One of my all time favourite songs, which I recently discovered. I really dig the music and the lyrics. Maybe it is also because that cembalo like instrument was used in Czechoslovakia in the 60s 70s in fairy tales, which were still favourite in the time I was a kid, so it might feel nostalgic for me. And nostalgia combined with cynicism is basically my life right now. But screw the ending of the song, really :D

for the past four years ive been thinking about the meaning behind this song. i still cant quite put my finger on it, but this has been my take:
I feel like its about a couple in the perspective of someone is struggling with addiction. They know their addiction is going ultimately ruin the relationship in either death/overdose/sewerslide or heartbreak (i really feel like death because of the whimsical and nostalgic sound - also the wording of lyrics). The speaker (addict) knows they hurt their spouse which is why they admit to being the cynical one for choosing drugs/alcohol over them. The spouse is so hurt they say it wasn't love, but they were in love- they are so angry and hurt that they lash out and say it wasnt love.
Regardless of the meaning, the song will have a special place in my heart.
