Mr. Mandela was imprisoned for 27yrs trying to overthrow the state government but when he released, he bounced back to politics and changed the world views on indigenous people for ever in South Africa and so as Fiji...."when the people fear the government there's tyranny, but when the government fear the people there's liberty". For Humanity reasons Nelson Mandela was released from his Robben Island prison in South Africa. I wonder what our human rights activists doing in the case of Mr Speight, Takiveikata and all of them who were imprisoned as political prisoners.
So sad that George was brought in literally on the 11th hour to execute the coup, he wasn't even one of the main people at all. I know this based off what many Fijian chiefs connected to coup leaders have told me over the years. His eloquence in English and education was why he was asked the night before to join the coup. Nobody wants to talk about the Indians involved in funding the 2000 coup and how they were traitors to their own community. Personally, I'd agree to let George go, he never was the mastermind behind anything sadly.
