I planted beans last year with success. You have to think outside the box. I had a foodplot location that is roughly 40-50 yards from a big ag field. I plant with the farmers. Meaning when they plant corn, I plant corn 1-2 weeks later, When they plant beans, I plant beans 1-2 weeks later. In the 2 years I’ve done this method, I have had no issues. And the deer are still out there eating in my beans daily, it’s 3/19/23 today. Long story short, analyze your property and be honest like Jeff always says.

We had about 40 does and fawns 3 years ago. very rarely having mature bucks during the early season. These last 2 years we’ve shot about 20 does total. This year I know we still have work to do since on 150 acres we only see bucks during the rut. The area we have is complete thickness with very minimal food and food plots. I have planted a food plot this year now that I was old enough to afford equipment to rent to clear the brush. I’m hoping this next year we will be able to have plenty of bucks to manage! I have learned so much from you jeff and have been able to harvest 3 beautiful bucks in the last 2 years at 17 thanks to your help

Many very good points here! I plant quite a few smaller plots (1/4 acre to 3/4 acre) and have definitely noticed that bucks frequent certain ones more than others. It makes complete sense that it is based on doe pressure. On a side note, looking forward to trying your radish/clover blend. I've never tried clover. Hoping you might put a few videos out with tips for planting it 🍀.

Always great videos. My success varies on the ag and pressure . The past 2 years we have had way fewer doe, nocturnal big buck and last year a slew of young buck. The surrounding border properties changed. one heavy logged, one switched from hay to grain another went from a couple of hundred acres of clovers to corn silage . One never planted. Then hunters increased. I have a bad problem with border hunters and I have 13 border properties that all hunt. 5 are actual "camps". I plant based on ag and have 2 main road plots with interior trail plots that connect "zones". Oaks flats, mid hill swamp, lower swamp. Neither are touched. Mature maple trail plot to dying ash & beech, some basswood, cherry ,maple. Our entire place is \ with a couple of benches and one gully. facing North West. It's a challenge. You give me great ideas and some perspective.

Very few...less than 5% of all whitetail hunter lands...have enough space on their land. The # is likely smaller than that. Something so simple is ruined by too many food plots poorly located, bad stand locations and poor hunter access routes

Jeff, you mentioned that you have a clover plot. I thought clover was a summer food source? Is a clover plot a good food source for deer in SW WI, or are we better off sticking with big boost brassic, fall power greens, and corn?

A lot of guys miss the obvious, you have to be in a known big buck area. If your store doesn’t have your favorite shoes, you don’t wait two years, you go to another store.
