    I just drained transmission fluid, every spec said should be 4.5 qt . I measured what I drained showed only 3.5 qt so added same amount of new fluid. After running engine for 10min ride trans. dip stick shows I'm over full, half inch over hot mark. Why ? I checked lv before showed full, very confused though truck is shifting fine.

      Small differences shouldn't matter too much- I would shift into each gear after changing the fluid and that should lower your level some. I like things as near perfect as possible, so I would drain a little bit of fluid out to make the level perfect if after driving for a day or two and shifting through gears doesn't lower your hot level. Good luck with your project!- Mike

    I have 2010 titan SE, when i have to change this? It has 224000 miles

      The interval would be based on your usage- I would change it and then change it depending on towing, usage, etc. Good luck! - Mike

    Mike what is the torque specs. for the transmission filter bolts? Thanks

    • @mikesdoityourself
      @mikesdoityourself  Před 5 lety

      70 inch lbs. and tighten in a criss cross pattern to avoid distorting the gasket. Always check for leaks after finishing the job and if the bolts need to be tightened slightly, then so be it. - Good Luck! - Mike.

      So both the transmission filter and the transmission pan are 70-inch lbs? Thanks

      pughwv1234 , did you ever find the answer to this question? Clearly the above doesn’t answer it.

    why does the auto parts store and google say the transmission requires 11,5 quarts ?? what am i missing ?

    • @mikesdoityourself
      @mikesdoityourself  Před 3 lety +1

      Depending on whether you are replacing 100% of the fluid or just replacing what drains down after you take the pan or drain plug off- the numbers won't match because you'll have fluid in the transmission that won't drain out with just one thing that you do. Also, depending on your make/model- you may need to take extra steps or do this process multiple times to change all the fluid. Good luck on your project!- Mike

    Is the 2010 titans transmission filter also maintenance free? Thank you.

    • @mikesdoityourself
      @mikesdoityourself  Před 5 lety

      Yes, the 2010 Nissan Titan trans. Filter is similar to the 2008, you can take it out and possibly clean it or replace it and the pan gasket for around $12 at some online auto parts websites. I would recommend replacing if you have 75k to 100k or more miles on the transmission. Good luck! - Mike.

      Got it, thank you. What ATF would you recommend for 127,000 miles? Also, Synthetic vs regular?

    What kind of transmission fluid did you use? The $10+ a quart Nissan brand or the more reasonably priced market brand? I ask because the owner's manual warns that if you use any fluid other than Nissan's your car will explode. Not literally but they made it seem like a bad idea. There seems to be much debate on the internet regarding this. One side says Nissan is trying to milk customers and the other side says that there special ingredients only in Nissan's fluid and using others will degrade your transmission.

      I went by the dipstick label that says Nissan Matic Fluid J for this year and model. I found some at the auto parts store in the gallon size - Castrol Transmax Import Multi Vehicle ATF for Honda, Toyota, and Nissan. It has a reddish color and is way less expensive than what the dealer charges. On the back of the container it will state that it is recommended for Nissan Matic D and J. It might have been around $20 for the gallon. Thanks for the question.

      I was told Valoline Max Life ATF full synthetic was fine. I've used it with no problems
