  • While doing my morning bouncing exercise I go over the top causes and places where bike and e-bike accidents happen.
1 Impaired Riding: Accidents involving cyclists under the influence of alcohol or drugs, impairing their judgment and coordination, leading to collisions or falls.
2 Poor Road Conditions: Accidents caused by hazards such as potholes, debris, or uneven surfaces on roads or bike paths, leading to loss of control and falls.
3 Riding on Sidewalks: Collisions involving cyclists riding on sidewalks, often due to pedestrians or obstacles unexpectedly entering the cyclist's path.
4 Failure to Yield: Accidents where either the cyclist or the motorist fails to yield the right of way, leading to collisions.
5 Right-Hook Accidents: Happen when a vehicle makes a right turn in front of a cyclist traveling in the same direction, resulting in a collision.
6 Left-Turn Accidents: Occur when a vehicle turns left in front of an oncoming cyclist, leading to a collision.
7 Rear-End Collisions: When a vehicle hits a cyclist from behind, often due to distracted driving or failing to maintain a safe following distance.
8 Intersection Collisions: Accidents at intersections where cyclists and vehicles cross paths, often due to drivers failing to yield or cyclists running red lights or stop signs.
9 Dooring Accidents: Occur when a parked car's door is suddenly opened into the path of an oncoming cyclist, leading to collisions and injuries.
10 Collisions with Motor Vehicles: Accidents involving cars, trucks, or motorcycles are the most common and often result in severe injuries or fatalities for cyclists.
Visibility is Crucial: Over 60% of bicycle accidents occur during low-light conditions, emphasizing the importance of reflective gear and lights, especially during dawn and dusk.
Helmet Efficacy: Wearing a properly fitted helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by up to 85% and the risk of brain injury by up to 88%.
Left Turns are Risky: Approximately one-third of all bicycle accidents involve collisions with vehicles making left-hand turns.
Sidewalk Dangers: Contrary to popular belief, cycling on sidewalks can be more dangerous than riding on the road due to increased risks of collisions with pedestrians and cars at intersections.
Mind the Doors: One of the most common causes of urban cycling accidents is getting "doored" by parked cars. Always ride a safe distance away from parked cars to avoid this hazard.
Hand Signals Matter: Using hand signals to indicate turns and stops can significantly reduce the risk of accidents by communicating your intentions to other road users.
Maintain Your Ride: Regular maintenance checks, including tire pressure, brakes, and chain, can help prevent mechanical failures that could lead to accidents.
Beware of Blind Spots: Many drivers have blind spots where they cannot see cyclists. Avoid lingering in these blind spots and always make eye contact with drivers before crossing their path.
Driveways Are Dangerous: A significant number of bicycle accidents occur near driveways, where drivers may not expect cyclists. Approach driveways cautiously and be prepared to stop if necessary.
Safety in Numbers: Research shows that cycling in groups or with other cyclists can improve safety by increasing visibility and awareness among motorists.
These facts can provide valuable insights into bicycle safety and help your audience stay safe while riding.
I am working on more e-bike safety videos and they will all be posted in my e-bike playlist

I had an ebike accident Memorial Day weekend. Two fractures in my knee, banged up shoulder and much road rash all over. Even my big toe got jammed up and bruised. Landes just a foot from thr main road. Thank God I'm alive! I was trying to jump the curb to get back on the sidewalk from a "bike" lane that had run out. I am paying for it now. Started my summer on crutches 😢 Now I'm in PT for my shoulder and knee. My accident happened because I was too confident on that bike. I have ridden motorcycles for over 15 yrs and felt that this ebike was no big deal. I was doing 20 mph when I hit that curb. It's a BIG DEAL! Thanks for educating others and reading my comment. Be safe out there!

I'm very sorry you had your accident but I'm very happy you were able to take the time to leave your experience in the comments section hopefully it will help other people I think it was very educational. I have a lot more respect 4 transitioning onto and off of a sidewalk after my accident I reduce my speed when I'm on the sidewalk because there are just too many possible dramas that can be encountered. It's a lot easier to drive in the middle of the road except for all the cars and the sidewalks don't have cars but lordy they sure have everything else thanks again hope you get better real soon.

My dad drove a ambulance for years and he always talked about very bad accidents (many of them fatal). The most important thing is that you always take care of yourself and don't relay on someone else.

I agree you have to take care of yourself because if you don't help yourself you're not going to be any help for anybody else eventually.

When I was a kid, I drove my ten speed over a slotted sewer cover. It threw me into a phone pole and I broke my collar bone. Years later, I had one to many adult beverages, I came up to a red light on my motorcycle and forgot to put my feet down. Same bike a few months later, my shoe lace got caught on the shifter and again I had to replace a mirror.

I had a couple friends I worked with and they both admitted at one time or another they had stopped at a red light at night on their motorcycle after a few drinks and then fell over before it turned green

    Oh, I just remembered.
I recently heard of an old friend getting hurt on an e-bike.
He bought an old house to repair then flip, and found it in the trash.
It worked and he was riding it until it just locked up and threw him into a pile of junk.
His leg was severely cut ,requiring several surgeries. There’s one for ya’.
I guess the moral is , “You can gofer wood but you shouldn’t ride go fer e-bikes. That you found in the trash.
Unless your an Ace e-bike mechanic.
I have no Idea what was wrong with the thing. Maybe a stray broken part in the works that would allow it to work until it moved and jammed things up. Spooky.

I didn't know it was legal to ride on the sidewalk. I saw a really cool e-tricycle someone was reviewing here on CZcams. It made me want one. I'm scared of a two wheeler.

The best adage for riding a motorcycle is to ride like people can't see you. Meaning to always be prepared to avoid stupid people 😅

Hey Oscar I agree it's like we're invisible I find that since I'm retired and don't have to be in a hurry I can use different routes and reduce my exposure to heavy traffic by a large amount. In fact we have a couple of trails that go for miles that are very pleasant

I’ll look into it Robb. Thanks.
My provider (tormentor?) offers home wifi internet. Just not here.
      It’s maddening.
Political strife is strangling this nation. It seems disruptive behavior is more profitable than working .
The wisdom of sanitation workers has always said “the biggest lumps float to the top”.
      Seems truer than ever.

That was the plan. I spent a bunch of money and time only to find the infrastructure for useful internet access is sub standard here. It’s like the time before telephone service was commonly available. The only difference is that telephone communications over copper lines are failing too. My internet service provider is currently having trouble delivering email to the normal apps on iPads and kindle fire tablets. You need to get a separate app that is failing. It’s pathetic.
I’m on the verge of quill pens ,homemade ink and carrier pigeons! The Pony Express would provide more dependable mail delivery too.
As it stands , I would not give a dime to any politician, of any party, unless it was put towards the cost of incarceration and recovering the wages waisted on them as they indulged in shameful self service and in some cases treason.
Sorry. I’m extremely pissed! At most of them!
