Hi! For now I'll remain anonymous, but you can call me M! I'm a Portuguese Kpop stan and a huge fan of Dreamcatcher!
Today I bring you a very special video. 'VirtuouS', Dreamcatcher's 10th mini album, was released earlier today (in Portugal’s time) and with it the MV for JUSTICE, the title track. While watching the MV I couldn't help but notice scenes that were very similar to scenes from old MVs so I decided to do this video and see if other InSomnias thought of the same or other moments!

Thanks for mentioning Endless Night! Their Japanese songs are sometimes forgotten which is really sad as they are as good as the Korean ones!

@@mt123pt ykw girl. This made me think. Sand kinda prevents things from catching fire that easily that's why they often put sand on fires to stop them. It's even more effective than water.
So for as long as the crown was half buried in the sand, it did not catch fire. As soon as someone pulled it out (maybe triggering a curse or smth) it caught fire because the sand or some barrier was no longer there to contain the curse.
There's also a sense of eternity associated with a burning flame (especially seen in rituals and some religions like zoroastrianism, christianity) so like, an eternal flame; an eternal curse. At the end of the mv the arrow hits the crown, shattering it. Thus also killing the fire, as if ending the curse.
I am reaching far off here and just trying to make it make sense. I didn't expect to go this deep😂😂

It's probably all just a coincidence, but if it's true it's amazing that the crown's story started so many years ago
i can think of a few: the set that they’re dancing at kinda reminds me of the “deja vu” set, it also reminds me of “you and i”, sua’s scenes with the dancers and the flickering reminds me of “chase me”, the flame effect right before dami’s part (1:33) and at the end reminds me of “good night”, handong’s scene reminds me of “odd eye” a bit, but it also reminds me of the “celestial dreams” film, the scenes with the lights (for example: 1:38) remind me of “endless night”, this particular scene (2:41) reminds me of “piri”

The last one you mentioned of Yoohyeon glowing would perhaps also match JiU glowing while lying on the table in Deja Vu
the barcode on Dami's face also reminds me a lot of Vision/Maison. Also, I think the 8th person at the end might be JiU from Deja Vu.

Maybe Handong goes with Maison either way the wings, it’s a reach since they didn’t have wings in maison but they were godlike or angelic
Not a bad connection, but some people here in the comments mentioned the 2022 Seasons Greetings 'Celestial Dreams' and in the teaser (part2 ver.) Handong is dressed in white holding a sphere, probably the closest thing to what we see in Justice
Yoohyeon biting the apple also reminds me of the chase me choreo when sua mimes biting an apple (about the 1:40 mark in the chase me mv)
And about the 0:55 mark when gahyeon grabs her neck reminds me of her first part in boca!
Oh nice! You're the first person I've seen who remembered that dance move of SuA!
The blurry light during Dami’s rap reminds me of her bridge in Odd Eye.

I know, right? That's why now, with the help of other InSomnia, I've discovered many more references than what I originally saw when I watched the MV the first few times
I fell like their almost every moves from their old choreographys. Im going crazy, almost every moves , every frames of this mv from old songs . I feel like watching their journey. Journey for justice i guess :). They nailed it one more time. They re on another level. Ty for video and in time ppl will find more references i think.

Yes, many people pointed that out!
What I noticed is that they're breaking apart the scenes they're referencing, which is in theme to Justice and breaking the curse. Yoohyeon biting an apple is a reference to SuA in BEcause but in the next scene Dami stabbed the apple, essentially breaking the apple's curse (in BEcause the apple represent SuA's unwitting downfall to her dark obsessive side). We see JiU tied up, referencing SuA in RoSE Blue and her own nightmare in the Nightmare era, but in the next scene JiU managed to escape, breaking out of the rope (in RoSE Blue the reason she was tied up was her succumbing to the crystal, JiU breaking out of her binds is a metaphor for her freeing the other members from the crystal's curse).
Also, I noticed some scenes reference the opposite feeling of what they're originally reference. In Handong's scene, I feel like she referenced herself in Deja Vu, but instead of her being lonely and paranoid of the many knights watching her we instead have her surrounded by lights and she herself holding onto a globe of light, representing warmth and hopefulness. JiU closing her own eyes directly references a lot of Dreamcatcher, but most notably herself in Odd Eye. The difference is that while in Odd Eye (this can be taken in two ways) her act of blindfolding can mean she rid herself of seeing the ugly truth of no Utopia or her inability to see the truth, the fact that there is no Utopia. But in here, she is sure of herself, willingly blindfolding herself, undoubtedly becoming Lady Justice herself (the reason why Lady Justice often portrayed as blindfolded is because Justice is impartial, unbiased to everyone). This one seems a bit reach but in OOTD, no one ever get the crown, not even the girls themselves as shown in the Crown ARG there is an audio recording of them fighting for the crown. But here Siyeon is the one that got it, but instead of keeping it for herself she throws it away to Gahyeon, who holds a bow, and shoot it, destroying the crown. Gahyeon obviously referenced Yoohyeon in Boca, but she is focused when drawing the bow, she has intent to use it unlike we see with Yoohyeon which felt like unwilling and pained as she shoots her bow in Boca.
There are also color filters throughout the whole MV that reminds me to other MVs. The warm, red-coppery light reminds me a lot of Deja Vu, Maison, and Bon Voyage. The cold blueish and purple light reminds me of Scream, RoSE Blue, BEcause, and Vision. The absence of light (aka flickering lights) in some of the scenes reminds me of Chase Me, Good Night and You and I. The neon, futuristic lights reminds me of What, Endless Night, Odd Eye, and OOTD. The spotlights and full white backdrop reminds me of Piri and Breaking Out. Shame that there isn't any natural outdoor light (Fly High) or pink toned light (Boca), then again pink light is rarely seen even in fictional settings, pink is a very themed light.
Please take this with a grain of salt, I'm just rambling at this point lmao, this MV is just so good for my theoritical brain

