- The first part of Tasman's 12 day epic trip around Stewart Island/Rakiura in his 3.6m inflatable, Red Current.
In this episode we see a bit of light boating across Foveaux Strait, a couple whitetail deer running around and good numbers of paua and fish.
Follow along for the 3 part series, cheers for watching!

I’ve lived in Riverton all my life an have never known anyone to punch the straight in a wee inflatable 🤣 that’s impressive 👌
😂 thanks mate, nice across the straight on a good day anyway!
You deserve to have ten times the number of subscribers! Not many other outdoor channels go and do anywhere near these sorts of true adventures! Good on you.
Thanks bro 😆 I live for those adventures 😁 Cheers for watching!
Man you're so brave going on such a big trip on such a small boat... And doing it alone... I dunno if I'm brave enough for that
Haha cheers mate, I like to tell my family that I'm already IN the rubber lifeboat if something were to go wrong 😂
Are you from Bluff Tasman?
Up in ChCh 👍
Wicked bro..shit your keen to go across there in a wee boat can't wait for the next part👌👌
Thanks Tom she's a trusty wee vessel that's for sure!
Cheers me up so much to see younger folk out there making the most of their time.

Hunting, fishing, diving, boating and camping all in one trip, solo. That's epic!
Tasman (and Arved) have become one of my staples for regular viewing. The more I watch the more I want to watch, if that makes sense. Always puts a smile on my face. Keep it up guys. The content is highly entertaining and quite frankly, the hard yards you both put in is second to none. If you watch the vids, make sure you subscribe! (and no, I don't know them).
Wow thanks so much 😁 really appreciate it! Glad you're enjoying the content, thanks for the comment 😊
Plenty of opportunities to photograph the deer AFTER you shoot it lol. Awesome adventure.
Haha learned my lesson 😂, I improved by next episode 😉

🤣 The first foveaux crossing was one of the calmer passages of the trip actually! Hahaha cheers mate
I just met a NZ guy , a friend in the gym. I went to NZ in November. He suggested next time to go to Stuart island. What a coincidence that this afternoon I came across this
Haha that's awesome, absolutely recommend checking Stewart Is out!
Thanks for all you do for us bro the man

I enjoy tagging along on your adventures. Thanks for sharing 😎

Great work Tasman, awesome to see what can be achieved with an adventurous spirit and a small boat down there. Looking forward to part two.
Thanks Shane, cheers for watching 😁
Lived on Stewart Island many years ago, we had a large generator for our power and crossed Foveaux on the Wairua ferry. Really enjoyed your videos, great seeing your travels on the map.
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed the vid 👍
Interesting and first rate video coverage which I enjoyed having visited the island many years ago. If I can offer a constructive criticism, the video would be greatly enhanced for it's documentary value if the dialogue was improved by clearer, slower diction. Thanks for the video and I'm looking forward to part 2.
Thanks Tim! Cheers for the feedback, your kind wording is much appreciated, hahaha that's what my mum's been telling me for years 🤣 I'm working on it! Thanks for watching 😁
What an amazing adventure you deserve many more viewers.
Awesome place, I love it there, and great clip, pleasure to watch 😊

Good on ya!
Awsome need more adventures ❤❤
Really enjoying this series as I love Stewart Island. Some of your recipes look yummy !! Especially the Moki curry. Will be on the island again in Jan'24
Thanks Ian! Glad you're enjoying it, I'm definitely a big fan of the moki curry, it holds together very well and is nice and succulent 😋
@@NZWildAdventures any chance of the recipe?!
Nothing fancy: fry onions, garlic, ginger, then add masaman curry paste (think it's the "Ayam" one in the vid) and paprika, fry for a bit, then add mushrooms and broccoli if you like, and cook for a bit. Then chuck in your fish and coconut cream and basically just bring it to the boil and it should be done!
@@NZWildAdventures Thanks Tasman, I'm going to try it 🙂
amazing
awesome video looks like some really good bays for deer and camping looking forwards to part 2 nice one m8 .
Cheers mate! Yeah some awesome beaches in there 😁
Awesome video bro, you’re a bloody mad man for running that in ya boat! Love the vids mate

