- Glacier Basin Campground was our home base in Rock Mountain National Park for 4 nights. We visited in September of 2020 in our 21-foot A-Frame Camper. During that time, the campground was at 40% capacity due to COVID-19. We were only able to drive through loops B & C for this campground tour. We also walked over to the Group camping loop.
Glacier Basin Campground has 150 sites. 73 of those sites are tent camping only. There are bath houses with flush toilets. For RV owners, there is a dump station and a fresh water fill area. There are no hook ups in this campground. In Loops A & B, generators are allowed during certain hours. In loop C & D generators are not permitted.
In each site, there is a picnic table, a tent pad, and a fire ring with grills. When we were there, Colorado was under a fire ban, so no campfires were allowed, even for cooking. You could us a fuel stove with a shut off to cook with.

From the NPS website: A pleasant mix of Douglas fir, Lodgepole pine, Ponderosa pine, and the occasional Engelmann spruce forests the campground, offering equal amounts of sun and shade. Grasses, shrubs and seasonal wildflowers fill the open meadows.
On Bear Lake Road. At major intersection for Park & Ride, turn left, following signs for Glacier Basin Campground.

I love the bear lockers, obviously they are enforced for safety of the campers and the bears BUT we loved that it allowed us to keep organized and at night the metal got cool and could kind of be used as a beer fridge...brought back memories just seeing you drive past them lol. looks like an awesome campground. Bummer that the trees had to be removed but you are spot on with the silver lining of the more opened up views. cheers!
If you get to RMNP, I would highly recommend this campground! Bear boxes are so important. Thanks for commenting!
I love seeing all the tall trees reaching to the sky with the mountains in the background, absolutely beautiful! Reminds me of song with country roads taking me home in the lyrics. This is a campground that has spectacular scenery. Thanks Kay, appreciate these videos so much! ☺️🌲🌲🌲
The trees are part of the reason people are sad about this campground, Gil. The Pine Beetle killed many of the trees. Only a few talks ones left. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much!
You’re welcome.
What a lovely campsite, love the views on the mountains. Great job parking Alf! 👍👍 Thank you for making me discover this campsite, looking forward to seeing more from RMNP!
Thank you for taking a look, Alex! This was a great home base for the week. Lots of place to get to from here.
Thumbs Up! Looks like a nice campground. Fire ban stinks but understood. Thanks for sharing.
It was the perfect place for us to be that week. The sunsets were pretty enough that we didn’t miss having a campfire. 😄
what a fast parking lot
Well, we drove on the roads. People park along side the roads.

They don't have the cabins open yet do they. I know they were redoing them. I live 45 minutes from here. I go there for picnics all the time. I live in the town you went through went you got off the 25. You went right by my house.
The cabins are still closed. I will make sure to wave the next time we are through that way. 😄 We loved our trip!

@@HappyTrailsHiking Always!!!
You're making me want to get a camper...
Haha. You can tent camp here too. 😉
Love your video's. We have an A-Frame as well. We should start to add all of the A-frame campers on the Nomads Near Me App. We always are looking for other A-Frame campers when we get out. Happy Trails!!!
Thank is nice of you to say, Christopher! That is an interesting idea. It is neat to see other A-Frames in the campgrounds. We always attract attention in campgrounds. 😄 We aren’t doing meetups right now. But always enjoy talking about campers with other people. Thanks for watching!
