  • Cocker Spaniels are dogs belonging to two breeds of the spaniel dog type: the American Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel, both of which are commonly called simply Cocker Spaniel in their countries of origin. In the early 20th century, Cocker Spaniels also included small hunting Spaniels.
    Character: Very lively and exuberant, a tireless and enthusiastic hunter.
    Particularity: The Cocker is susceptible to ear infections and its ears must be checked regularly. It is an independent and intelligent dog that will not tolerate teasing by young children. -

      If you have dogs and no kids your life IS empty sorry to say. The modern world will tell you otherwise, but part of being a living organism is reproducing and you failed that and so will feel unfulfilled. A Four billion year unbroken line of your ancestors fought and struggled and triumphed to make you, and you just decided not to keep it going...

On the kid aspect, never liked the idea of having snivelling smelly daiper filling little mutants running round me eventually growing up and forever leeching off the family recourses waiting for the will to eventually be read to see how much they've won.when the parents have either been put into the ground or cremated. Like i said i have a fantastic life. and besides, i have mutants out there somewhere, i know one took his own life at a young age, and the other? hell she's too busy trying to repopulate the world. so glad i got out of that nightmmare whille i was still young.

    Mine is 13 now. Haven't seem her run at full pace for more than 5 seconds for years now, can't jump. spends most of her time sleeping, has developed a coarse coat with a white shine and her muzzle is fully grey. Has had half her teeth removed by the vet. But still loves food and wags her tail on short walks. There is a subtle beauty in watching a dog within its twilight years, they have a certain aura of wisdom that accompanies them.

    Cocker Spaniels are THE most wonderful dog, ever. I've owned various sporting breed dogs, (all wonderful), but my Cocker Spaniel was extraordinarily sensitive, smart, always above and beyond in every way. And, I can't tell you how many times I was told, "If she ever has puppies..." or, "if she ever needs a home," clearly everyone else could tell how extraordinary she was and would have loved it she was their dog. I was so blessed. Still miss her. Really wonderful to have been able to share almost 17 years of life together!

    I had an English cocker spaniel for 13 years. He had black and fire colors. My family gave it to me to help me overcome a difficult adolescence, marked among others by social incapacity, several serious diseases (with operations) and the death of my father. Sadly, Argos had to leave us, for he was very ill and almost blind. I have to say that he was my friend, my shadow, my partner and an inexhaustible source of joy and unforgettable moments.
    If you have heard that the cockers are crazy, do not listen to anyone who says that, because this is a fantastic breed, full of loyal friends and family. It is true that they have character, but in my view, that makes them more interesting, in fact.
    For you, my dearest Argos, you saved me from myself and a part of my heart will always belong to you.

    I have had the pleasure of four English Cocker Spaniels - black, golden, parti-colour and blue roan. All had their own personalities but all shared the cocker spaniel traits - loyal, obedient, affectionate and energetic. They are easy to train, especially when food treats are used as rewards. I wouldn't have any other breed of dog.

    We bought our beautiful English Cocker Spaniel, Rexi when he was only 3 months old. Sadly he had kidney problems and eventually could hardly walk, so heartbreaking to see Rexi in this situation. Our vet had to put him to sleep on 17 December 2021 a day before his 18th Birthday and before we travelled to a pet friendly motel in Port Macquarie for Christmas, but more importantly Rexi isn't suffering any more with pain. He was the most wonderful fur baby who gave us so much unconditional love, had so much character, so warm, a real gentleman and my husband and I loved him so much. We had a private cremation and have Rexi in a beautiful paw pets urn and have placed in the centre of our dining table. He will always be missed and remain in our hearts forever.

    I had a reddish blonde American cocker spaniel (not pure bred) named Buffy. She was absolutely beautiful. She was quite the character and so full of energy. She was super smart and was potty trained in a week, but boy she was a handful. She didn’t calm down til she was 10! She was obsessed with playing ball and loved all kinds of food, including fruits and veggies. She also had a memory like an elephant. She lived until shortly before her 14 birthday and has been in puppy heaven since 2009. I miss her so much.

      dont worry cockers can live a long healthy life if fed well. im 22 and me and my family owned 5 cockers so far. they died as seniors except from Carl who died at 14 due to cancer(inevitable said the vet,even good diet wouldnt prevent that from happening and he started feeling down for 3 years pretty much,we didnt understand that it was cancer). i now own a 1 year old cocker,brielle. please do not give her anything else to eat apart from her dry food that you buy. they are extremely sensitive (you probably know it already). we always fed our dogs with taste of the wild(lamb or duck) and only when i started training her something new did i use some chicken or sausage.

    I have one cocker at the moment. She will be 13 years in a couple of months. My oldest one became nearly 14 years and she has been gone since August. They are lovely, in many ways similar but in personalities they are of course completely different (at least mine were). My black one did not like children at all, was cautious around strangers and at the same time very lovely and family oriented and loved to swim. She was also very wise, as someone wrote in their comments, she understood "everything". She used to follow me everywhere. My youngest one, an orange roan (still got her) has always been lovely towards everyone, always on her move (don´t like to swim), kind of happy-go-lucky! If she caught a good track in the forest, she was gone for a while. I have loved and still love them both dearly.

After she walked herself out daily she waited for someone to enter the elevator and because everyone knew her they all had to push 3rd floor for her to come home. Also she fed herself by stealing my food , so I never had to feed her...I am not bullshiting . Also she bathed herself in the sea for hours (she was crazy about water) ...or jumped in my bathtub when I was bathing...it was one thing she could not perform , wich was driving my car but she stayed behind me with her head alongside my head out of the window with her ears flipping out !!!

    My cocker ...when I was young the family got one , a day later he decided he was mine. Shared so much love and joy with that little friend , gone on adventures in fields and bush with him. Years later when my grandmother died the little fellow crawled on to the bed where I was feeling miserable, , put his head on my chest with a deep dog sigh and just let me bawl. Many years later, the same happened , he crawled on my bed, fell asleep with his head on my chest while I cried...cried because of the dog farts. God, why does nobody warn you about crazy spaniels and their killer gas!?
    He never forgave me for getting a girldfriend ( 22 years later still my wive ) who was allowed to share my bed , even though she has gas problems as well. Try explaining that to your best friend.
    Black was the month I had to put him to sleep. To paraphrase the poet; " if dogs don't go to heaven I want to go where they go when they die"

      Åke son We had an English cocker spaniel twice. We cut thr first one's tail then decided it was a bad idea. The dog died years later then we had another cocker. We didnt cut her tails off

    • @rebeccaotis8056
      @rebeccaotis8056 Před 5 lety +7

      hunting spaniels MUST have their tails docked for health and safety reasons. It is done at a very young age, when the pup is just days old. If it hurts, it is just for a minute and they don't remember it. Docking as a pup is far less painful than a working spaniel having to suffer from slow-to heal tail injuries, breaks, and possible amputation later in life.

    • @animalobsessed1
      @animalobsessed1 Před 5 lety +9

      The process of tail docking doesn't actually hurt. The real issue is the aftermath.
      Having no tail affects the dog's ability to balance while turning at high speeds, which leads to increased pressure on the joints. This in turn, leads to stiffer joints when the dog gets old.
      Additionally, the scar tissue that forms can also cause issues for the duration of the dog's life.
      Here's an article on the topic that goes into much more detail:

      Natalie Jcb their ears are very sensitive and one has to be aware of the dogs reaction when brushing. This woman doesn’t care at all. Totally lacking in gentleness and is utterly oblivious to the dogs clear discomfort. I wouldn’t let her come near my dog.