Best content on CZcams. Well done..
Thanks so much 😊 cheers for watching!
You have some epic adventures!
Enjoyed your vid
Doing epic stuff again..!
Great video
You remind me of our local adventurer over the ditch here called ROKKIT. Brave . Fit. Challenges himself continually. But is Sea based as opposed to you who Id regard as a mountain man. (No disrespect tendered. Just sheer awe of your application of skill, fitness and Bravery to execute you adventure hunt. 👍👊
I'll have to check him out, I do love the sea too though 😁 thanks!
Legendary
Would've been more so if you were on board 😜
Still surprises me how many people don't thump paua , instead beat it with a rock to tenderize it !
I actually did one the other day with no bashing, and it was super tender 🤔 I don't get it 😂
Amazing!!! cant wait for part two!!
Love your content keep them coming
Came across this video purely by chance and enjoyed it SO much that I just had to go on and watch the other two you made of the trip,Have been to the Island many times and it is without dought my happy place any where in the world and I enjoyed that you managed to take us to a lot of the Island's more remote parts ,some I have been to and some not (never been down the piece from Doughboy Bay to Pegasus)and as I'll turn 68 in a couple of months don't think I'll get to see some of them again, What really surprised me was that you were able to get into such a small boat in the first place as it takes BIG BALLS to do a trip like that solo at the best of times, Was surprised you didn't have any footage of Belltopper Falls when you were in Pegasus later in your trip as it is probably the best waterfall on the Island, My biggest question of your adventure though is how you managed to have enough Battery Power for that length of time for all you devices.Would also love to know if you managed to get out the top of the bush when you hunted up the old Horse Tram line from Diprose Bay in Pegasus? as when I went up there 30 odd years ago there was still a lot of evidence of the tin mining to be seen up there including the amazing rock dam that powered the water lines for the tin miners and there was still a lot of the old wooden rails and sleepers in evidence, finally I would just like to add that these 3 video's have been some of my most enjoyable watch's ever on U Tube ,thank you for the trip and I going to go back and watch all 3 again soon just to enjoy it all again
Wow thanks so much for your comment! Glad you've enjoyed the videos 😁. Haha I'm not sure why I didn't check out Beltopper falls, though that was around the time I dropped my phone in the water so I guess I was distracted 😂.
I had two methods for charging, 18650 Lithium ion cells for 12v to 5v with a car cigarette lighter thingy, and makita batteries with a dc/dc converter, worked out pretty well with all the various cameras! And nah I didn't get that far up the hill, basically just got high enough to sidle around to the east through the forest, since the deer seem to hang out in the lower altitudes. A trip to the tops would have been fun though, that sounds like some cool relics to find.
Thanks for watching 😊
Epic, that’s truly an adventure well done you!I have just come across your channel.Got me on board cheers Steve from Nelson
Thanks! That's awesome, cheers for watching mate 👌
Awesome start mate
How many kms did you cover in the we boat awesome video really enjoy them keep up the good content
450km ish, using about 105L of petrol 👌. Cheers Matt!
A decent buck print including dew claws would get close to filling the area in the L of your thumb and pointer finger. They look like whitetail doe to me
Wow that's a lot bigger than I thought, the one in the vid looked about 90mm long excluding the dew claws. Interesting!
Awesome. I’ve been to a lot of those bays but not like that. Well done. Isn’t NZ cool.
Thanks 😁 yep we're pretty lucky that's for sure
cool video bro
Awesome bro, love the content. I'm in Oz and want to come home and do some solo missions. Hunting diving living of the whenua. Mean as 👍👍
Thanks bro! Do itt 😁
Wicked vids bro keep it up 🤙🏼
Part 2?
Edit: cancel that , found it.
Truely epic content bro 🤙🏼
Thanks Brad! All 3 parts should be up on a playlist 👌
