lot of comments on here about Vikings wearing Samurai armor... this is completely not what is going on. What the commentators don't know is that this style of armor is called lamellar armor. Lamellar armor is a type of early body armor, made from small rectangular plates (scales or lamellae) of iron, leather (rawhide), or bronze laced into horizontal rows. Lamellar armor was used over a wide range of time periods in Europe, the Middle East, and across Asia.
Lamellar armor is one of three early body types, the other two being scale armor and laminar armor. The Rus' (Russian vikings) were very fond of this kind of armor. What the commentator's don't understand is their modern idea of a Samurai didn't even exist at the time in history. This Lamellar armor is 100% accurate for the vikings of this time period. Next thing you know is some one is going to freak out about the "Norman" style shields and say that's not accurate either. Nothing wrong with not knowing this stuff but making an absolute comment like 'dude I saw one man with a fucking samurai armor on hahaha" this only shows that you are absolutely wrong and absolutely don't have any real knowledge about either cultures, armor or even their existence in time. Misinformation is a cancer of our age, like "half of viking warriors were woman" this is simply not true at all but millions of people believe it because they clicked onto some BS from a BS artist with an agenda on some trendy progressive website. "Crush your enemies see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of the woman".
Well, to be fair most Vikings did not even have armour, though these are supposed to be Varangian guard so sure they could perhaps afford some Lamellar armour.
Is there really millions that think half of Viking warrior were female? I mean females were allowed to be warriors but just like today only the absolutely strongest most fit women can keep up with the average active man.
Gooztr yes a BS story came out a while back and the feminazi's on twitter ran with it. its all a bunch of hogwash like most things they say.
I didn't recognize any Samurai armour anyway... non of the armor in the video even look like the Samurai Armour
well i dont see much viking amour either, i do see helmets from later periods, and strange elongated plywood shields, and that funny fantasy amour.
robert paulson OMG YES FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE GETS IT HAHA
Nice video mate thanks for the post
Looks great guys!!! :)
Keep up the good work!
I enjoyed your video guys, but perhaps a little more footage of the arts and crafts in practice? It would be nice to see examples of pressblech being made or food being prepared, perhaps some interviews with some of the groups that participated. The fighting stuff is great but more of the cultural stiff would be cool. Otherwise it was good.
man Sigurd is a fucking beast
I hope you all had a great time.
You´re very good brother !!!
CZcams should have a 💖 button
loving the lamellar are these a Varangian group or is everyone professional mercenaries
A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL
NOT A BIT OF BLOOD DID FALL.
HAVE FUN GARE
Super Video Daumen hoch von mir 👍👍
Nice shots, do you happen to have any of troops in a shield wall formations or the front lines?
as the history conterpart of this dude sugests: Sigurd is a beast lool
SIGURD IS A BEAST A GOD A WARRIOR!
ive hit sigurd with a javelin a couple of times lol
where did this take place?
did the archer use a arrow rest
Cool video! Where is this?
Tamborine Mountain/Eagle Heights, QLD
does anyone know where you csn buy viking style lamellar armor? kinda like what Sigurd is wearing
Vikings didn't use lamar armor.
are you stupid?
no I'm educated you fucking moron. do some research before you spout off.
you do know that the Russians used lamellar armor? and the norse did raid russia and lamellar armor was used in finland as well which the norse raided as well
site your information. Russia is not Viking. Slove is not Viking. Their has never been a Viking grave dug up with lamar in it. Their is no tapastres with a depicted lamar armor in it. Their is no carved stone, wood , casted items depicted with lamar. It wasn't used by the Verangenan Guard. It's a reenactorism.
Those with shields that was a littel round at the top but sharp at the bottoom, where they supose to be vikings??
they portray the varangian guard
Nooo. don't let the actors put their own armour together - not without some strict check-ups.
every suit of armour in the group has to be cheked by the leader and it has to be completely historically accurate. this is allvarangian/viking/rus armour and it is all based on historical finds and pictures
Can black people participate in the games?
no fuck off
lololol
XD I would think so
yes, any group that says otherwise is should be reported and struck off from doing public shows
Where was this filmed?
