I used to get it from my dad when i was first allowed to wear spurs, and it put the buckles on the inside. He finally just said "You'll learn"! Well, when i took that tree off the inside of my stirrup and bruised my foot quite well. Let's say the buckles never went on the inside again. Then history repeated itself, between me and one of my boys
I learned as a young boy, you wear the buckles on the outside, so they will not catch on each other, and keep you from falling on your face!! That comes out of New Mexico, Vaya Con Dios
@@thecowboycampus I grew up with cowhands, in northeaster New Mexico. Most of the hands I grew up with, wore true shotgun chaps, no zippers, no buckles, no snaps. I have watched younger guys try to put on a pair of shotgun chaps. They fight them like a three year old putting on his britches. The way you slip into a pair of shotgun chaps is to turn them around backwards, they will slip right on and off, of course after you get them pulled up just turn the legs around. The old cowhands way of putting on and taking off a pair of true shotgun chaps!! Vaya Con Dios
