The most hilarious Pathe joke I've heard is when they did a 1950s video on how cars were being given away with incentives *Pans over to show a young woman sitting on one of them* "No, not her, she's a customer." British humor back then was razor sharp.

When starting University in the early to mid 1970s, & during break times & holiday times i always worked for a company that made cartons for various food & beverage companies.
As my holiday work was in the Labs testing the board & inks used in the manufacture & printing of packs, cartons & boxes.
Often there would be runs for exclusive chocolate manufacturers & the boxes we produced were fabulous to see!
Some like jewelled treasure chests, some tall ones with 3 or 4
Drawers, with tiny silk tassles on the front to pull open the drawers to reveal each layer of fine chocolates.
There was also a wonderful Castle box in which the rooftops with turrets & archway shapes were the lids of the chocolates in the castle rooms below.
We produced a beautiful Wardrobe or Tallboy with inset mirror pvc & decorated in the French Versailles style
( my absolute favourite box & one of the boxes i was allowed to keep)
Some boxes looked like a framed Old Master painting, but upon lifting it up, it was the lid of the chocolate box.
Then there were the traditional boxes in beautiful colours & designs adorned with huge satin ribbons, little gold trinkets, silk flowers, pastel tissue leaves within & heavy embossed metallic
    Thick card protectors
    So very decadent!
Not that my Company made the chocolates, mores the pity, but our luxury boxes were sent to specialised Chocolatieres in London like Charbonnel et Walkers or handmade chocolate companies in York, Edinburgh, Bristol even to Europe! & even in the 1970s these wonderful boxes held exquisite chocolates
( some destined for Royalty !!)
And they cost from 10 guineas per box, upto 50 guineas...
Thats alot to pay in todays money but the really expensive ones held alot of fabulous confectionary & the boxes were works of art!
I was everso lucky as i also used to change & decorate our big display cabinets in our companies showroom & as some of the unique styles & amazing boxes became a little dusty or faded, i was allowed to keep some.
I was very fortunate as they couldnt be bought, only with ths chocs inside, also how really strongly they were constructed & decorated, so beautiful!
I still have a couple now, they have lasted well as jewellery boxes
I always remember helping a valued customer ( Chocolatier) with a problem & a few days later & just before i left, at that time, to resume my university studies.
The customer sent me a small box of his exclusive Pink Champagne Truffles ( only sold in Harrods!)
    As a Thank You!
    I was thrilled!
The Truffles were huge & putting just one in your mouth totally filled it right up!
I had to cut each one in quarters
Very rich & marvellous taste & amazing & exotic ingredients too!
Sorry its a long comment but just seeing this today took me right back to 50yrs ago like it was yesterday!
Thank you for these Pathe newsreels! They also fill me with dear memories too.
    Regards
    🇬🇧👧

My Father once brought back a square box of chocolate for me years ago. They were thin sheets of milk chocolate and I think it was Swiss, but I don't remember. They were very thin with parchment between each layer and snapped when I broke them into pieces. It was the absolute greatest chocolate I've ever had. Nothing else has come close, it's a long shot, but does anyone have any idea where I might find a similar chocolate? I feel an obsession coming on, 😊

That's one thing you didn't see in history classes post war. No more rationing would be exciting for sure.
