Seen Red Ryder in the 80's live with lead singer Tom Cochrane who went on as a solo artist. Also seen Tom Cochrane live 2013 in Mississauga,Ontario at an outdoor concert on a local stage at Celebration Square. He sang all of his hits including Lunatic Fringe.

As a young man in my 20’s I remember waking up to this song playing on my mechanical clock radio back around 1981. Seems like the station played it at that exact time every morning for several weeks. It’s a real masterpiece. A shame that the message has been forgotten. If we forget history, we are bound to re-live it. God bless you sir!

Years ago at my gym in Burlington Ontario there was a spin class where the instructor was playing Tom Cochrane and Red Ryder songs in the class. One guy in the class was singing along at the top of his voice which annoyed the instructor a bit and he didn't know or recognize the guy. Then the guy singing explained "That's me on the recording". It was Tom Cochrane. True story.

I remember seeing this music video on MTV back in either late-1981 or early-1982. It got steady rotation on the channel for a long time that year. The lead singer's name is Tom Cochrane. Red Ryder was a Canadian Rock band. Like you stated in the video, Tom Cochrane later recorded the song, and made a music video, for the song, "Life Is A Highway", which also got a lot of airplay on MTV as well.

This song has been on point for many decades. They are talking about the big business corps and their owners who are making the calls about what happens in the world. Some of us are not asleep and have been aware of what's going on most of our lives. All it takes is one major incident that doesn't seem right like missing some information or reactions that should be questioned. That's when the light bulb comes on and you see the world and the evil ones for what they are.

I haven't heard this song in a great while. I know the song, but didn't know it's title or the artist who made it. When you said it's by the same guy who did "Life is a highway" I was all manner of, "No way!" Five minutes later, "Wow! I can't believe that! I never knew!"
What's strange is, I guess I never really listened to the words, as the first time I heard this was on the 1985 movie "Vision Quest," and the suggestion was that the "lunatic fringe" was something cool. Movies usually change the order of lyrics, editing out certain parts, so the point of the lyrics can get jumbled to something completely different. To a degree the synopses of the story seemed to jive with the song: Rebellious High school-er, Wrestler, doing what he feels is right despite what his father and coach tells him what to do. Meanwhile he falls for the "bad girl" older woman, who distracts him from his goals.
