  • Watch this video of Koala Clem eating. See him pause? Wild Koalas do this a lot. They will suddenly pause while eating to look around and listen. It's a way to take in their surroundings, the movements of other koalas, and stay alert to threats. Once satisfied, they return to their meal.
    Koalas rely on their excellent hearing and sense of smell to keep in touch with their world.
    And check out those enormous front teeth! These are designed especially for snipping off large amounts of eucalypt leaves.

    Because they are straining their ears to focus on sounds of potential threats, passers-by, etc.

    When they munch , it's obvious they don't hear a lot. So they need to pause and listen...
