I love how every iteration of "I think you're a joke, but I don't find you very funny" means something slightly different. Shiori and Juri, the sisters with their brothers... with Anthy, it's more complicated (as it should be!), because it starts with Nanami, who's mostly just a fun target (unless you think about the parallels with her brother), then shifts instantly to Kanae, whose treatment by Akio isn't very funny at all, even if their engagement is quite the joke. And then Utena. Oh Utena, playing prince? What a joke - you can't be a prince because you're a girl. Fun, until it almost starts to give Anthy hope, or remind her of the past, and then it's just not funny.
I really do think that Shiori, Kozue, Nanami and Anthy are the same types of characters (tho anthy obviously more so than all of them).
I find it weird the how fans treat Shiori, Kozue, Nanami as if they are very different from Anthy when they are being abused in the exact same way. I have a great amount of respect for witches.
I agree! We are definitely meant to see parallels between Anthy and these girls (little sister parallels with Nanami and Kozue, in the shadow of the prince parallels with Shiori just to name a few). Anthy's narrative arc bears the weight of all their struggles, and that's why I put her section last. Witches4lyfe.
I kind of disagree about shiori bc in my opinion she's actually really awful to juri and seems to do a load for self-gain because she's incredibly insecure. like I can sympathise with her, but I don't think she's been abused to the extent that characters like anthy or nanami have.

This is such an amazing song to cover. It captures the sick, twisted self destructive elements in Utena quite well, and the video of course is quite strong. It's criminal this is not better known. Might help with a different thumbnail...?

Yes! I love that playlist: 8tracks.com/stochasticmollusk/better-fit-for-collision. I actually get a lot of my songs from 8tracks. For example, Truce is a song I discovered from a Chell/Glados fanmix. And I Run came from a Nanami playlist. I think that song suits Nanami too, but I really wanted to make an Anthy video to it. The same thing kind of happened here. This song totally works for just Shiori and Juri, but there is no way I could have made a full length video of them with this song. Honestly, I could have edit this song with just purely Anthy, but it was kind of fun to just have a condensed Anthy verse, and focus on some other characters I don't edit with as often. Anyway, thank you for the comment, sorry for the ramble.

Wow, this breaks my heart. Sorry to keep you waiting so long! I am still trucking away on my other 2 trailers, they take way longer than regular amvs (and I'm a really slow editor to begin with) because I'm trying to use quotes from the show that come with their own music and trying to mask that with my own chosen trailer music. Plus, I've gone through two laptops, so a lot of progress has been made and then lost and then made again. I can't promise soon, but I can promise eventually.
