Every building is also approved by the city's engineer. The city engineer would be the one to approve and decide what support, and materials should be used to build the building to avoid incidents. Hopefully, no strong earthquake would suddenly take these buildings down, like that's going to make a huge casualty and many lives would be in big danger.

It wouldn't take anywhere near that long. Taking the tallest building on Billionaires Row, the Central Parking Tower, which is 1550 feet tall, I did the calculations and it would take an average of about 44 seconds to go from ground level to the top of the building. Actually, it would be somewhat less than that because the highest floor is lower than the top of the building.

There are certain elements like vaults and buttresses but some buildings lack these supporting elements and still support weight without steel.

Living in nyc with 60k is possible if you wanna live in a ghetto matchbox without saving any money and without kids ( which will happen eventually, its part of life). You will never be able to own anything and renting for so many years without building wealth in real estate is a waste of time and money. You could have multiple properties with 60k in other states. Thats my main point , the lost opportunity for you to be a landlord and buy other investment properties. Instead you live paycheck by paycheck renting a shitty 400 sq feet apartment. Not to mention that ny has horrible taxes , there is no income tax in some states. Open a llc in ny and your business will get eaten alive.
My parents live in “ long island” and both nassau and suffolk county got ridiculously high property taxes. Properties went up a lot as well. No chance in hell to own a 500k property with 12k plus in property taxes with 60k a year lmao. And rents are extremely expensive as well. You will also need a car... good luck with that at fault , ridiculously high car insurance. Long island IS NOT CHEAP AT ALL either.

Just new, not rebuild. Looks good, i'm not saying it's ugly! Blame the old Germans for that, age 80 and up!

As a Native Manhattanite, nothing says it all, of the new unworldly New York as does Billionaire's Row. This is so Un the city I loved. The city has become what a tourist thinks New York should be. Nothing breaks my heart more than what happened to Manhattan. At the end of the day a city is only as good as it's citizens. Congratulations to your outdoor mall, Suburbia in the Sky.

Super interesting how they were able to defeat the wind/sway problem. Last time I was in NYC I was just astounded by how tall and slim these buildings were getting and I definitely wondered how they stayed steady.

one of the newest ones, the super tall one that is only one unit wide, does sway very badly. the tenants have sued because of how unlivable that building is (flooding, swaying issues, electrical problems, the list goes on).
