That was when hockey was still played by real men, the last of a dying breed (who earned $20,000 a season if they were real good). You know, the ones who didn't need helmets to deflect pucks, at a time when the slapshot was popularized by maniacs like Stan Mikita.
This isn't hockey, it's a circus.
The uploader is clearly too young to remember Billy Smith. Smith is well known for his slashing tactics.

I’m surprised Barrasso didn’t make the list. I remember when he wedged his goal stick between himself and the goal catching a forward (I forget who) as he was skating by his net. The force was great enough to break his goal stick in half.

That's what I'm talking about Billy Smith started it. These people that voted this have no idea what the 80s was like Billy Smith was #1 with the slashing and Hextall is #2 . The 2 were definitely the craziest goalies. Billy was the reason why they started wearing shin guards. Even Gretzky knows that.

Oh I have, but I was just keeping it more current. Because most of the time when I bring up older players most kids have no idea who I am talking about. I mean if I told a kid he almost took Lindy Ruff eye out, they wouldn't of believed me that Ruff played in the NHL.

To be fair, #4 wasn't that bad. They were down 6-2 and the goalie was unintentionally hit in the face with the stick of the striker. It was a miracle the goalie didn't get in a fight with the player after such tension.
Fun fact: in #5 they gave Dustin Brown an embellishment penalty.

I was watching that game since us Blackhawks fans were salty watching the freaking COYOTES go to the conference finals that year (after Torres took Hossa out of their series) and watching that call happen made me laugh.

You can't compare those two. Yes Seabrook's hit was bad, yes I agree he should have been suspended as long as he was (if not at least a couple more games), but had it not been for the shortened season the year after Hossa would have missed until January. He wasn't cleared to play until about a week before the lockout ended. It's still a joke they shortened Torres' suspension for that.
Yeah, I don't think Brown deserved a embellishment penalty on that one. As a Kings fan I will admit Brown loves to draw penalties and will act sometimes but not in this case.
Hextall was such a lunatic. Even with his mask on, you can read his expressions, lol. That two-handed axe-slashing is #1 material. Philly has yet to hire a goalie that talented, though.

This definitely wouldn't be a list without Belfour or Hextall.
I appreciate how this montage gets to the point and once it shows each slash it moves on to the next fairly quickly. So many times I've seen equivalent montages take 2, 3, 4+ times the amount of time, showing irrelevant stuff that loses my interest quickly.

Number 4: I am I bruins fan and when we lost Tim Tomas, it was a devastation. But the fact that he said he would retire and then he came back, pissed me off. And I didn't see that game. And seeing that Tim Tomas almost hurt a bruins player is so annoying.
He didn't retire, he decided to take a season off. Then the Bruins traded him to the Islanders. His contract expired with the Islanders, so he took another year off, then went on to join the Panthers for a season.

Crazy idea: When a goalie does something like this, penalize the goalie, not someone substituting to take the penalty. They don't get to put in another goalie for 2, 4, or however many minutes - they must play with an empty net.
If such a penalty is done near the end of a game, when the game's already been decided and inflicting penalty minutes would not have an effect, enforce the penalty on the team's next game, with the team having to start the game for X number of minutes with an empty net.

Fun fact about #1: They pulled kiprusoff and put in that clown in the net just so he could slash him, he was seriously only out there for about 5 minutes, and then they had to put kiprusoff back in the net.

You think golies dont feel pain due to their "armor" but they really do all the slashing on top of the glove hand and all slapping on the chest "trying to hit the puck" really hurts alot sometimes... try it for yourself if you havent played in a real game when the players against you aint your "friend"
