One of the greatest pieces of the 2oth century by one of its greatest , if not its greatest composers -- Sergei Prokofiev -- who had talent to burn, but never forgot the heart, and it's lovely to see how the musicians here love playing this difficult but entirely musical work.

agreed. For me he is the most underestimated composer of the 20th century. Bach and Prokofjew are my Gods.

@@jankobelde And Prokofjew didn't drag his "suffering" around and wear a one size fits all hair shirt like Shostakovich who had to have snitched on others to stay alive, and the composer Ernst Krenek even called him " the prince of collaborators ".He was basically a spoiled enfant terrible whose career was promoted by the state, and he scored propaganda films of Stalin. I knew Virgil Thomson very well, and he said that Prokofjew suffered greatly in 1949 when the Zhadnov decree forced composers to fall into line. And let's be real. Prokofiev had imagination and a lyric gift second to none., as in his vln cto # 1. Shostakovich has been presented to the public as a THE tortured tragic 19th century arrtist of the 20th century, and people like S. Volkov have advertised him as such and thereby profited. Would we worship Mozart and Schuber if they hadn't died "tragically" young?

Thank you for this excellent rendition of a work that I had not know before, but have now had the pleasure of listening to many times.
