- A lot has happened in the past 2 weeks, but my time in the Netherlands is coming to an end so I made a video to wrap up this past 3 months. In this video, I will talk about what happened, my thoughts, a preview of some of the content I have planned for when I go back to Toronto, as well as a recap of all the things I've experienced this time visiting the Netherlands.
I'm just so incredibly grateful for everything, for anyone that's been following for a while, and all of the new subscribers, thank you!
See you all in the next series of my simple living diaries in Toronto ☺️

The Meaning of Life is to Give Life Meaning
I used to be very materialistic when I was young. But meeting an unemployed family two streets away as a student completely shocked me, their life couldn't have been more different from what I was used to. If I had never met them, I am sure I would only have found out the hard way that my plans for the future were simply not sustainable, because not being ambitious was simply not an option I knew existed. I am grateful that I didn't have to. Nobody ever tells you not to aim high, do they? When I was 23 I sold investment products. Now I work a library in the most beautiful building in the city. Thank God.
I love this! Thanks for sharing your story, and I resonate with you so much about "nobody ever tells you not to aim high". So happy you found a simple, non-materialistic way to live your life, it's inspiring!
Sorry for your loss❤
Thanks for sharing!
thanks for watching!
Just contemplate with your viewers, like this video. Very nice.❤
what a hard thing to go through, I hope your partners doing better, it'll take time. sending love x
the way you spoke of your partners father was so sweet, im sure his dad was happy to know his son had someone in his life who speaks so highly of him and his family.
looking forward to your next video, take care :)
THAT'S NOT SIMPEL ,THAT'S RICHE ,FROM HEART AN SOUL .THE ONLY THING WHAT MATTERS. !!!!!
Thank you for sharing your trip, Andrew! Nice video, love it! The story of your partner's dad really makes me wanna cry, what a beautiful soul ❤❤❤Looking foward to more videos about your journey to fanancial freedom and how do you feel when you hit the goal..
hey Rachel, his dad was really a big inspiration for me, much like my grandma. Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your kind words!
I'm Dutch and just don't understand why people need so much STUFF. The whole "Stanley cup" thing in the U.S. broke my mind. It's a DRINKING BOTTLE. Brands and material objects mean nothing. What if you lose everything in a fire? Is your life now over?
Hey there! I totally agree, and I observed that most Dutch have this simple, minimalistic and non-materialistic approach to life, which I resonate with so much! Netherlands is a very special place, I feel like I belong there haha
wow, I got this video recommended and dang... somehow I wish CZcams hadn't. I am so sorry for your loss. Much love and strength to all involved.
hey there, I'm honestly not sure why the algorithm started pushing this video as I didn't think it provided much value for most people...but I guess perhaps Gijs' dad can be an inspiration for other people as well, as it did mine! Thanks for watching though, hope you got something out of it :)
Seperate comment for the last part of your video.
Keukenhof: Funny how you called it "the Tullip garden for tourists", it is a very popular destination for us Dutch as well :) As you no doubt have noticed (you filmed it after all" it is not so much a Tullip garden but a flower garden with all sorts of flowers. There slogan is "Grown for a smile" and I am sure they succeeded when it comes to you :)
Noordwijk aan Zee: Nah not really but for an English speaker it is acceptable, I have heard far worse. few pointers... The D at the end of Noord is spoken as a t, basically it is the same as North but prolong the o a bit.
When you see either ij or ei in a worth, treat it as the i in high, If I had to give a spelling that English would pronounce as aan I would say use (Dzjengis) Kahn but without the k, zee is pornounced as say so "Northw{i}k -K- ahn Say"
Kibbeling: Just as the Kroket and Bitterbal are the same thing in a different shape, Kibbeling has it's bigger brother with Lekkerbek. This is a whole fishfilet prepared with the same batter. similar to the English fish in "Fish and Chips"
little fun fact: Behind you is a book called "de Wereld Bosatlas", this used to be called "De Grote Bosatlas" and was, at least in my days, the standard in Dutch schools. It was the book that made me want to travel. Sadly didn't get the opportunity to do much of that traveling but I did strike some locations off my bucketlist.
Glad you had a great time here.
hey there! Thanks for all those tips! I hope the next time I visit in 3 months my Dutch would be much improved ☺️. And I have to try Lekkerbek next time! It sounds so delicious!
I didn't know your channel but really love the calming music while sharing your thoughts. Sorry about your loss, but it's beautiful that you've gotten to hear those stories about Gijs' dad's life.
And Noordwijk, the pronunciation of the first part would be like the word North but ending on a 'd' instead of 'th', and the second part would be like the English word eye. So w-eye-k. That should get you close to it 😅. Love that you're learning Dutch, doesn't often happen and Gijs' must appreciate it too.
hey there, thanks for watching and your tips on the pronunciation! I'm determined to get better with my Dutch, let's see how much I can improve in 3 months ☺️
I guess your soul is maturing, beautiful. And I am happy for you!
hey there, thanks for your comment, I'm definitely feel like I'm growing as a person ☺️
❤
The happyness is not with materialistic things, but it looks as if "one" is already established and has a certain level of luxury. Am I wrong?
Hello, I'll be visiting the Netherlands for 11 days in Sep. Are there any cities you highly recommend? Thank you! 😍
hey there! I can only speak to the (limited) places I've seen, but I recommend checking out Maastricht and Nijmegen, I think those are both super cute. And if you have time, Efteling (theme park) is also worthwhile, it's very unique with a lot of folks and fairytales! I made some silent vlogs on those places from last year, have a look if you're curious! So excited for you to check out many of these cute places!
Thank you 🥰
What do you film with on your trips?
hey there, I've been using Osmo Action 3 and my iPhone 15 Pro. Previous 3-4 videos were with the Action 3, but this video I went back to the iPhone. Just wanted to keep things simple. Both cameras are good, but a tip for Action 3 is to film in 4k then downsize to 1080p when editing, the quality difference vs shooting native 1080p is pretty big!
Did you realize you recorded this video in a Dutch Angle? (you can google what that means if you don't know)
hey there! I've actually never heard of it (had to look it up). I like how I like the Dutch culture so much that I'm already filming subconsciously in a Dutch Angle haha
Why are you in your underware?
It was probably warm?
A big "jump"... from "happyness" (suposedly not materialistic" to "financial independence in your 30s. Redefine your message. To me it sounds like a lie. Why should people watch your channel? They are aiming at your goal (which you seem to have reached...), or poeple should forget about it and go for non-materialistic happiness (and grab food in the backstage of las Vegas hotels... happily).
