Wonderful video. I’m teaching my horse how to rope and will need the horn space so the last method will work wonders for my situation. Thank you!

Thank you again Mr. Moreland. Question: Would you use mecate with shank bit or only with snaffle?

Like the way you tie your to the saddle

Thank you Mr. Moreland, this was very helpful. I sometimes see that people stick the Mecate in their belt loop, but then pull the lead all the way through the belt, and not leave a loop in the Mecate. Would you consider this more dangerous than the way you showed it?

Hi Elisabeth G, I'm glad you found this helpful Thanks for writing. Yes, a person can pull it through the belt loop only but you have to be careful the end of the lead doesn't fall & drag the ground because the horse could step on it and possibly break the belt loop the mecate is through or, even worse, pull the rider off.

Trying to figure this out! I wear no belt and have an Aussie saddle. Oh well.

Without a belt that will be difficult with an Aussie saddle. Thank you for writing. I hadn't thought about this with an Aussie saddle.