Seriously, I hadn't thought that deeply about the apple being stabbed or made the connection with JiU being tied up and SuA's fear. Excellent observations!
Great breakdown!! I also really agree about how this MV deconstructs and gives a new ending to all the scenes from the previous MV's they reference, like this MV is about the members overcoming the evils present in the previous storylines.
The flaming arrows remind me more of the flaming flowers from Odd Eye. And the end with the phone also reminds me of the end of OOTD with the computer.

The red threads behind Siyeon at the start of the first chorus as a reference to Breaking Out?
I put it in the following scenes, but I forgot about the first one LOL
I posted this on the r/dreamcatcher subreddit before the song was released, but my theory was that in the VersuS duology there are 2 parallel worlds - one where DC are the villains who serve the crown (OOTD), and one where they are the heroes (Justice). And that the versions of DC who are the heroes, are the ones who experienced everything from the Nightmare series, to Deja Vu, to ROSE BLUE, to the Dystopia series, to BEcause, then to the Apocalypse series by moving through each parallel world trying to be a force of goodness. Sometimes they didn't succeed like in the Dystopia series or had to leave the world behind like in the Apocalypse series. Then when this MV came out and there were so many references to their previous MVs, and even the choreo had many references to their old choreo, I was like damn maybe I'm onto something!! Hahaha. This time the heroes triumphed over the Crown, and renewed their conviction to their mission by recalling their past.

Gahyeon's hair reminded me more of JiU's hair at the end of BEcause. Gahyeon's wig in Odd Eye wasn't so neat 🤣

Just a couple:
During Dami's "guiding me up" scene/line and just before her rap verse she wields a sword similar to one carried by Sua in Scream.
Also the eighth mysterious figure arriving in the penultimate scene wears an outfit which appears almost identical to those worn by Dark Jiu/Yoohyeon in Deja Vu..
Though I wonder if the same figure may be Ymenehcra or Shasha from OOTD, now that Justice saw The Crown destroyed by GahSing and its curse possibly broken.
Handong with wings and bring moon lamp it reminds me DC 2022 SG Celestial Dreams.

i might be mistaken, but jiu in the chains & the burning arrows could additonally be references to dante's inferno and the nine circles of hell, which would fit nicely with the justice theme. i dunno if they've been referencing dante's inferno in other MVs, but even if not, i think this MV also, in addition to calling back to old MVs, plays a lot with sinner/hell/heaven imagery (e.g. the apple, handong as an angel)
I don't have the knowledge to talk about dante's inferno, but I agree with the imagery of a sinner you spoke of. When I saw the MV teaser, the first thing I thought was that the villain Gahyeon from the last album was being punished for her sins with those arrows in her back and the dance spoiler made me think that the villains had been captured because there is a movement in which they have their wrists together, perhaps representing being handcuffed
And yeah, many scenes with fire = hell, Handong dressed as an angel = heaven ..
@@mt123pt yeah the only reason I even caught the chain & burning arrows as possible references is because another kpop group (CIX) has a whole MV using the same imagery and they explicitely state they are referencing dante's inferno (it's the MV for jungle if you're interested!), but I definitely agree with you that this seems very focused on villains and punishments!

I think you and I are feeling the same. The room kinda reminds me of You and I mv cuz they were dancing in a room with the same scale as this.
