I loved that works on clock divisions and offset). Concerning your solution, I use the Tempest for live shows, so I need to have all the tracks in one project to avoid loading time (and loss of clock synchronization). But thanks for the tip.
Chance reduction on all tracks would make SUCH A FANTASTIC addition to digitone/digitakt. Should be easy to implement, just hold midi and turn condition like anything else.
Amazing product, I hope they continue making this one, and do more updates in the future both hardware and firmware. It's good enough for the price, amazing workflow and its perfect for lofi hip hop, and its inspiring to use, its a piece of art as well. Its basically the Swedish sp 404, but mini version.

not bad at all... I think that if I have a problem with getting more money , then I would probably buy this unit as it is fast to make live music and does a lot of glitch sound I love. Unless I buy the other stereo Elektron hardware this year, I have to stay happy with Digitakt - which is to me - super-small-portable -working on powerbank ,drum/synth-sampler composer on every journey always with me. I love it. Its worth lil bit extra... the con is its mono. ps. I see a lot of bad opinions about "Model"... I hope it's not gonna be the same like with Novation Mono Station - I don't see many users on CZcams pushing a thumb up button after watching their videos, nor ma y views... ,tho not like me as I have 2 units and want to buy a third one. Great video as always!
I wonder if using as a sequencer, all the encoders that would be used for sample manipulation could be used to send cc to mod the externally sequenced gear?
Good point. I’m guessing it’s very capable, as it is the case with other Elektron boxes. To me, the biggest problem is that, as I understand, the midi tracks are not additional but replace the audio ones, so you cannot have more than six (compare that to a Volca Sample 8 voice polyphony!). With other Elektron sequencers the midi tracks are additional. I hope I’m wrong and that is the case here too because six tracks are very limiting. You could have bass, lead, chords and only three parts of percussion... on top, it also seems you cannot change programs to use several samples in the same track & pattern to create the effect of having greater polyphony. In sum, you’d need an additional sequencer for at least one of the parts (if you want a standard four parts percussion set).
(WxkR) Yeah, probably why they are not focusing on the sequencer. Those of us doing minimalistic /emergent electronic music can be happy with 6 synced mono tracks with some randomness.
@@WxkR you can overcome a sample p.locking limitation by just adding a longer sample on one track with various drums and p.locking sample start for every step with the sample you need...in theory :)
Linas Mak good call, that seems possible here and might work in many cases. The minus with it is that it’d detract from the “immediacy” of the workflow advertised for this machine. In any case, the 6 tracks problem is not that terrible considering many synths today come with their own sequencer.
I need a good bass and drum machine to back me up while I play keys and sing. Will this fit the bill? I would think that six tracks for just drum and bass sounds would be enough, but I'm not sure. Anybody?

@@DexterPiano he means elektron purposely fuck their products for money and somehow think we dont notice - well its noticed and they are very close to losing their appeal.

The problem is MIDI has been a lackluster standard since its introduction with very little effort to remedy its flaws up until recently with the announcement of 2.0. Doing simple note on/off commands and such is fine but any demanding high resolution CC modulations and it will start to choke and cause too much latency to be of much use where timing matters, Elektron knows this and therefore sticks with internal sound generation first and foremost.
