    I really enjoyed this video. A few years back I was discussing Snuffy with a friend and I mentioned that he was Big Bird’s imaginary friend. She told me that he wasn’t imaginary and was regularly surrounded by the other characters. It turned out that our age difference (of only a few years) meant that we had watched Sesame Street at different points on Snuffy’s timeline.

    • @Skully1200

      Snuffy's original design definitely made him seem more like an imaginary being, and was...different to say the least...long story short, I no longer feel justified of being scared of the "new" Snuffy as a kid.

      On at least one occasion in an older episode Oscar also knocked holes in the bottom of his trash can stuck his feet through and walked around like that so he didn’t have to leave his trashy possessions behind.

    • @davidjohnverdillo6155
      @davidjohnverdillo6155 Před 11 dny +2

      Next time back then until now, a character who specifically carried Oscar around should always be rebuilt so people can wait until further notice when the price is reduced so the creators of Sesame Street should always focus on stories and extra stories on all characters.

    As a huge Muppet, Henson, and Sesame geek, I enjoyed this video and can’t wait for the other parts. It’s been confirmed that several of these retired characters, including Roosevelt Franklin, Biff and Sully, Betty Lou, Forgetful Jones, Hoots the Owl, and even Lefty the Salesman will appear to some capacity in the 50th Anniversary Special, so I can’t wait for that. Curiously, Matt Vogel also listed Biff and Forgetful under his list of characters on his website, so I wonder if that means they will have their first speaking roles in decades in the special. EDIT: I learned from the second part that Forgetful DID have a speaking role earlier this year from Matt Vogel, and afterwards found out that Lefty along with Don Music came back at this year's Comic Con both performed by Ryan Dillon.

    I grew up with the original Sesame Street from its start and into the 1970's, at whatever point I started to outgrow Sesame Street. When the Muppet Show came along, I was around preteen to teen. -- Back in the day, I was a big fan of ol' Grover and Snuffleupagus, as well as Kermit. -- You may not know it, but Mr. Rogers made a guest appearance on Sesame Street at least once, to talk about "pretending," and had his own adventure with Big Bird and (maybe) Snuffleupagus. -- Isn't it funny how eventually, we grow up enough to realize we were silly to have "outgrown" all those things we loved when we were kids, or even teens? Sesame Street and the Muppets were and are seriously cool, and Mr. Rogers was extraordinary in a way I'm not sure will ever happen again. For the little kid I was, I am very glad there was a Mr. Rogers on TV to tell me I was OK just the way I was, not just to hear it from my family or a few friends.

    In other words, just before Between the Lions. Which was created by mostly (if not entirely) former alumni of Sesame Street, in the same style of Sesame Street, for the purpose of following Sesame Street, to target students of an age beyond the target audience of Sesame Street.
    Coincidentally, some of the footage you found of Chicago the Lion has him in a library. . .
    So I would wager there is your answer for why Chicago stopped appearing: He was redundant.

    I know a rare SS singing group that was appeared in 1974 and 1976. And the SS group was the Tarnish Brothers. They were the background singers that appeared in 2 songs! One was "I Just Adore 4", sung by Big Bird. The Tarnish Brothers provided background vocals for Big Bird. One Tarnish Brother was Pumpkin Orange, the second one was fat blue, and the third was gold (like Guy Smiley), but got replaced by a lavender puppet 2 years later.
    The Tarnish Brothers appeared again in 1976 providing backup vocals for Kermit when he sang "This Frog". They were voiced by Jerry Nelson, Richard Hunt and Christopher Cerf.
