That's nice to have a helper. I have started about 30 young horses and had to develop a safe way by myself. Having a ground person is very useful. I use a western saddle at first for extra security... You guys have done a great job!!
Hi Rick. Cherry was 3 years old in this video and certainly not underfed. This video was many years ago, but from what we remember, we had practiced mounting and dismounting a couple times and walked a few steps under saddle, but this was her first time walk/trotting. Thanks for watching.
I pretty sure beezie is sponsored by voltaire. And if my eye is correct this saddle isnt a voltaire, it's probably and older model saddle so just in case something freaky happens then they arent destroying a newer more expensive saddle.
@@Nik-gc9vl Exactly correct. This is an older non-Voltaire saddle we use just for starting the babies. All our other saddles are by Voltaire, which we (and our horses) love!
Great question! We try and keep these sessions nice and short for our young horses, but everything we do one direction we make sure to also work on equally the other direction, just not necessarily the very first time.
If I were a horse, I would hope to be started under saddle using a method like this. This is a fair and kind beginning to training.

This is exactly what I needed to see. Just started my young horse under saddle about a month ago and we’re starting to trot- this is so helpful!

Just the lesson I was looking for. Thank you.
I like your videos that's you do and I like the way you work
Such a sweet horse
I like that you use a step ladder and not some "fancy" mounting block.
How old was the horse. It looks under fed . Also, how many prior rides did you have on that horsr

Do MS horses all use only one saddle maker? I’m curious about who makes this saddle.

I'm wondering if you are adding body weight cues as you are introducing hand and leg aids.
Why are you traveling in only one direction?
