    lot of comments on here about Vikings wearing Samurai armor... this is completely not what is going on. What the commentators don't know is that this style of armor is called lamellar armor. Lamellar armor is a type of early body armor, made from small rectangular plates (scales or lamellae) of iron, leather (rawhide), or bronze laced into horizontal rows. Lamellar armor was used over a wide range of time periods in Europe, the Middle East, and across Asia.
    Lamellar armor is one of three early body types, the other two being scale armor and laminar armor. The Rus' (Russian vikings) were very fond of this kind of armor. What the commentator's don't understand is their modern idea of a Samurai didn't even exist at the time in history. This Lamellar armor is 100% accurate for the vikings of this time period. Next thing you know is some one is going to freak out about the "Norman" style shields and say that's not accurate either. Nothing wrong with not knowing this stuff but making an absolute comment like 'dude I saw one man with a fucking samurai armor on hahaha" this only shows that you are absolutely wrong and absolutely don't have any real knowledge about either cultures, armor or even their existence in time. Misinformation is a cancer of our age, like "half of viking warriors were woman" this is simply not true at all but millions of people believe it because they clicked onto some BS from a BS artist with an agenda on some trendy progressive website. "Crush your enemies see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of the woman".

      Well, to be fair most Vikings did not even have armour, though these are supposed to be Varangian guard so sure they could perhaps afford some Lamellar armour.
      Is there really millions that think half of Viking warrior were female? I mean females were allowed to be warriors but just like today only the absolutely strongest most fit women can keep up with the average active man.

    I enjoyed your video guys, but perhaps a little more footage of the arts and crafts in practice? It would be nice to see examples of pressblech being made or food being prepared, perhaps some interviews with some of the groups that participated. The fighting stuff is great but more of the cultural stiff would be cool. Otherwise it was good.

      site your information. Russia is not Viking. Slove is not Viking. Their has never been a Viking grave dug up with lamar in it. Their is no tapastres with a depicted lamar armor in it. Their is no carved stone, wood , casted items depicted with lamar. It wasn't used by the Verangenan Guard. It's a reenactorism.

I would love to participate in one, but without the armor and just be out there with like a pelt and two axes berserker style.

      have you ever noticed that when their shield is down at their stomach and their sword is held above them? their shield is protecting their body and they have their swords up to protect their head, their swords are up like that because it is also the easiest place to land a strike, you're probably not even strong enough to hold a sword so I think it's time you sit in your place

    Interesting fights. I did notice that the armor Sigurd is wearing is not of Viking origin, but more closely resembles traditional Samurai armor, which was designed to make enemy blows slide off the angled sides. Besides that and a few other hiccups though, it was an excellent battle indeed. I hope that one day, I might be able to fight against your champions from my specialist league!

      +Alexander LTArkel hey mate. the trade routes back then (8th to 11th century) were well established and as a result amour types varied due to far and wide influences, for example, my samurai style armour is of eastern/asian influence which is why is resembles samurai armour. I portray an elite varangian guardsmen, so I would have the wealth to buy the best equipment and change styles according to my preference. the varangian guard were made up of hired mercenaries mostly of whom were of northern origin, but that doesn't mean they would have necessarily kept their traditional northern armours.

    • @arkel9

    • @thepheasantsrevolt4827
      @thepheasantsrevolt4827 Před 8 lety +4

      +Alexander LTArkel You're missing something completely. What Jorth was saying is that due to well-established trading routes, the vikings and Europeans had access to varying styles and influences according to where they went and where they traded. This does not mean that they wore "Samurai armour," but it does mean that they'd been influenced by the _style_ of the armour. What it's also known as is "lamellar" style armour, which was used by the Anglo-Saxons, other Europeans, and Vikings. _That_ is the style of armour that you'll see vikings wearing.
