Creative Director sounds more like a project manager that also oversees the artistic aspect. Whereas Art Director is more tailored towards all artistic aspects.
If anyone has seen Mad Men a good way of thinking about this that Don is the creative director and Sal is the art director.
thanks! it sucks mad men isn’t on netflix anymore
@@sof9861 it's still on prime if you care enough to get that to watch it
this is an amazing explanation!!
now I can tell what my sis is and what I am !!!
- I'm an art director I do thing ! imaging thing and make it into real! and more I can take what other say and translated into scene! and turned into movie with many technical things!
- my sis Is the Creative director because she tells me Do this ! because It will make sure people will got cry on this scene and will love it ! , and she ready to observe what others are saying and make a scenario and ask me to start making !
I really got motivated when I'm with her !
I graduated in marketing inspired by Don Draper and learning graphic design . I like the strategic creative side for sure
Amazing, im a 5 years experienced graphic/ui designer/ thankyou so much for yr wonderful teaching love it
Thank you Mark! I was told by my agencies that I need to focus on becoming an Art Director and the others say Creative Director, but now I know which one I want to pursue thanks to your knowledge!
Ok! Best of luck... we'll try to produce more shortly!
Thank you. I'm applying for the role of a Creative Director. You just made it very clear as to how I should approach this!
hello! how did it go?
Thank you for making this video. It cleared things up for me
Thanks for the amazing informations and your opinion. I look forward to seeing more videos !
That was very clear! Thanks for the great explaining
Best explanation, thank you
Thank you so much sir! This solved it for me!
Thank you. Have a great day.
Hi Mark,
Thanks for your great video. It’s very articulate and give such a good description of differences we tween one director and another and give some good insights into the world of print media, whether it’s for magazines visuals online or outdoor advertising, i.e. billboards,, subway & bus art etc.
I’m in a funny position, perhaps in my third or fourth midlife crisis when it comes to career. My background is the motion picture industry, with a lot of my work being on national and international TV commercials. Obviously The production companies deal very directly with broadcast coordinators, with the clients, with creative directors, production designers, art directors, and various other departments from the ad shops.
With over 50,000 hours and experience on commercials, I’m hoping to work in some creative area at a commercial art studio or at an ad agency.
I’m fluent in Spanish and can relocate anywhere on the map.
I’m curious if you have any suggestions. As with anything I’m more interested in the wealth and adventures and new life experiences, more than just a big bucks.
Cheers, and thanks again for such an insightful video,

Hired!
CD have more business orientations in mind.. Great vid.
This guy the voice of Greg Universe???
Hahaha..... well if my day job doesn't work out...
...and now I can't unhear it
Byyye I didn’t think anyone else here would have heard that 😭
Thanks, I'm definitely more interested in Art direction,
thank you! this was very helpfull and VERY inspiring
this guy is funny and informative, i like him.
Thanks for the info. Now you only need to invest in a better microphone and use some minimal amounts of audio noise reduction, and your videos will step up to the next level. Also, your camera angles needs to be further apart. An old journalism term is to think of a circle around your subject and keep your two cameras at a 30 degree difference to each other.
Martin thx for the feedback!
Thanks! Very helpful!
Hello, thank you for this great advice
Thanks for this. God Bless! :)
Nice
Very well said
Hey! Just trying to break that down further. Would you say it’s accurate that a Creative Director is more conceptual and goal driven with the client and senior/junior designers. While an Art Director oversees the production side of things, like printing, and works with designers to be sure everything looks top notch to go to final production. But the Art Director may not be as conceptual as far as brand development. (This maybe too far, but an art director could be like a “Final Production Director” ish).
Thank you !
thanks for making these informative video's.
While listening to the video's i am making notes and improving my own workflow.
And it helped a lot c:
Same here! First video I've ever made a note while watching it.
Thanks!! Not sure where this will go, but thanks a LOT for the kind words. Means a lot.
What if you feel you can do all three...brand, art and creative directing. Which route should one go? Should I intern to find out for sure?
Ik this is a year later but if you like them both the same, creative director pays more normally
This is like 3 years later but which did you eventually go for?
i think it become understanable if you add some visual in your video
0:56 can you please clarify this part about environmental designer/ graphics? I know Environmental Design as the discipline where you design spaces but is not determined by your capacity to draw by hand or draw by computer like the graphic designer.
I’m actually both so creative art director? Lo
Christie Weber hahaha! I hear ya! I’d say I’m the same...
My dream is to become a creative director for a fashion brand. What was your career path to get to where you are?
@@nm0852 hope this will help. for example, you can go for fashion designer or product designer that focus on fashion design and as you gradually gaining experience you can be promoted as creative director
Thank you 🙏
Unknown Lifeform you’re welcome!
Beware of Creative Directors with degrees in things other than art or design, they usually have no design chops, are very square and got the job through connections rather than creative ability.
1:06 What is a VP?What do you mean from Creative Director to VP?
vice president
I am a Creative Director and in my career, I have seen many many useless brand strategists : they just report what they see, they don’t understand trends. Despite having seen a bunch of toxic CD, rarely have I seen incompetent ones. AD+COPY+CD are more than enough to get it. Good brand strategists are too rare, that’s a fact. A CD is crucial to lead a team, they have the high level strategic and creative vision. Replace the brand strategist with the Copy, free the AD & the Copy time and they’ll smash it while the CD can teach them to level up their thinking
that make scense!
interesting take
Hi! So if I studied international Business and I enjoy discussing ideas with the clients creative director would be best for me?
Hi! I'm in the same situation, also studied international business and I want to go to a more creative side. How's it doing for you?
well said :)
Fahd Mohamed thanks!!!

@@grace-ps7mcI’m going for art history
Keşke biri şuna Türkçe altyazı eklese...
what if you want to do both?
do both !
Please someone help im on the process in applying to colleges I cant decide whats the best route art direction or graphic design, i have a pasión for art and im creative art director route caught my eye for a while but whats the best way also any recommendations for minors like marketing, fine arts, digital art?
Hopefully this got you in time. 90% of creative directors come from graphic design but you’ll need to familiarise yourself with multiple disciplines. Namely, videography, animation/motion graphics, web/ux design and marketing. Most of these, apart from marketing, are covered in a good graphic design degree
@@puqorganicapparel4172Hi, base on your experience, is it possible for a person that has a bachelor in tech become a creative director eventually? If so which route with this degree would help me to get into this position.
Can someone become an Art director after getting a degree in Architecture?
I'm a creative/art director at a print design studio and I studied Journalism lol. Anything is possible. Infact, whatever you've learnt in architecture will help a lot!
@@mehakwalia13 Thank you