Great video Tasman, I've never seen such an easy paua hunt! Love that you took some vege on the trip, gotta keep it healthy 😁 thought you said blueberries instead of booboos 😂 Great footage of that white tail!
Thanks Summer! Haha yeah very low effort 😂 I wonder what the auto subtitles thought I said 🤣.
Shot bro
Just popped across aye bro,I've herd guys with bigger boats complain about that crossing no sweat to you alright
Hahaha I had a good day to cross 😂 cheers mate 👌
It fascinates me that you take your little boat across to the island. Epic adventures, is it very good hunting the open area for whitetail? Obviously no huts but I guess not that many people hunt that area?
Thank you! Well I only saw 3 deer total, all in the open area, but I guess that's not a great sample of how the hunting is everywhere else 😆. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more animals though, you're right I don't think very many people go round the more remote areas down south.
Tasman considering how fast he can eat a whole buck; a week for an average man, Tasman could do it in 4 days. You’ve mastered that drone quickly, and they were fantastic shots. I was surprised at how calm it all looked and so far, and I was more worried for you on the Hollyford/Milford 4-part episode, though perhaps there is more danger to come (sharks and spiders aside). It looked pristine (apart from the cats) and so many fish - maybe this is where the expression shooting fish in a barrel comes from. Did the circumnavigation make you think about maybe walking around it, or was this enough?
Thanks Paul! I dunno, there's a lot on a whole deer, maybe make that 5 days 😉😂. There's a bit of rough weather next ep. but these first days were pretty nice while I was on the water. The moki certainly weren't playing hard to get 😂
You know what, walking around Rakiura actually sounds pretty cool 🤣
First time viewer. New sub. Cool video
Thanks for watching 😊
Hi man. When you come back to Stewart Island I'm keen come with you.. I'm leave down South. Cheers
Cheers mate, it's an epic place!
Balls of steel! That is one hell of a trip in that little boat. Be interested to see what the eastern side looked like, between Pegasus and Lords river tends to be interesting year round. From Tikotatahi onwards not too bad. Are you using inreach for weather?
Cheers Thomas! Eastern side was pretty much all good, was a bit gnarly off south west cape though 😂. Nah, I've never used one actually, they're a bit pricey for my liking 😅, I just had some forecasts saved from the start of the trip and I got a couple rough forecasts from some hunters in Pegasus for the eastern passage👍
Ummmmm what were those claw prints from? Haha
😅😂
awesome vid , and brave did you take all your food and fuel or have stuff stashed , what horse powers your outboard ?
Thanks mate! Yep took all the food I needed and 100L of petrol, and I bought an extra 20L off some hunters in Port adventure. She's an 18HP Tohatsu 2 stroke 👌 Cheers for watching!
Nice master! Bagong kaibigan po full support sayo, kaw na bahala sa resbak master, fish on! 🎣😁
Great video mate, what type of drone are you using ?
Thanks mate! It's a dji mini 2 👌
I have so many questions!
Cool video! What brand of boat is that?
Thanks! It's an OceanNZ Inflatable, I don't think they make em anymore though. Very similar to a Rockboat. Mines 3.6m 👌
What size is your outboard
18hp 👌
Unreal you went from garden bay to ruggedy pretty cool I use to hunt there alot great spot enjoy watching your trips 👍
Cheers mate! That's cool, it was a pretty spectacular spot in there 😁
(Insert nicest possible comment know to man here)
(Insert "wow thanks so much 🤗" here)
Could you tell me abit about your boat? Length make etc?
Yeah mate, it's an Ocean 360 (3.6m) made by Ocean Inflatables NZ, not sure if they're still making them tho. It's got a 5 section aluminium floor over an inflatable keel, and 3 separate pontoon chambers (sides/front). Had it for 8 years with no holes, the thing seems basically indestructible 🤣 (considering what I've put it through 😂)
@@NZWildAdventures that’s awesome. Thanks mate. I love your channel. Your my fav on CZcams
Hi Tasman i would love to be on one of your adventures but i don't think my balls are big enough , great watching
🤣 or maybe you just have a healthier amount of self-preservation instinct 😂 Thanks Murray!
