  • A lot of textile techniques can be used with wire for making jewelry. This video shows working with the technique “Slentring” or “fingerloop Brading” in English.
    The material used is 0.8 mm sterling wire.
    For information on slentring and more patterns, have a look at: fingerloop.org/patterns.html

    I have watched many videos on this subject, I was a machinist and understand tools but am trying to learn more in the jewelry business
    You are one of few that uses your tools correctly. Too many You Tube Vid's demonstrate how NOT to correctly use a tool.
    You can obviously teach techniques and proper tool use as demonstrated, and I learned today. Thank you so much

      Thank you, I appreciate that. 😊 Yeah, I think, that a lot of people considered tools (and more tools) as a solution and don't take the time to practice. Thanks for watching!

      Actually it's a very old technique, but I haven't seen it use in jewellery much, so I thought I'd spread it around. You're welcome and thanks for watching!

      @@ShapingSilver i just tried making a bracelet and instead of using a vice (which i dont have) i just used a clamp and clamped the ends of the wire directly to my table and it worked out ok

    I am so impressed by the way that you manage to keep things so straight and uniform....I am a big fan of this as it makes a much finer piece!

    Hello,
    your bracelet is very beautiful. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.
    I would have some questions... Which gauche of wire you used for the silverbracelet and is bezel wire 0,4-0,5mm (24-22g) for the ends okay? In the video the bracelet seems a little soft. Gets it strong enough in the tumbler and by hammering?
    Sorry for my bad English.
    Greetings from Germany
    Maren

    • @ShapingSilver
      @ShapingSilver  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Maren. The technique will scale with the wire gauge. The size I used is 0.8 mm. After annealing I drew it down from 1 mm, so it's medium soft and the brading and hammering will harden it. If you think it's too soft, bend it in the opposite direction to harden it. Tumbling will not work harden things. Kein Problem, ich spreche auch ein bisschen Deutsch. ;-)

    In summary, double strand of outer wires always go towards the center, and they go on top of the other two double strands