Mount Tamborine/Eagle Heights, QLD
I am a modern ásatrú living in Murray Kentucky United States needless to say I have no one to really talk about my beliefs and lifestyle is there anyone out there that can maybe turn in the right direction of others like me
Did one of them have an open faced helmet with no mouth protection ? Isn't that dangerouse in real steel combat?
our training focuses on not hitting the mouth, neck and some other areas, although accidents still occur now and again. we also don't hit as hard as we can, they are controlled attacks with reasonable force... safety 1st, fun 2nd, victory or glorious death 3rd.
I know most places will have their own way of doing things, but I don't know anything about these reenactments. Do you think there are Viking reenactments with unsharpened blades or something? I would love to participate in one, but without the armor and just be out there with like a pelt and two axes berserker style.
These guys do not know how to fight, they're even aiming for eachother's swords
have you ever noticed that when their shield is down at their stomach and their sword is held above them? their shield is protecting their body and they have their swords up to protect their head, their swords are up like that because it is also the easiest place to land a strike, you're probably not even strong enough to hold a sword so I think it's time you sit in your place
Interesting fights. I did notice that the armor Sigurd is wearing is not of Viking origin, but more closely resembles traditional Samurai armor, which was designed to make enemy blows slide off the angled sides. Besides that and a few other hiccups though, it was an excellent battle indeed. I hope that one day, I might be able to fight against your champions from my specialist league!
he is wearing rus armour. this group reenacts the varangian guard this rus/byzantine style lamellar armour
Is this from australia?
+Hord81 idk people from all around the world do this.
+Timothy Refalo thats cool to see.Greetings from norway
Merde les 9 qui n'aime pas cet vidéo ne sont pas des barbares.
dude I saw one man with a fucking samurai armor on hahaha
+Alexander LTArkel hey mate. the trade routes back then (8th to 11th century) were well established and as a result amour types varied due to far and wide influences, for example, my samurai style armour is of eastern/asian influence which is why is resembles samurai armour. I portray an elite varangian guardsmen, so I would have the wealth to buy the best equipment and change styles according to my preference. the varangian guard were made up of hired mercenaries mostly of whom were of northern origin, but that doesn't mean they would have necessarily kept their traditional northern armours.
So you're saying that vikings used samurai armor? Jorth Gar garrison of the New Varangian Guard Inc
+Alexander LTArkel no they didn't wear samurai armour. I can't rephrase what I just typed so read it more carefully.
hahaha then why did you reply to my comment? I saw a viking with samurai armor that they didnt use, that was the point xD
Or am I missing something? English is not my first language
+Alexander LTArkel You're missing something completely. What Jorth was saying is that due to well-established trading routes, the vikings and Europeans had access to varying styles and influences according to where they went and where they traded. This does not mean that they wore "Samurai armour," but it does mean that they'd been influenced by the _style_ of the armour. What it's also known as is "lamellar" style armour, which was used by the Anglo-Saxons, other Europeans, and Vikings. _That_ is the style of armour that you'll see vikings wearing.
Skal
it sounded like someone was screaming the N word in the first few fights
put him against a real medival fighter like a hmb fighter, then lets see how much he last
They are different time periods, so putting them together would be anachronistic.
Australien people play Viking that´s funny
We love all the Nordic countries and their cultures here in Australia.
@@Xzyel. dont you guys like america to
During which period did the Samurai adopt the use of the 2 handed Norse axe? also this reminds me for the For Honor game, nice cosplay champs
@@jakemarsh8967 That leather lamellar and those weird Roman-esque lether pauldrons certainly are not 'Byzantine armour'
@@jimpickens4067 what I mean to say is that's what it would be if we're talking real armor of the era. And yeah it's not like the Byzantines came up with lamellar but a lot of their troops loved that shit at this point. Sorry for ever doubting you Lord and Savior! xD
I am sorry, but a real fury would have killed all of them a lot faster
'vikings prepare for battle' with kite shields? hahahaha no.
Steampunk Smilodon those are Varangian Guard shields, it's more of an Asian design than a European design so I don't know if they would count as a kite shield but maybe
More Byzantine culture
samurai vikintg wwahahhaha
That's lamellar armour and was used by the Norse Vikings and Varangian guard
ow thanks for the knowledge man
Oh I didn't think the Norse really wore those, huh learn something new every day
fake Viking combat, they fought nothing like this..
Of course the random guy on the internet knows everything.
Coolnicknameguy Indeed the fighting is so fake. Like there is no spinning backflips fany swordplay more twisting and spinning cause they faught exactly like how hollywood movies potray them
It's pretty good but they're not trying to kill each other so there are some limitations
