There are many problems with this "guide".
1: It seems to be "logical" to install additional magnet in the same direction as the original, but in the actual arrangement flux is guided by the iron plates and pole piece, and they reverses the magnetic polarity at the place of usage (i.e. in the air gap) if the additional magnet is outside of the magnetic loop. Therefore the proposed direction makes the speaker weaker, not louder.
2: The additional magnet is in an open magnetic circuit with very high magnetic resistance, this because its flux is decreased significantly, and only a fraction of it arrives to the front plate. Furthermore, front plate is already saturated at the air-gap, this because increasing its flux significantly requires extreme magnetic excitation (which is not available here). The effect of a correctly aligned additional magnet to sensitivity is quite weak, however not zero.
3: As others mentioned before, the purpose of the additional magnet is not increasing sensitivity (it could have been done much more effectively inside of the magnetic loop), but far-field magnetic cancellation. Small enhancement in sensitivity is just a side-effect.
4: Nothing is proven. No measurement of TS parameters before and after.

@@wackenroader Yes, I have many different speakers (including Sony bass speakers) with this kind of additional magnets, with or without shielding iron. My comment was about their *direction* and about its purpose.

I'm like. if you want a stronger magnet on the speaker put it the same direction. Put them different dirrections??? just going tomake the magnetic fields less predictable?? I don't know I guess I haven't AB tested the magnets for direction like stated. Just seems like you would want all the magnets facing the same direction.

This is a bucking magnet configuration. This lowers the electrical Q and increases sensitivity but not by as as you may think.

the proper double magnet woofers/speakers will have the voice coil travel all the way into their pole piece ... which is the double magnet full distance travel .. but this ... you only just physically add another magnet on the back of the speaker magnet and it wont just work this way round ...
Exactly. You will however add some form of shielding so you can place the driver closer to a CRT Display, Cassette, floppy disks, etc.

It's not genius work at all. A miltiple stacked magnet woofer takes into account the magnetic gap, voice coil former, and voice coil itself. There is a reason why a triple stcaked magnet is all together, and not stopped by the back plate, or the pole. It's asanine honestly.

@mrdocprofessor patrick Not sure what you mean by noise, because the last time I checked, the whole point of a speaker is to make noise. Being as though you're using in a negative way I'm thinking you're talking about port noise. Being as though a speaker will move its least at its fB, you don't need any more control. As long as you build your box properly, you won't have any port noise at your boxes fB. So, either way you look at it, you're wrong. Not to mention the physics behind a loudspeaker has little impact when adding a magnet to it. The very, very, very, negligible increase of magnetic power to the speakers will be virtually inaudible. If it made such a big difference, don't you think car audio Enthusiast and home audio sound systems would always come with them? Isn't it funny how the only speakers at have them are the ones that would sit next to a TV or computer. It seems to be, maybe the reason for anti magnetization is less interference between electronic devices... Hmm. May I digress. Notice how the only people that religiously put a magnet on the other side of the motor are people that know little to nothing about the physics of loud speakers. Or, anything about acoustical engineering for that matter.
How calculate right magnet strong to 600rms 12 inch subwoofer? I have magnet 75mm 500kg power and subwoofer magnet is 180mm. Is that good use this 500kg neodymium magnet to this subwoofer?
When a coil is run through a strong magnetic field, after energizing the coil will vibrate in that magnetic field ... so the larger the magnet block, the more chance your speaker has of running at low frequencies. ... and more bass ... on the contrary, the high frequency will be slightly attenuated

Ypu should know that the second magnet is placed opposing the first magnet in order to make the speaker less magnetic. It provides shielding, although to a lesser degree. It contributes nothing to the polarization caused by the main magnet, not it destroys it.

Alfred, your problem here is that the extra magnet does absolutely nothing at all to increase bass. You voice coil and voice coil former are only going to go as far down as the cone and spider will let it. Also, the voice could and former are going to stop on the back plate. Adding an extra magnet does nothing but add weight. It does not strengthen or increase the magnetic gap.

I have a old pair of Sony car speakers, over 10 years old at least, that has a coil winding around the OUTSIDE of the woofer magnet. I am clueless wth that is. Anyone know about that? BTW they have stonger deeper bass than 6 modern ones I've tried (2 jbl, 1 alpline, 2 kenwood, 1 pioneer. The model of the sony 6.5 inch is XS-HD160g. maybe a hair thin in mids but really good deep base. Better overall than any of those others. Can't find picture of magnet online, but has a clearly visible wide band of coated red coil wire around the OUTSIDE of the magnet and it's obviously is part of the mechanism. This is very interesting to me as I've never heard of it or seen it elsewhere I don't even know how it works or what that coil does. Any ideas anyone?

@@AlfredH it is wrapped around the OUTSIDE edge, yes the outside of the magnet. It is 9/16 inch wide, about as thick as it looks like the magnet may be, but the magnet itself is not visble, there is some cup or housing. The housing forms a 9/16 slot that appears to retain the coil. The coil is exposed, bare (but of course coated wire), huge and obvious. I giant red ring of wire around the outside of the magnet. I assume there is a normal voice coil, maybe this is an 'opposing coil' idk. have no clue what is going on, but it's obviously not just for show, lol. I have a picture but idk good easy way to share.

@@AlfredH ok I found the answer, and it's pretty impressive but idk how much it may matter in performance. Found some old promotional stuff online somewhere it says this (along with some unrelated info I left off): "The crossover's lowpass

Meanwhile I've found the sound of these speakers to be sorta unique and now I want to repair what I think is a bad woofer voice coil but idk if that is possible. I'd have to know how to take it apart but ever harder I'd have to be able to buy a replacement coil. Of I would rather just buy the same speaker again. I just bought and tried 7, yes, 7 different speakers, and don't like them as well after playing them again the other working sony in the other door. I will prolly get maybe 2 more higher priced pairs to try but after that I guess I will just have to go with whatever is best among them. So far the JBL 6522ix is the best among it's class vs alpine, polk, kenwood, and pioneer, but it has a low mid bump that is annoying, and still not as deep and controlled in bass as the sony, while better than the others. So I may get some of the pricey sony's, I didn't try really low priced sony's. I couldn't find these 'mid priced' in sony. I've been testing freq sweeps on them in a large insulated box, and also testing free air resonance. Those test are actually consistent with my listening preferences. I haven't mearsured the old working sony yet, have left it in the door, but I will test it when I finally replace it or sooner.
